Highlights

In developing the System 8 THX Ultra 2, Teufel has attained two extremely ambitious aims, namely to outperform the legendary acoustics of the Theater 8 speaker set and to slash the casing dimensions. In fact, to achieve the impossible. In actual fact...

Better, smaller, neater
After years of laboratory trials, countless prototyping cycles, endless measuring and extensive licensing procedures, it is finished: the System 8 THX Ultra 2 - worthy successor to the Theater 8 Ultra 2. Only better, smaller and neater!

Subwoofer sensation
The most striking advance is the improvement of the subwoofer. Despite a two-thirds reduction (!) in the size of its casing, the System 8 bass speaker is the only subwoofer in the world to meet the exacting THX Ultra 2 standards with just one high-performance bass driver. The S 8000 SW is impressive proof of the supreme expertise of Teufel, having been in the business of building customised bass speakers for over 20 years.

The bass
A lengthy development process resulted in the extra-long stroke woofer with magnetic shielding which is primarily responsible for the incredible performance of the S 8000 SW (THX requirement!). The low distortion factor and extreme efficiency mean that a sine wave output of 500 watts can generate the same levels free of distortion (e.g. 114 dB at 40 Hz) where much higher amplifier outputs used to be required.

Flat diaphragm
Optimised for wall mounting, the S 800 FCR front speakers boast a modern flat diaphragm chassis in the bass and mid-range. The advantages of this include reduced distortion, minimised diffraction effects and ultra-low mid-range and treble fade, all combined with the minimal interference of the virtually reflection-free grid. It may be 40% smaller than its predecessor but it boasts improved sound quality - thanks to state-of-the-art chassis technologies, computer-aided Klippel optimisation techniques, and intensive tuning work by our engineers.

Dipole speakers
The three-way speakers have a 130 mm wall-mounted woofer which takes care of the fundamentals, while a 100 mm mid-range driver and a 25 mm dome on each side achieve front and rear dipole sound transmission. The sound transmitted in the direction of the listener diminishes automatically; only the sound reflected off the walls is heard. As a result, the audience has the acoustic perspective of a completely open soundscape.

THX Ultra 2 - no sacrifice on the home furnishing front
In unveiling its System 8 THX Ultra 2, Teufel reveals the first set of speakers with full high-end credentials which doesn’t dominate your living room but blends harmoniously into its surroundings. Top-spec home cinema can be elegant – with the System 8 THX Ultra 2.

THX Ultra 2 for your room
With the System 8 THX Ultra 2 Teufel presents the absolute high end in THX Ultra 2 sound - a set that doesn't dominate but provides absolute dream sound. Elegant form with top home cinema atmosphere - the System 8 THX ULtra 2.

Active Subwoofer S 8000 SW THX Ultra 2 (2010)
We gave the THX engineers a bit of a shock with the S 8000 SW: they'd never seen another manufacturer meet their stringent THX Ultra 2 standards using a single 300 mm chassis and an enclosure this small (80 litres). Teufel pulled it off: a level of 114 dB at 40 Hz with a linearity of +- 1 dB.

This subwoofer is an absolute triumph of Teufel's engineering expertise, painstakingly gathered over twenty years of building specialised deep bass woofers.

The unbelievable performance of the S 8000 SW can be attributed to a bass driver developed over many steps and featuring an extremely long throw with THX Ultra 2-required magnetic screening.

A very low level of harmonic distortion and extreme efficiency contribute to high levels being rendered distortion-free at 500 watts of RMS output. In the past, a significantly higher level of amplification would have been required. And there's a side effect: you'll save on your electricity bill.

The Teufel-developed DPU reflex system with bass reflex openings on the back virtually eliminates interference even at high volumes. A remote control makes adjusting the subwoofer to match any sized space easy – the system can handle up to 100 square metres.

These front loudspeakers for System 8 THX Ultra 2 are completely redeveloped and a bit of an enigma: they're both smaller and better.

Even though they're 40% more compact than their predecessor, our engineers squeezed an even higher degree of sound quality out of them thanks to modern chassis technology, computer-supported Klippel optimization and extensive tuning.

The S 800 FCR THX Ultra 2 front loudspeakers employ modern flat-diaphragm chassis in the bass- and mid-tone ranges. During high tones a 25 mm fabric-dome tweeter comes into play. The tweeter can be turned up to the extremely high volume required by THX Ultra 2 and nevertheless deliver very detailed sound...
These three-way loudspeakers are optimized to be set up near a wall, but can also be placed freely within a space. A removable dust cover is shipped with the speakers to protect their valuable drivers.

The cover can be mounted and dismounted without the use of screws because screws could negatively influence sound quality. And that's not how we do things...

The S 800 D THX Ultra 2 dipole speakers astound through their high capacity and small dimensions, which make them perfectly suitable for integration into any living space. We're not aware of any smaller dipole with THX Ultra 2 certification.

