Suited for living rooms up to 30 sqmWe recommend the Motiv 6 for living rooms up to 30 sqm in size. Please note: It's important you check the listening area to calculate the number of square metres you've got to plan for; adjacent areas, such as space around a dining table, are deducted. In especially high ceiling rooms (higher than 3.50 M), multiply in a 1.5 meter adjustment.
The Motiv 6 combined with an AV receiverThe Motiv 6 requires an AV Receiver as a partially active system. It has a 300 watt amplifier which feeds the subwoofer. The combination thus needs an AV Receiver for the combination of radio and multichannel amplifier when in operation.
The subwoofer is fed via a mono RCA cable to the sub-out jack of the AV Receiver, and the five satellites are connected to the AV Receiver via the outputs on the AV receiver. Connect all additional source devices directly to their corresponding output on the AV receiver.
Concerning the AV receiver: the Motiv 6 is not picky when it comes to determining which AV receiver you use, and produces an excellent sound from almost any device. On our homepage you'll find some AV receiver recommendations, as well as technically usable predecessors and other manufacturer
model recommendations >Stereo substituteThe Motiv 6 is suitable for music playback just as well as for home cinema play. Teufel's a master at the satellite/subwoofer combination; we've been designing them, and extremely successfully, since 1989. We guarantee a solidly developed satellite and subwoofer with amazing sound - especially when compared to much more expensive (and larger) systems.

HiFi in home cinema? >Appropriate accessoriesWe recommend using our optional speaker cables with a 2.5 qmm diameter for optimum sound quality. To connect the subwoofer, Teufel's Mono RCA cable is the best option for trouble-free bass playback. We recommend a Y adapter as well: using both inputs simultaneously, you can raise your volume yet another notch.
You can find and order these recommended accessories for your system in our Accessories section. You don't need to additionally order wall mountings for the centre and satellites - they're included in your order.
Please note: Due to the narrow design, banana plugs aren't able to be used with this set.
General setup of the Motiv 6 These notes will help you setup the perfect multichannel playback in your home. However, you've not always the space, your partner's patience, or the area to allow such optimum placement. Try to meet the above requirements as best you can. Modern AV receivers are electronically able to compensate for any lack in the lineup. When stumped: let your ears and eyes decide.
There are still some site criteria to realise the best sound possible in your home cinema area. It's always best to focus on the real "listening area" - so where your TV and your sitting area is located. Centrally position the screen and then place the speakers around it to ensure optimum sound. Questions? Email our service and we'd be happy to help you set up.
Setup of the Centre The centre speaker occupies a very important position as it's responsible for playback of actor's dialogue. Therefore, these speakers should be as central as possible to your main listening area, and should be positioned so that the language and picture function as a unit.
Setup of the front speakersThe front speakers should be at an equal distance to the left and right of the TV or placed on the wall. Another optimal positioning of the standing speakers is as close as possible to the wall.
The height for wall or shelf placement should be between 40 centimeters and 1.20 metres. It's important that the centre and main speaker are in a circular arc curved slightly to your TV. Otherwise, homogeneity might suffer.
Setup of the subwooferThe subwoofer location is optional (crossover frequency of 150 Hz) and an ideal setup would be in a straight line between the two front satellite speakers. However, any placement within the room is fine as long as a space of a minimum of half a metre is observed between the wall and the subwoofer.
Setup of the rear speakersYou have three different positioning options with the rear speakers of the Motiv 6 when setting up as a 5.1 configuration:
1. Placed to the left and right of the listener. The front (with Teufel logo) sends sound in the listener's direction. The speakers would be placed ideally 20 degrees behind the listener.
2. Placed to the left and right of the listening area. The front (with Teufel logo) sends sound towards the TV/screen. The speakers would ideally be placed 20 degrees behind the listening area.
3. Placed to the left and right behind the listener - ideally mirrored to the front speakers, but at a height of 1.20-2.10 metres. The front (with Teufel logo) sends sound towards the TV.
We recommend that the placement of the rear speakers in relation to the listening area is over one metre. If you must sit nearer, make sure that the front of the speaker doesn't point directly at you, but into the room. If necessary, adjust to fit.
A 5.1 system always fitsThe Motiv 6 system is sent as a standard 5.1 configuration straight from the factory. It's possible to use as a 6.1 or 7.1 system as well...the inputs for the rear centre speakers are simply not used in the 5.1 configuration.
Expanding to a 6.1 systemIf you wish to own a 6.1 system, simply purchase an additional Motiv 6 centre speaker when ordering.
Setup of the rear centres (6.1 configuration)The ideal placement of a 6.1 system assumes that the rear side speakers are set up to the sides or placed directly next to the listener. The rear centre should be placed on the rear wall at a height of .80 to 2.10 metres; ideally at equal distances to the rear speakers and at the same height. If this isn't exactly possible, you can make any adjustments to the speakers through the AV Receiver (>> speaker setup <<).
Expanding to a 7.1 systemIf you wish to have a 7.1 system, we recommend purchasing an additional two Motiv 6 front speakers.
Setup of the rear speakers (7.1 configuration)The ideal placement of a 7.1 system assumes that the rear side speakers are set up to the sides or placed directly next tot he listener. The rear centre should be placed on the rear wall at a height of .80 to 2.10 metres; ideally at equal distances to the rear speakers and at the same height.
Please note for 7.1 setup: if you were to draw a line between the speakers of a 7.1 setup, the ideal form would be a trapezoid. Each line within the trapezoid should have a length of over one metre. If the lengths in between the speakers differ, you're most certainly able to tell this from the end sound result. If they do, work on the speaker management with your AV receiver/amplifier (>> speaker setup <<).
