Amazing sound
The secret behind the fascinating sound quality of Motiv 3 is an exceptional full range driver - 80 mm in diameter -, which finds its use in the spheres. One high-end speaker reproduces the entire frequency range between 120 Hz and 20 000 Hz. We achieve this by using a feather light NAWI cellulose membrane, distortion reduced neodymium magnet and a fibre dust-cup, which cleverly doubles as a dome tweeter.
Advantage full range driver
Because of its coherent acoustic radiation MO 3 FCR stands out with a distinctively spatial sound and stupendous reproduction of vocals. Only a one-way speaker system can work without having to separate high and mid level frequencies, exactly where the human ear differentiates most acutely. In addition a precisely adjusted suppression filter smoothing the frequency response ensures the optimal acoustical properties of the driver.
Powerful bass
Despite its compact size Motiv 3’s subwoofer A 300 SW delivers an intense performance. A 200 mm long–stroke, low-loss suspended subwoofer driven by an uncompromising 150-watt amplifier is the reason: the result – impulsive, crisp and clean bass reproduction.
Connecting to home theatre receivers
Motiv 3 was designed for operation with home theatre receivers. You simply connect the satellites with speaker cable to the corresponding front R/L, rear R/L and centre terminals of your receiver. You connect the subwoofer with a mono cinch RCA cable between the sub-output of your receiver and the input of the subwoofer.
You can find a list of recommendations for home theatre receivers matching Motiv 3 on our website. When deciding what to buy what you can also consider models succeeding the ones listed as well as previous models and technically comparable models by other manufactures.
Recommended room size
Motiv 3 is designed to be the perfect comprehensive sound system for your living room. It will perform well in areas up to 20 m². If, because of your family or neighbour for instance, you cannot listen at high volume constantly, the room can measure up to 25 m². We guarantee this Teufel set will satisfy you with powerful and ample sound.
Positioning the speakers
We recommend focusing on that part of your room where TV/display and seating are placed. When facing the display from where you sit it should be in a central position.
Centre
The speaker sphere used for the centre area is meant to reproduce dialogue in movies. Because of this you should place it centrally underneath or above of the monitor. The included magnetic speaker stands allow for direct placement on shelf, sideboard or audio furniture. You can also use the included assembly bracket to install the speakers directly on the wall.
Front speakers
The spheres used for the front positions are placed just like traditional stereo speakers (distance to listener = distance between left and right speaker) at equal distance from the monitor. Our optional speaker stands and wall mount brackets are well suited for this purpose. Using speaker stands will guarantee the optimal listening height of the satellite. Wall mount brackets allow horizontal and vertical adjustment towards the listener.
When hung against a wall or set on a shelf the speaker should be placed in a height between 40 cm and 1,20 m. If the position is above or below this range the speakers should be slightly tilted towards the listener. Placing the front and centre speakers on a more or less straight line or along a semi-circle centred on the monitor is essential.
Subwoofer
You have great latitude when deciding on the position of the subwoofer, as it does not influence the other speakers. Ideal placement is on a straight line between left and right front speaker. Usually you should obtain good results using a placement ratio of 1:3 to 2:3 – also refer to illustration.
Rear speakers
Rear speakers should be placed behind the listening position in symmetrical formation with the front speakers: ideally you would want to place them somewhat higher. Minimum distance between rear speakers and listening position is 1,00 m. If you have to sit closer, take care that the front of the speaker is not facing you directly but slightly away from you into the room. Less than optimal positioning of the speakers in terms of distance and height you can compensate in the settings for speaker set-up of your home theatre receiver.
Cable
Because our customers have different requirements when installing their systems we did not include cable. For connecting the subwoofer we recommend our optional Teufel NF-Mono.
When considering speaker wiring you might find it convenient to order Teufel 2 x 2,5mm speaker cable. These come in pre-configured units of 10 to 50 metres. The massive gold-plated binding-posts on the back of the satellites will safely hold the cable.
Wall mounts and stands
You can screw the spheres directly to the wall by using the included assembly brackets. If you need to tilt the spheres vertically or horizontally you can use our optional wall mounts. Installation on stands is possible with optional stands.