The 130 mm bass driver of these three-way speakers is situated on the wall-facing side of the speaker enclosures. It renders a sound foundation which makes it possible to identify even low-frequency effect signals in the background. The speakers' mid- and high-range drivers project forward and backwards, and their 25 mm domes are reverse-polarised to deliver diffuse, ambient sound. Sound projected directly at the listener is minimised in favour of ambient sound which is reflected off of walls and creates an effect of open spatiality. This omni-directional projection contributes to captivating and believable sound quality which could never be rivalled by conventional speakers.

To avoid diffraction, both sides are covered by enclosures conceived of as cowls without any screws, bushings or grommets in them. An integrated wall-mount enables the dipoles to be attached to a wall, which is necessary for their stunning effect to fully unfold. They can also be mounted against a rear wall at an angle using the optional AC 6500 SM/L wall-mount and lock.

Expert Reviews 02/2011
“German speaker manufacturer Teufel is, in its own way, playing its part in making THX Ultra more affordable. By selling direct (and probably cutting out around a 30 per cent retail margin) it sells sets of THX speakers at prices that until recently you would only find on avforums or ebay. We may be committing home cinema heresy here but we think this direct approach is way overdue… We would far prefer to pocket the saving and have a better set of speakers in a cinema room. On top of this, Teufel offers a full returns service within 8 weeks of invoicing (note, not delivery)… the System 8s are neither small nor cheap but they put THX Ultra 2 within touching distance of the well-heeled enthusiast with a 50m³ or larger listening space.”

Heimkino 03/2010
"Teufel delivered a true masterpiece with the Theater 8, which now enjoys a cult status. It's hard to imagine this performance could be topped, but Teufel's engineers have done just that with System 8. This THX-certified home cinema system outdoes its legendary predecessor in a number of ways. Not only is it more fascinating, harmonious and agile, but it can also be incredibly fun through either its corporeal or more subtle qualities. At the same time its new compactness makes it suitable for integration in a range of living spaces. Anyone seriously thinking about setting up a home cinema or even building a larger installation in a basement or attic shouldn't miss out on a chance to listen to this system."

"An acoustic top performance like this in combination with living room compatibility and an attractive price is worthy of our most coveted rating.”
Area DVD 01/2011
"With comparatively compact living room friendly components, the System 8 creates a surround sound environment without equal. A multi-faceted wealth of detail in all frequency ranges and a clear transparency in the sound image with a well-defined, dense atmosphere and finely delineated structure in the deeper frequencies produce a home cinema experience without compromise. The subwoofer warrants special notice as the relatively compact 80 liter enclosure bombards the room with a monstrous bass deluge, extremely good depth, and astonishing fine dynamics that only larger devices are usually able to achieve. The higher frequencies seamlessly contribute to the overall effect, characterized by dynamism in the vocals with a broadly differentiated gradation and a clearly differentiated high end that remains very pleasant even at high levels. An acoustic top performance like this in combination with living room compatibility and an attractive price is worthy of our most coveted rating.”

"[...][A]fter setting up and pairing the system with Bluetooth you can get started right away. The first strains from the Cinebar 11 were forceful but free from distortion. The loudspeaker played well at even higher volumes. I tested the Cinebar 11 with rockier sounds as well as with more laid back club music. I’m personally completely won over by this Teufel product. The tuning lets every musical genre find its voice. A large room can be filled with sound at even mid-level volumes – without loss of sound quality.”

Conclusion:
"Those who value elegant, unusual design and good workmanship are well served with the Cinebar 11 from Teufel. Every critic will be won over by the tonal quality and devilishly good sound. Whether within one’s own four walls, for a party or for home cinema: The soundbar does the job.”

"The Teufel is truly easy to control. The remote offers a dedicated button for all important functions as well as source selections so that one need not search in any menus for very long.”

"The system can digest stereo, Dolby Digital and DTS signals. The surround mode ensures a good 3-dimensional sound image and transports the viewer into the events of the movie. When it comes to the sound, the compact soundbar can deliver a big performance. The mid and treble ranges play very cleanly and dynamically even at raised levels. In this way, not only movie soundtracks but also music in stereo is a true pleasure with the Cinebar.”

"All the while, the performance in the bass range is impressive. The subwoofer does its job well. It doesn’t just push out the bass deeply and loudly but also with precision into the living room.”

All standard connections for hooking the system up to a television are included: Optical, HDMI, and stereo inputs.”

"Aside from stero sound, the Teufel device also masters surround sound simulation. […] The loudspeakers have a very balanced and clean sound – far better than television audio. The forward radiating dispersion also enhances speach intelligibility. The maximum volume is considerable. The soundbar is also well suited for larger rooms and for listening to music. This it can receive via Buetooth - from smartphones, for example.“

audiovision 04/2014
The inexpensive sound-improver

This soundbar scores points [...] with an attractive look: A perforated metal grille [...] protects from damage; Thanks to a matte black surface, finger prints and reflections from the screen are prevented. It becomes apparent how little space the soundbar takes up when it is set [...] upon a surface. Wall-mount brackets and recesses for connections allow it to be hung on a wall. The controls benefit from a light coloured display that can be switched off if needed.

