Dolby Pro Logic II

The LT 2 is the perfect surround solution for customers who don’t want to compromise: A sleek look and way above average sound quality for home cinema applications and music playback. With LT 2 you can have it all – in different configurations, whatever you want!

The 5.1 set with its exceptionally chic design and elaborate hairline finish seems to effortlessly achieve the delicate balance between narrow shape and hi-fidelity sound. Combining both is a fine art that, for reasons of pure physics, requires expertise which, of course, Teufel can provide.
Narrow columns
Slender column speakers obviously require the smallest possible speaker cones because of their narrow shape. The columns are then easier to overload when producing lower mid tones than chassis with larger diameters. That is less noticeable in home cinema ranges than with demanding music recordings.

Optimal for music
Teufel has designed the shape of the LT 2 satellites so that 10 cm mid tones can still be used. The result: mid-tone reproduction that is clearly expanded downward without the dreaded frequency gap between subwoofer and satellite that makes music playback seem slightly undercooled. Therefore the LT 2 represents an excellent solution specifically for customers that want high-quality music reproduction. And even if you only plan to use the system as a home cinema: you will also be impressed with the “rounded” harmonious sound of the set.

Versatile placement
The pleasant side effect of using the large, mid-tone chassis is that the subwoofer can be cut off by the AV receiver from as little as 110 Hz. It is therefore no longer locatable, which allows a lot more freedom for placement in the room.
Overall harmony guaranteed
The quality of the centre speaker, which is so important for 5.1 reproduction, has naturally been taken into account in the development of the L 220 C. The same chassis is used here as for the L 220 FR column speakers so that harmonious overall sound is always guaranteed. The table base supplied allows secure and effective form of placement.
Fits neatly into any living space
Under the name L 220 FCR, the same speaker can be supplied as a model for upright positioning so that “short” speakers can be used for the rear instead of the columns. With a combination of reduced depth and integrated wall brackets, the speakers fit into your living environment without dominating it, which was the case with conventionally designed, angular speakers.

Highly functional remote
The slender appearance marks out the Subwoofer L 2200 SW thanks to its Downfire bass reflex construction that can reproduce bass sound in rooms of up to 35m2, with its 25 cm bass speaker chassis in combination with the powerful 300 watt power amplifier. The communication options between the supplied remote control and the integrated front display allow comfortable control of the bass tones from your sofa, when you need to quickly compensate for any differences in the bass proportion of individual DVDs/CDs.

Plenty of input sources
As an alternative to the L 2200 SW, the LT 2 can also contain a subwoofer in the LT 2 + R version, which already has a high-quality surround receiver in its housing. This makes it possible to connect digital and analogue signal sources such as DVD players/recorders, TV, sat receivers, PC, MP3 players, games consoles or video recorders – without the need for any extra appliances.
Decoder and radio included
An AM/FM radio is included along with Dolby Digital/dts decoder, Dolby Prologic switch with extensive setting options. The integrated six-channel amplifier guarantees a maximum total power of 500 watts.
Multiple configurations
The LT 2 is available from Teufel in four configurations: Set 1 with a centre and four column speakers, set 3 with a centre, two “short” and two “long” column speakers. Both with integrated digital receiver, as mentioned above. All versions of the LT 2 have one thing in common: the best sound with the “most slender” look. ?

Subwoofer US 4110/6 SW

Column Speaker L 220 FR (pc.)
Column Speaker L 220 FR (pc.)
Thanks to its slim shape (1.13m high and just 13.5cm wide) tapering off at the back, this speaker takes up considerably less space than conventional massive wooden speakers.

Good looks don’t come at the expense of acoustic limitations – quite the opposite in this case. The L 220 FR is a flawless hi-fi speaker, perfect for enjoying your favourite music.

The solid aluminium case is not only attractive on the outside but also creates optimal acoustic conditions by being extremely rigid. Two 100mm cone chassis adapted to this environment are responsible for the reproduction of low and medium frequencies, and the 25mm metal dome takes care of all the higher tones.

A glass plate with steel spikes creates sturdiness and gives the sound column a slightly floating appearance.

The speaker is not available separately outside of the LT 2.

