Suitable for living rooms of 15-35 sqm Rooms of this size will be well compensated in sound with the System 4. It's important you check the listening area to calculate the number of square metres you've got to plan for; adjacent areas, such as space around a dining table, are deducted. In especially high ceiling rooms (higher than 3.50 M), multiply in a 1.5 meter adjustment.
An excellent replacement for HiFi speakers The System 4 is an excellent replacement for stereo standing speakers and for home cinema playback.
Teufel's a master at the satellite/subwoofer combination; we've been designing them, and extremely successfully, since 1989. We guarantee a solidly developed satellite and subwoofer with amazing sound - especially when compared to much more expensive (and larger) systems.
Dipole advantages Dipoles emit sound not only from the front, but phased to the front and the rear.
Dipoles not only direct the sound to the front but to the rear as well. This means that if you sit between the dipoles, you're bypassing all that front/rear listening room reflection. This simulates the sound coming from a cinema, where the surround sound is played by several speakers to keep you immersed.
The advantage of dipoles is that the entire back range is filled with sound, which guarantees an extremely atmospheric sound and a very satisfying film experience - right from your couch.
Expand your 5.1 set into a 7.1 The System 4 can be ordered in an already-configured 5.1 set, but you can expand to a 7.1 set quickly and easily by choosing either the "5.1 > 7.1 expansion set direct" or "5.1 > 7.1 expansion set dipole".
The advantage of a 7.1 configuration The 5.1 set plays all audio from DVDs and offers an excellent home cinema experience. With the new 7.1 sound format you also have a so called rear centre, which is generated from a rear channel center. This channel enables a better detection of sound effects and music playback from directly behind the seated position. If you have a 7.1 set the optimal seated position is a little more open; you mustn't sit so precisely centered inside your listening area.
If your AV receiver/amplifier has appropriate connectivity, you're easily able to upgrade to a 7.1 combination.
Setting up the System 4 Due to its compact dimensions and harmonious design, it's quite simple to integrate the System 4 into your living room. There are still some site criteria to realise the best sound possible in your home cinema area. It's always best to focus on the real "listening area" - so where your TV and your sitting room area is located. Centrally position the screen and then place the speakers around it to ensure optimum sound.
Setting up the centre and front speakers The centre speaker occupies a very important position as it's responsible for playback of actor's dialogue. Therefore, these speakers should be as central as possible to your main listening area, and should be positioned so that the language and picture function as a unit.
The front speakers should be at an equal distance to the left and right of the TV, or placed on the wall.
The MO 450 FCR can be fixed to the wall thanks to the integrated wall mounts M6 plug screw.
The height for wall or shelf placement should be considered between 40 centimeters and 1.20 metres. It's important that the centre and main speaker are in a circular arc curved slightly to your TV. Otherwise, homogeneity might suffer. Please note that the M 450 FCR satellites are intended for landscape setup.
Setup of the subwoofer The subwoofer location is optional (crossover frequency of 80 Hz) and doesn't affect the other speakers. An ideal setup would be in a straight line between the two front satellite speakers.
Setup of the dipoles The dipoles are best placed to the sides of the listening area at a height of from 1.50 metres to 2.10 metres. The speakers are delivered with the required wall mounting materials. The dipoles can then emit from both the front and rear so that no direct sound is heard but rather the reflections from the wall. There should be at least a 10 cm distance space to the back wall of the room.
You are also able to install the dipoles behind your position from the same height referenced above. We recommend to rotate them, mirror-image to the front speakers and then set them diagonally at a 45 degree angle to the side panel. This enables the dipoles to reflect to the side wall, and produces the desired sound.
In theory, you could position the dipoles on stands, but we currently offer no base which has the recommended height of 1.50 metres. Stability is only guaranteed at that height if the base is very large. Perhaps a carpenter you know might be able to make a device stand suitable to your needs. Otherwise, use the surround sound speakers for assistance, most likely the same as the System 4's front speakers, the M 450 FCR.
Setup of the rear speakers in Concert version 5.1 When using the concert set with monopole speakers, the rear speakers are mirror images to the front speakers - ideally at the same height (for example on a shelf, or a stand). If the speakers need to be placed higher or lower, consider using the wall mounting for an optimum sound. To do this, we recommend that the rear speaker not be closer to the listening area than 1.00 metres. If you must sit closer, make sure that the speaker is not directly facing you but more the TV.
Setup of the rear speakers in the 7.1 configuration If the distance of the listening area to the rear centre speaker pair is less than a metre (because you sit directly on the sofa in front of the rear panel) we recommend using the M 450 D dipoles. The ideal placement of a 7.1 system assumes the rear effect speaker are at the side wall next to the listener, and the rear centre speakers on the back wall at a height of 1.50-2.10 metres.
Please note for 7.1 setup: if you were to draw a line between the speakers of a 7.1 setup, the ideal form would be a trapezoid. Each line within the trapezoid should have a length of over one metre. If the lengths in between the speakers differ, you're most certainly able to tell this from the end sound result. If they do, work on the speaker management with your AV receiver/amplifier.
Setup of the rear speakers in the 7.1 configuration (monopole) The setup distance for the rear centre speakers should amount to more than one metre as well as a height of 1.50 to 2.10 metres. You can optionally choose the M 400 FCR and they will setup as the same height as the front speakers. When setting up the 7.1 set make sure to keep as equal a distance between the individual speakers as possible.
Setup: Theory & practice These notes will help you setup the perfect multichannel playback in your home. However, you've not always the space, your partner's patience, or the area to allow such optimum placement. Try to meet the above requirements as best you can. Modern AV receivers are electronically able to compensate for any lack in the lineup. When stumped: let your ears and eyes decide.
The matching AV receiver The Motiv 10 can be successfully combined with a variety of AV receivers. You're able to find some recommendations of current receivers that meet all Teufel's requirements for a harmonious setup with your system.
Device recommendations > The right cable Due to the differing customer requirements, the System 4 is delivered without cable. We recommend the 2 x 4 qmm connection cables to connect the satellite speakers with the AV receiver, Teufel NF Mono RCA cable to connect the input from the active M 4500 SW subwoofer with the sub out into the AV receiver/amplifier and at last, a Teufel Y adapter: this makes stereo usage on the RCA input on the subwoofer possible, which again increases the bass level.
You can, of course, order these cable lengths quickly and easily in our accessories section.