During the listening test, the Teufel surprised us – unusual for such a small transducer [...]. The bass reflex sub plays [...] cleanly and with a lot of pressure. The 30 Hertz bass delivered effortless playback which lent the overall sound a fullness and maturity. The soundbar reproduced the mids and the highs transparenty and without colouration. The device is characterized by a broad dispersion from top to bottom, while the mids become increasingly softer as one moves to either side of the centerless soundbar. The optional surround mode can expand the stereo panorama [...]

AV Conclusion:
For a low price, Teufel delivers big sound that takes up relatively little space with the Cinebar 11. Since both the feature set and workmanship were top, we’re categorizing it as a price recommendation.

"In terms of sound quality, the Cinebar impressed us the most out of all the test devices."
SFT 01/2014
"The soundbar from audio specialists Teufel is a mere six and a half centimetres tall. Even the subwoofer seems relatively slender. The manufacturer makes special reference to the fact that the bass drivers can be placed upright or on their side [...].  The wireless bass unit is encased in a high-end wooden enclosure; a hard synthetic was used for the soundbar along with metal grilles to protect the loudspeakers. Alone the small, light remote doesn’t seem to belong to the elegant ensemble.

Along  with a HDMI socket with audio feedback channel, Teufel – like its competitor Panasonic  - provides an additional HDMI input for a Blu-ray player or game console. Optical and coaxial connection options are also available. As an additional feature, there’s a Bluetooth interface as well as virtual surround. As we have come to expect from Teufel, no audio cables are included with delivery, but it did come with a practical wall mount. In terms of sound quality, the Cinebar impressed us the most out of all the test devices.

In spite of a relatively small size, the subwoofer delivered the most powerful and dynamic bass performance of all. A room filling stereo image with crystal clear highs and a all-around balanced character completes the excellent listening impression. You can, by the way, do without the surround effects here as well.”

System 8 THX Ultra 2 "Cinema 7.1" (2010) review of Area DVD
"Chic, fully loaded, and powerful - the Cinebar 11 plays into the hearts of consumers.”
Area DVD 16.12.2013
"The feature range includes many things that were sorely missed on Teufel soundbars: HDMI wiring, Bluetooth, and NFC are all included along with Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. The Cinebar 11 even has a virtual surround sound program.

The connection possibilities are comprised of an HDMI input, an HDMI output, an optical digital input, a 3.5 mm analogue stereo jack input and, as a wireless option, Bluetooth with NFC. The Cinebar 11 has a very pleasant appearance. Teufel opted out of the high-gloss look in favour of a matte synthetic. The front drivers are positioned behind precisely fitted metal grilles and enhanced with a chrome ring – a nice detail that immediately increases the perceived value of the workmanship.

The active subwoofer is wirelessly connected  [...] 90 watts is given as the subwoofer channel’s maximum power capacity. The continuous power capacity is 60 watts. The bass driver can produce frequencies from 42 t0 200 Hz and operates according to a bass reflex principle.”

"Acoustically, it’s, of course, not so easy to pull the maximum from a very compact enclosure. We’re therefore eager to see whether Teufel managed to achieve a rich, lively sound. We listened to the Blu-ray disc “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” starting with the second chapter. The gigantic hangar door opens with a powerful drone. The active subwoofer does a very good job here and ensures a respectable volume.

Ideally, the room should measure about 12 by 20 square metres. The Cinebar 11 unfurls an astonishingly rich and intense sound in this room size, and higher levels are no problem. The musical score was well integrated; the collaboration between the subwoofer and the soundbar is perfectly executed. The sound seems full, but is at the same time precise and dynamic.

When the movie really heats up  [...], the Cinebar 11 comes into its own: The punches and gun shots are penetrating, the vehicle sounds and crashes are not only impressive, they reach the listener with clearly differentiated  levels. Due to the broad horizontal dispersion angle, it’s no problem to include a number of listeners in the enjoyment of the Cinebar 11’s sound quality.

The virtual surround sound function is a success. It creates a large addition of realistic dimensionality, without damping the tone or making it sound tinny. Spatial widths as well as depth are considerably – and successfully – enhanced.

The Bluetooth connection is easily established even when NFC is not used. One simply presses the “BT Pairing” button on the remote and the Cinebar 11 is ready to connect. If a smartphone is Bluetooth enabled, it takes less than 30 seconds for the connection to be established.

Conclusion
"Late bloomer: Teufel’s first flat soundbar comes onto the market just in time for the Christmas season. Good workmanship, a reasonable price, and equipped with all the modern, in-demand features, the Cinebar 11 set is doubtlessly a good deal. The sound evinces clarity, powerful bass, and dimensionality.

Like a ‘Berlin hip flask’: Chic, fully loaded, and powerful - the Cinebar 11 plays into the hearts of consumers.”

Help regarding this product
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
Do I need the same cable length for all speakers?
In our experience, there is no acoustical difference for different cable lengths for lengths up to 15 metres.
The RAMPA insert at the bottom of the speaker sometimes is turned out with the tamping screw. What can I do about that?
Unscrew the tamping screw from the Rampa insert and screw the Rampa insert back into the bottom of the speaker.