Centre Speaker L 220 C
Like nearly all Teufel systems, the L 220 C centre speaker scores points by having the same speaker chassis and casing design as the columns of the set. Experience has shown: this is the only way to guarantee acoustically identical reproduction of all front channels.

Thanks to its slender landscape format, the approx. 43cm wide L 220 C can be easily placed on or below your TV. A matching table base is included as standard. Integrated wall brackets at the rear allow the centre to be attached to a wall – separate brackets are not required! With its minor depth of just 10 centimetres, the centre takes up extremely little room.

Help regarding this product
Do I also have a 6.1/7.1 playback for a 5.1 recording?
Usually, all 6.1/7.1 AV Receivers can generate a 6.1/7.1 playback from a 5.1 recording. The procedure is comparable with the Dolby Pro Logic Decoder, which generates a matrix circuit from the stereo signal of a centre channel.

The AV Receivers thus generate a rear centre channel from the rear R/L channels of a 5.1 recording through the matrix circuit. The stronger the rear R/L effects on the DVD, the stronger the signal from the rear centre.
Can I connect the LT 4 directly to a DVD player or PC?

The LT 4 is a partially active system that requires AV receiver operation. It has a built-in amplifier that only supplies bass tones in the subwoofer housing That is why an "AV Receiver", i.e. a combination of radio receiver and multichannel amplifier, is essential for using the LT 4.

The subwoofer is connected from the Line In R input to the AV receiver's sub out jack using a mono RCA cable, while the three front satellites are connected to the three speaker outputs of the AV Receiver using the speaker cable and are supplied with power from there.

Connect signal-emitting source appliances such as DVD player or PC etc. directly to the corresponding input jacks on the AV Receiver.
When would it be worth upgrading my 5.1 system to 6.1/7.1 sound?
Naturally 5.1 channel systems that play back all of the sound tracks contained on the DVDs already offer an excellent home cinema experience.

For the new 6.1 or 7.1 sound formats, a rear centre channel is controlled in addition to these channels. This channel, coded in the stereo effect channels, enables the better positioning of effects and music signals directly behind where you are sitting.

If using two speakers for the rear centre channel, the optimal seating position is not tailored to an individually specified position, i.e. you don't have to be seated in the exact centre.

In the following cases we would recommend upgrading to a 6.1 or 7.1 system:

• Your sitting position is not always dead centre, or you often have several viewers

• You have had a 5.1 system for a very long time and would like an improvement

• Your AV amplifier/receiver is designed as a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver and offers the corresponding connection possibilities

• You can also set up one and/or two rear centres. If you are currently building/renovating your house or flat, we would recommend you lay the cables for the additional rear centre channels in any case.

• Modern BluRay players usually issue a true 7.1 surround sound signal at all digital outputs and are thus optimally suitable - presuming the relevant AV Receiver - as a signal transmitter for a 7.1 channel home cinema system.
How do I upgrade my system to a 6.1 or 7.1 sound format?
The choice of speaker(s) depends on the AV Receiver/amplifier. This has an additional power amplifier for one rear centre (6.1) or its two (7.1). You can easily see this by the wattage (e.g. 6 x 100 watt or 7 x 100 watt). To the existing (side) rear speakers for right/left (5.1 technology), one or two additional rear centres are utilised in addition (6.1 or 7.1 technology).

• My AV amplifier/receiver has six connections/power amplifiers (6.1):

In this case we recommend connecting the same centre at the rear that you also used in the front area.

• My AV amplifier/receiver has 7 connections/power amplifiers (7.1):

If you already use dipoles or direct emitters for your 5.1 system, then you have a choice of either supplementing two more dipoles or two direct emitters. For wall assembly and a short distance from the seating location to the rear wall (less than 1.00 metres), we would recommend dipoles. As soon as you want to set up the speakers on bases or on a shelf, then direct emitters would be the better choice.

Even if the AV Receiver/amplifier only has the connection and power amplifier performance for one rear centre, it is still possible to connect two instead of just one speaker through series connection.

• The AV amplifier/receiver has seven connections/power amplifiers, but I can only set up one rear centre. As the 7.1 AV amplifiers/receiver also offer the option of operating just one of the two outputs (usually can be set in the speaker set-up!), you can also only connect just one rear centre.

