"The Motiv 2 was not decreased but upgraded: the new Concept C 200 has "USB" and docks to your PC or Mac. There it must work as the soundcard or be installed, which wasn't a problem in practice tests.

A nice side effect: the Concept works as an amplifier, Skype and gamers can dock headphones and microphones and the secure cable remote control is used for convenience; function, volume and bass control is visualised with blue LEDs.

The high-end built with a 20 driver decorated reflex-woofer rounds out the amazing image of this set. This could also easily be heard during the listening test: the Concept sounded like a real HiFi, dynamic when in film and PC gamer play, musical with pop and rock, and outstandingly mature even with sophisticated classical music.

The bass quality sang for "Justice Grooves" (Bass Fire, ZOUNDS) even in the high end region with a fully sprung yet still musical, clean bass that many speakers will have to fight even more than the price tag."

"Desktop speakers are ten a penny, but this set comes with USB connectivity.

The build quality of the speakers is solid, especially the subwoofer. It's huge and very heavy - you wouldn't want to accidentally stub your toe on it. It features a total power output of 200 watts, which is more than enough to fill a room 20 m² in size with powerful noise. With a high bass setting you can feel the floor and furniture rumble around you - try playing an action-packed game and it's likely your neighbours will believe war has broken out in your living room!

The two satellite speakers are light, which means they're unlikely to pull themselves off a wall and they're easy to position. They have a two-way system that splits the mid tones via an 80mm cone, and the high frequencies via a 19mm dome, to produce rich and clear audio. Certainly some of the best we've heard from desktop speakers of this class. Set the volume to high and there's no distortion. We tried all kinds of music, from opera to hip hop through to our very own podcast, and the speakers felt at ease playing whatever we threw at them. [...]

The table remote control is of particularly high quality. When switched on, the dials and logo light up in a pleasing blue colour. Not too bright to distract you from the computer screen, but enough to let you know it's switched on. Its also heavy and has a rubber coating along the bottom, which means you won't accidentally knock it off your desk. On the top you'll find a power button and two dials that have a healthy click to them when turned - as a result you can easily adjust the volume and bass to your particular liking. You'll also find a headphone and a mic socket."

"Anyone who uses their PC as a music player is selling themselves short without a decent set of speakers, and the optimum setup is a 2.1 system, with two satellite speakers and one subwoofer, which makes the Concept C 200s a perfect bet.

They follow the Teufel lead of using huge subwoofers and tiny speakers, which look disproportionate, but don't sound that way. There's an even mix between bass and higher frequencies, as long as you're not tempted to crank the bass right up - and there's no need with this size sub. The sound is warm and satisfying and bass is fantastic, as you'd expect.

What sets the Teufel apart is that it's designed with PC users in mind. There's a built-in sound card, which enables you to connect via USB, as well as an audio jack, which improves clarity and volume, and there's no software needed. Teufel also includes a desktop volume, bass and power remote control for easy adjustment."

"In the case of the Teufel Concept C 200 USB, we have a pair of small 2-way speakers finished in gloss black lacquer, with detachable stands to raise them from the desk.

A relatively enormous sub-woofer is provided to reproduce the low notes. All the Teufel Concept C 200 USB electronics are housed in the sub box, namely three channels of amplification and a USB digital-to-analogue converter (DAC). With this USB DAC, you need only plug the bass unit into a Mac or Windows PC USB port to enable digital audio to be piped directly into the system, avoiding the computer's own analogue audio outputs.

Some may gasp at the size of the Teufel Concept C 200 USB subwoofer unit, nearly half a metre high and with a 10in bass driver, although the use of a reflex-loaded (that is, ported) bass speaker in a large volume box does typically allow a system to 'breathe' more easily.

We found the Teufel Concept C 200 USB to sound quite flowing, with less of the usual gap in the upper bass/lower midrange frequencies that many sub/sat systems suffer.

Conclusion:
This system is capable of playing quite loud with a conspicuously fullsome bass-rich tone, although this can be tamed somewhat by turning down the sub level from the default setting."

"Above all, the Teufel Concept C 200 USB shows that it's worthwhile to give the changing of the guard a little time to build a successful box lineup.

This stereo set offering from Teufel has numerous minor improvements - such as a better appearance, a subwoofer practically suited for everyday usage, a very functional cable remote control and, additionally, a very powerful amplifier with active crossover. The sound is also up to par, of course.

The Concept C 200 USB spoils with a round, weighty sound and a smooth pressure setting that never becomes too irritating, even at high volumes, thus: The Excellent Hardware Award."
