The System 5 THX Select Certified represents a perfect combination of incredible sound, easy home installation and an affordable price. It’s no simple task to try and make a good system better, but we believe we’ve succeeded with the System 5 THX Select Certified . The speaker set combines a sub and five satellites to solve two of the biggest problems facing audiophiles: space requirements of multichannel systems and how to play both music and home cinema on the same system.

Why change the best?
The basic design of the speakers – that horizontal front speaker layout with D’Appollito configuration – is unchanged. All satellites received new drivers with a custom crossover points assigned, and the cover grille was redesigned for additional optimum frequency response.

The amazing rear dipole speakers are the same, as well, guaranteeing real cinema atmosphere in your rear sound area every time. All the speakers fill rooms up to 50 sqm with uplifting sound whether you’re watching your favourite film or listening to your best album.

A sub with extra
We’ve reduced the housing volume of the M 5500 SW subwoofer whilst simultaneously fulfilling the strict THX Select requirements – more sound for less space. Compacting the housing enabled us to install a 300 mm Neodyn woofer with an amp delivering 600 watts of peak power. The Class D amp runs cleanly, thus requiring less electricity for its power output. The DPU reflex system makes sure your bass is deep, powerful and clear of any distortion.

The System 5 THX Select Certified – great for most rooms
We recommend the System 5 THX Select Certified for rooms from 20-50 sqm – you’re guaranteed optimum sound. It's important you check the listening area to calculate the number of square metres you've got to plan for; adjacent areas, such as space around a dining table, are deducted. In especially high ceiling rooms (higher than 3.50 M), multiply in a 1.5 meter adjustment.

The System 5 is an excellent replacement for stereo standing speakers and for home cinema playback. Teufel's a master at the satellite/subwoofer combination; we've been designing them, and extremely successfully, since 1989. We guarantee a solidly developed satellite and subwoofer with amazing sound - especially when compared to much more expensive (and larger) systems.

The matching AV receiver
The System 5 can be successfully combined with a variety of AV receivers. You're able to find some recommendations of current receivers that meet all Teufel's requirements for a harmonious setup with your system.

Dipole Speaker M 550 D THX Select (right)

Die M 550 D zeichnen für die rückwärtigen Klangeffekte und Rauminformationen verantwortlich. Um ein möglichst diffuses, nicht ortbares Klangfeld erzeugen zu können, arbeiten sie im Dipolbetrieb: Jeweils ein 130 mm großer Tiefmitteltöner und zwei 25 mm-Kalotten strahlen gegeneinander verpolt den Schall nach vorne und nach hinten ab, was die direkt in Richtung Publikum abgegebenen Schallanteile auf ein Minimum reduziert; sie sind also als Schallquelle nicht direkt ortbar. Dadurch wähnt sich der Zuschauer in einer räumlich rundum völlig offenen Klangkulisse.

Eine patentierte THX®-Dipolschaltung sorgt zudem auch in den Effektkanälen für einen linearen Übertragungsbereich ab 80 Hz

Satellite Speaker M 550 FCR THX Select

Whether mounted on the wall, on a stand or in a shelf – this extremely powerful all-rounder is an enhancement for every home theatre system. The hi-tech driver provides a highly detailed listening experience and its enormous dynamic range ensures that every DVD soundtrack sounds like it does in the cinemas. Because they are absolutely identical the three front channel speakers never colour the sound, even when film scenes move from one side of the screen to the other.

By the way - this separately available universal direct-radiating System 5 speaker is a perfect complement for an existing surround sound system as a centre channel when upgrading or rear centre channel, as required by 6.1 configurations.

Please note that the speaker grilles should be used to ensure optimal sound quality. Without the grilles, the frequency response changes and the sound will become slightly harsher and more brittle.

Subwoofer M 5500 SW THX Select

The System 5 subwoofer is able to fulfil the very demanding THX Select requirements with a smaller cabinet volume than its predecessor. As a result, the M 5500 SW THX Select requires much less space without impairing the sound quality or level!

The compact cabinet contains a 300 mm woofer with a neodymium magnet driven by a new class D amplifier rated at 600 W peak power and 350 W RMS power. Teufel’s own DPU reflex system ensures that bass frequencies remain powerful yet free of distortion. The subwoofer is ideally suited for rooms of up to 50 m2 in area.

The bass was abundant and was better spacially than as with many other subwoofers, which feel obliged to focus on optics rather than being friendly to the needs of living space and budget-circumspect material design. Here is where this set really put itself on the map in favour of pure film performance. But what would the set sound like in stereo when only the two main loudspeakers and the subwoofer are active? Darn good. Not just oldies like "Devil Gate Drive" from Suzi Quatro (Emi) that made their name with strong drums are honored. Amazon works as accurately and colorfully as Mick Jagger on this system. His "Sympathy for the Devil" (Polydor) could be as if expressly designed for the Teufel loudspeakers. Natural sound colors and the absence of outside aggressiveness really brought this concert to life.