Here we recommend connecting the same centre to the rear that you also used in the front area. For short distances to the listening location (less than 1.00 metres), a dipole would be the better choice - especially if you are also using dipoles at the sides.
Is it a problem if the speakers are at different distances to where you are sitting?
Since the distance and volume of every individual speaker can be adjusted for the digital home cinema receivers, asymmetrical set-ups can be easily compensated.
How do I equalise my home cinema system with the help of a sound level meter?
Take the level meter with you to the listening position and point the measuring device directly towards the front centre speaker. Now start the sound generator of the receiver (or of the sound card or DVD player) and equalise all speakers in succession to the same level.

The position and alignment of the measuring device should not be changed during this procedure. For a Teufel sound level meter, proceed as detailed in the following:

1. Remove the protective tab from the battery.

2. Set the weighting to "A" - only the "A" position considers the full frequency range during measuring!

3. Set the response to Slow.

4. Set the Range to 70.

5. Start the test noise from your AV device.

6. Change the volume for every individual channel at the AV device so that the level meter shows 75 dB (meaning between +4 and +6).

7. Done!
What is the difference between the 5.1 and 7.1 configuration?
Compared with the 5.1 set, the 7.1 set has two extra speakers for the back rear centre channel.

The 5.1 channel set plays back all sound tracks on DVDs/Blu-rays and creates an excellent home cinema experience.

With the 7.1 sound format, a rear centre channel is also generated in addition to these channels and distributed to two further speakers (the "rear centre"). This channel, which is encoded in the stereo effects channels, allows better location of effects and music signals directly behind the sitting position.

If you use two speakers for the rear centre channel (i.e. installed 7.1 set), the optimum sitting position is not restricted to one specific place, so you don't have to be sitting exactly in the middle and several listeners can enjoy the best sound.
Where is the optimal place for the centre of my Lautsprecher Teufel Surround System in a 5.1/6.1/7.1 configuration?
Because the centre plays back spoken dialogue, this speaker must be positioned as centrally as possible under or over the TV/monitor or the screen.

If the centre is placed outside the area of 40 centimetres to 1.20 meter height, it should be slightly inclined or angled towards the listener.

Which cables do I need to connect a Teufel speaker set to the AV Receiver?
A home cinema system needs speaker cables to connect the satellite speakers to the receivers, and an NF mono RCA cable to connect the active subwoofer to the sub out socket of the AV Receiver.
When can I use the rear speakers as direct speakers?
If you aren't able to position the speakers close to the wall as described above, you should use the them as direct speakers. For this purpose the rear switch should be tipped outwards. For use as direct speakers, the rear boxes should be set up to the left and right of the listening position - ideally at the same height, e.g. on a shelf or preferably on a base. If the speakers have to be set up so that they are much higher or lower, it may be advisable to align them to the listening point. For wall mounting it is best to use wall brackets that allow for vertical movement. When using the speakers in direct speaker mode, we recommend that the distance between the two rear speakers exceeds the listening position by 1m. But if you (have to) sit closer, please make sure that the front of the speaker is not pointing directly at you; instead, angle the speakers more into the room.
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
My subwoofer is humming. What can I do?
This hum can be caused by the connected devices or disruptions in your electricity current. Please do a test to see which it is.

1. Remove the RCA cable from the input on the subwoofer. If the hum is no longer heard, go to point B. Otherwise, follow point A.

A. Attach the net cable of the subwoofer to another electricity outlet (i.e. Kitchen/Bathroom/Bedroom). If the subwoofer still hums, get in contact with our Support team.

Should the hum no longer be there, the disruption was a problem in your power supply, which can, for instance, be caused by dimmers or chargers. To find out where the disruption is, unplug all your devices and work back from there. As soon as the hum is heard, you now know your source of the disruption.

B. In your case, the "ground hum" is responsible for the disruption. Please proceed as follows to discover your source.

  • Disconnect the cable or satellite port from the TV Receiver and check if the hum disappears or not. If it does, you can use a sheath current filter for the cable outlet to prevent this. For example, the sheath current filter AC 9022 ED. If you have a satellite connection, connect the Satellite Receiver to the optical cable playback source - Teufel Optical Digital Cable

  • If this reason can be excluded, separate all devices from the AV Receiver one at a time until the hum stops. The last connected device is then your hum source and should be separated from the others using a galvanic separation filter (found in a retail shop)

  • If this doesn't work, get in contact with us once again so that we can give an individual, helpful response.

