The digital versions of our Concept E series are meant to be used as fully integrated solutions, meeting all your needs all in one package. This allows you to assemble a small home cinema as well as a deluxe multimedia centre. In the following, we will explain in detail how to use the system.
Set-up
Connect the five satellites with speaker wire to the subwoofer. Connect the decoder with the six included RCA-cables to the “Front - Left/Right”, “Rear - Left/Right”, “Center” and “Sub” inputs of the subwoofer – ready.
Eight inputs
Decoderstation 5 has four digital and 4 analogue inputs enabling the optimal connection of a multitude of devices: PC, Mac, notebook, DVD recorder/player, game consoles such as Xbox , PlayStation or Wii, MP3 player, iPod, DVB-T and satellite receivers, video recorder, TV, CD player, MiniDisk player, DJ mixer, media drive and much, much more.
Connect to the computer
Surround sound cards typically have several analogue mini-jack (3,5mm) outputs. By using three Y-adapters, such as AC 5015 AP, these can be directly connected to Decoderstation 5.
If available you can also connect the digital output of your soundcard - depending on the digital format of the soundcard either optical or coaxial - to the corresponding input of Decoderstation 5.
Some notebooks and soundcards route their digital output through the regular mini-jack output which is activated by the Pc software control components and requires a specific cable.
This applies to desktops as well as notebooks.
Connect to DVD player/recorder
You can connect any current model to Decoderstation 5 in the set of the Concept E Digital series. The DVD player /recorder connects directly and does not need its own decoder: depending on the digital format of the device connection is established via optical or coaxial input and results in pure 5.1 surround sound.
Connect to game console
Now you can enjoy unadulterated 5.1-channel sound out of your Xbox or PlayStation – provided you own a model with digital outputs. Connect the digital output of the console with the corresponding optical or coaxial, input of the Decoderstation 5. From now on you will hear the enemy sneak up from behind...
Connect to DVB-T and satellite receiver
If your receiver has digital outputs, you can reproduce flawless Dolby Digital sound: digital out to digital in – ready! Even when you TV receiver does not have digital outs, you can nevertheless connect it to one of the three analogue inputs of Decoderstation 5 through both Audio Out L/R outputs. The Dolby ProLogic matrix of the Teufel decoder allows you to listen to impressive surround sound: much better than stereo, miles above mono...
Connect to TV, video recorder, MP3 player, Discman, Walkman, CD, DJ mixer, etc...
Decoderstation 5 proves its universal versatility here as well. Connect any 3 of the above mentioned devices through their respective Audio out L/R outputs to our external connector box and select between them as you please. The Dolby ProLogic matrix of the Decoderstation enhances stereo signals and generates remarkable surround sound on all five speakers and the subwoofer. But even “plain” stereo will sound muscular and dynamic with a Teufel subwoofer.
Easy to use
Manage every function and setting comfortably with the included remote control. Operate Decoderstation 5 directly through dial and display on the front panel of the device. A 32 character display informs about the current status.
Cable
You will need 6 RCA cables to connect the Decoderstation 5 to the subwoofer. The six cables, plus a speaker cable for the satellites, are already included in the set. The cable required to connecting the source to the decoder usually comes with the device. Otherwise you will probably find what you need in our web shop.

Room size
A Concept E Digital system is designed to play most effectively when it is set up near your PC workstation – at a relatively short distance between listener and satellites. But our integrated system can serve just as well as a home theatre sound system for the entire room, provided that the listening area does not exceed a certain size.
Setup as PC system
It makes sense when setting up a PC sound system to focus on the immediate area around the work space for most effective playback. This is the area centred on listener and display.
Since the centre speaker reproduces the actor’s dialogue this speaker should be positioned directly above, below or next to the monitor. You might want to tilt the speaker up or down towards the listening position.
Place the front speakers at equal distances to the left and right of the monitor, either on the desk or mounted against the wall. Installation at ear height or on the included table stand is optimal but heights between 0, 80 m and 1, 60 m are definitely within the tolerances. If you place the speakers at heights outside these values you should tilt them slightly towards the listening position.
Place the rear speakers at the rear of the listening position facing the front speakers – ideally at the same height. The control software of your soundcard will let you compensate for less than optimal positioning resulting in different distances and heights.
Setup as home theatre system
If you want to use this set for a home cinema sound system, we recommend that you concentrate on the part of the room where the TV and sofa or seats are located. It helps to place the monitor in as central of a location as possible, opposite the listening position.
As the centre speaker is responsible for reproducing the actor’s dialogue, it should be in the middle, directly below or above the TV monitor. If necessary, tilt towards the listener.
Place the front speakers as you would in conventional stereo speaker set-ups (distance to listener = distance between left and right speaker) in equal distance to both sides of the TV floor, standing or mounted on the wall. For this, we recommend the corresponding speaker stands and wall mount brackets. Using speaker stands ensures optimal playback of the satellites. Wall mounts enable the speakers to be horizontally or vertically tilted towards the listener.
When placing them on a shelf or hanging them against the wall, the speakers’ height should be between 80 cm and 1.60 m. If you have to place the front speakers higher or lower than this, tilt them slightly towards the listening position. Main speakers and centre should be placed along a straight line or on a slight arc bend towards the TV monitor.
Choose the location of the subwoofer freely as it will not interfere with the other speakers. A good place is somewhere along a straight line between the two front speakers...
The position of the rear speakers should mirror the front speakers – preferably at the same height. If this is not possible, adjust them by tilting them upwards or downwards. The distance between rear speaker and listening position should be at least 1 m. If you be sitting closer than this to the speakers, make sure the front of the speakers are not facing you directly but pointed slightly away from you toward the rest of the room. The speaker management options provided in the menu of Decoderstation 5 allow you to compensate for less than optimal speaker placement.
Wall mount / Speaker stands
The system comes with table stands; wall mounts and speaker stands are optional. The matching wall mount can be tilted horizontally or vertically. Speaker stands ensure the perfect listening height.