How do I connect my fully active Teufel system to a multi-channel sound card?
If your sound card is set up for 5.1 operation, you will usually find three 3.5 mm mini jack outputs. Connect the card using three Y adapter cables in the 3.5 mm mini jacks to 2 x cinch formats to the inputs for the front R/L, rear R/L, centre and subwoofer at the rear of the fully active Teufel set.

The colours of the outputs and the types of signals transferred at each output differ from sound card to sound card. Please refer to the sound card manual. The Teufel system then reproduces the surround signal decoded by the sound card.

The five satellites are connected directly to the speaker clamps on the subwoofer, using the speaker cable supplied. Strip and split the ends of the speaker cable to do so. Speakers and amplifiers have corresponding [+] and [−] clamps. The [+] cable of the speaker cable is marked with a stripe. It is important to observe the correct polarity when connecting the speakers: the plus pole of the speaker connects to the plus pole of the amplifier and the minus pole of the speaker to the minus pole of the amplifier.
The subwoofer switches itself off after a long period at high volume (the satellites keep playing).
It is possible that you have operated the system outside of its performance boundaries.

The system is an extremely good-value, fully active system that performs very well for its class. It has been designed for home cinema use in smaller rooms and for PC use. It should be taken into consideration, especially in fully active operation with sound cards and DVD players, that a PC speaker system cannot fill an entire room with sound, only the area where the user is sitting. This system has not been designed for and is not suitable for long-term use at very high volumes.

If the system is operated when the volume is too high, the safety cut-off in the power pack may be activated. This cut-off switch is required for safety reasons and prevents the power pack, the power amplifiers and the speakers from sustaining damage. If this cut-off switch is activated, it means that the system has reached its performance boundaries.

Our problem-solving tips:

• Position the system speakers closer to where you are sitting. Then much less power will be needed for loud sound reproduction.

• Use an AV Receiver that will supply the satellites with power. This takes the pressure off the power pack and the power amplifiers of the system.

However, a fault cannot be ruled out if the system switches off at low volumes in rooms of 20 m² or smaller.

We are unable to authorise additional active cooling of the power amplifier. It no longer corresponds to the specifications for the operation of our products. Failures caused by additional active cooling can clearly be attributed to negligent action by the user. As operation with active cooling has a direct effect on the function of the product, it voids all warranty claims.
One satellite speaker generates no sound or distorted sound, but the other one works fine. Why?
In order to more precisely identify the problem, please try swapping the channel positions of the two satellite speakers. It should be possible to find out if the problem is a defective satellite speaker, or if it has to do with the electronics of the amplifier. If the satellite speaker functions after the swap, then the electronics of the amplifier may be defective. If not, the satellite speaker is likely broken.
There is no sound coming from either the speakers or the subwoofer
Please check that the operating lights of your Teufel device are on. If not, please change the fuse: it could be that the mains fuse on the subwoofer may have blown due to overvoltage in the mains. The fuse box is located underneath the plug. Use a small screwdriver to lever it out, replace the two jammed fuses and insert the fuse holder back into the fuse box. Now the subwoofer should be ready for use again.
Basic function test.
You can check the function of the subwoofer and the satellites by only connecting the (stereo) signal from an external source that is guaranteed to be good quality, such as a music CD played on a (portable) CD player, using a RCA cable (and possibly a Y adapter) with the front input L/R on the subwoofer.

The other four inputs on the subwoofer do not need to be occupied (= RCA cable disconnected). With this connection plug arrangement of front In L/R, the Concept E Magnum Power Edition amplifier activates all satellites and the subwoofer through internal distribution. If the subwoofer and all five satellites now play correctly via a directly connected CD player, the Concept E Magnum Power Edition was not receiving the correct signal before. Either the cinch cable is defective (try exchanging it) or the output of your source appliance is not producing the correct signal.

If you continue to experience unwanted noise/individual malfunctions, there is possibly a defect in the Teufel system.
How do I connect the five satellites to the Motiv 5?
The five satellites are connected directly to the speaker clamps on the subwoofer, using a normal speaker cable. We recommend using the speaker cable from the MO 500 W accessories package. Separate the ends of the speaker cable and remove the insulation.

Speakers and amplifiers have corresponding [+] and [−] clamps. The [+] cable of the speaker cable is marked with a stripe. It is important that the polarity of the speakers is identical when they are connected: the positive pole of the speaker connects to the positive pole of the amplifier and the negative pole of the speaker to the negative pole of the amplifier. Connecting the cables with the incorrect phases can result in thin sound, weak bass and reduced stereo characteristics. For multichannel surround systems, it is also important that all speakers are connected with the correct polarity in order to ensure the right three-dimensional atmosphere and the correct alignment of the sound.
How do I connect my fully active Teufel system to a notebook?
You can use our fully active sets to create perfect PC sound, not only on a desktop computer but also with a notebook.

If your notebook only has a single 3.5 mm stereo jack output, connect it using a 3.5 mm mini jack cinch Y adapter cable to the front input "In R/L" on the subwoofer.
Thanks to the integrated "Upmix" switch in the Concept E 2/ E Magnum / Motiv 5 / Concept F, the 4 satellite speakers play back a stereo signal and the centre speaker and the subwoofer each play back a mono signal. This admittedly does not sound as perfect as Dolby Digital, but does sound better than pure stereo playback.

You will still have the chance later on to operate your speaker using a convertible external 5.1-capable sound card, in order to experience the full pleasure of Dolby Digital and DTS.

Different companies, such as Creative, Terratec, Toshiba, ESI/Audiotrak and M-Audio, offer solutions for connection to the PCMCIA port or via USB or FireWire.
My subwoofer that's connected to the Decoderstation 5 has no bass signal. What should I do?
Turn on the Decoderstation 5. Go tot he main menu by pressing the dial knob once that's located at the front of the device. Choose "Speaker size" off the menu. Set the speaker size to "SSS+Sub". For more information, see page 18 in the user manual.
Connecting your digital computer - how do we do that?
Connect the digital output of your sound card using an optical or coaxial cable (depending on the digital format of your card) tot he respective optical or coaxial input on your Decoderstation 5.

Some notebooks and sound cards have routed your digital output to the customary mini-cinch output. Software installed on your PC has been configured to switch the signal. If this is the case, you will need a special cable.

The digital connection guarantees interference-free 5.1 surround-sound playback. These instructions apply to notebooks as well as desktop computers.
Connecting Sat receiver/Premiere decoder/DVB-T receiver - how do I do that?
Let the receiver produce crystal-clear digital sound using its digital outputs. Digital Out to Digital In. Done!

If your TV receiver does not have a digital output, you can still connect both analogue outputs (Audio Out L/R) with one of the three analogue stereo input pairs on the Decoderstation 5.

Thanks to the Teufel decoder's Dolby ProLogic matrix, you can still enjoy real impressive surround-sound. Better than stereo, and far better than mono!

Are all delay settings the same for all Dolby Digital/dts playback modes?
The configuration settings for an optimal playback quality apply to all following modes except for Dolby ProLogic II Movie (see pages 14-18 of the handbook).

Why do the distances for the surround-sound channels have to be separately set for the Dolby ProLogic II Movie mode?

For this mode, Dolby requires a minimum delay time of 10 milliseconds for the surround-sound channels. This is equivalent to a minimum distance of 3.3 metres. Consequently, only values higher than this threshold can be set. For this reason, the surround-sound delay configurations for this mode are made separately, so that the correct distance (without minimum delay time) can be set for the other decoding modes.
Connecting your gaming console - how do I do that?
Now you can generate an authentic 5.1 sound from your Xbox or PlayStation, as long as your model has digital outputs. Use a digital cable to connect the console's digital out to the Decoderstation 5's in, using the appropriate optical or coaxial cable.

From now on, you will even be able to hear the enemy fighter approaching you from behind!
Do surround signals have to be decoded before they reach the decoderstation 3?
No. As already indicated in the product description, the decoderstation has integrated decoders for common surround sound systems, e.g. Dolby Digital / dts and can supply a fully active home cinema audio system with surround signals without any additional components.
