The Ultima 40 Mk2 are classic tower speakers for outstanding playback at an unbeatable price.
The previous version of the Ultima 40 was the most- purchased standing speaker in Germany*, and we expect its successor to expand on this success story.
With drivers optimised by the Klippel Analyser System, you're guaranteed pure, linear sound reproduction -- even at high volumes. A trumpet bass reflex vent delivers deep, clear bass that is never muddy. Improvements to the wood finish eliminate cabinet resonances at high volumes, and the overall design was made even sleeker.
With the Ultima 40 floor-standing speakers, you get a piece of Berlin in your home and enjoy a wide range of music, from electro to opera to rock. It's not for nothing that the Ultima 40 are Germany's bestselling stand-alone loudspeakers.
The Ultima 40 Mk2 is perfect for rooms up to 35 m²: The stereo towers have no problem filling medium-sized rooms with powerful sound. Abover all, those looking for rich, punchy bass without an additional subwoofer will appreciate the Ultima 40, a true Teufel in every respect.
Low frequencies are handled by two parallel 165 mm fibreglass/cellulose drivers. Thanks to a cabinet volume of 52 litres and double reflex vent, the Ultima 40 Mk2 produces fantastic bass down to 45 Hz. A large mid-range driver (165 mm) ensures great speech intelligibility, and the two 25 mm tweeters handle the top ranges brilliantly.
When it comes to sound, Teufel leaves nothing to chance. The tiniest imperfections in the Ultima 40's driver action were identified per laser technology and corrected. The result is amazing true-to-source sound with all genres of music.
Solid wooden cabinets with softly rounded corners contain advanced audio technology, the product of Teufel's over 30 years' experience in loudspeaker construction. Rock, jazz or electronic: Whatever you play on these speakers is rendered with incredible transparency and livliness.
Display the Ultima 40 Mk2 with or without grilles. The attractive drivers are one of the stereo towers' main highlights.
Over one meter tall, each tower features a 3-way speaker system. Above two 165 mm bass woofers is a 165 mm Kevlar/fiberglass midrange driver in a separate resonating chamber. This premium driver covers the range from 650 Hz to 26000 Hz. A phase plug enhances the system's thermal load capacity and prevents phase shifts from muting any of the playback. A 25 mm tweeter completes the offering with a brilliant but never-shrill treble.

Conclusion
"The Ultimas won’t be winning any beauty prizes, but the mighty and powerful sound with rich bass and silky highs will really put you in a good mood and even the price won’t ruin it: € 450 is a bargain.”

"During the listening test it was clear that the Teufel Ultima 40 was already surprisingly good value and offered amazing sound but now the Ultima 40 Mk2 surpasses its forerunner on all counts. The slightly higher price is fully justified '

Just about the smallest but acoustically most improved detail in the new Ultima 40 Mk2 is the completely new tweeter. The 25 mm fabric dome tweeter is able to markedly expand the Ultima’s dynamic range as well as reduce distortion in the upper range to an absolute minimum. In addition, the use of a horn waveguide endows the premium tweeter on the new Ultima with a much better omnidirectional sound distribution.”
Conclusion
"[T]he Ultima 40 Mk2 is in every respect much more mature, precise, sensitive and dynamic, making it even more fun.”

"With the Ultima 40 Mk2, rooms up to 35 square metres can be easily filled with sound. Our editorial team’s test showed that even bigger spaces wouldn’t be a problem. The Ultima 40 Mk2 won’t run out of steam even in rooms that are substantially larger than 35 square metres - the sound remains exceptionally voluminous. The speakers have a 57 litre volume and both bass drivers go down to 40 Hz.”
"The speakers are able to handle club music without a problem with a tight bass and snappy transient response. The lower highs and upper mids are characterized by a clean sound in the stereo image and the midrange is able to keep up even at high volumes. The Ultima 40 Mk2 generally has a grown up sound – much more mature than its predecessor.”
"For home use, the Ultima 40 Mk2 flawlessly covers all areas at a price of just € 449.99 per pair. Whether in a discreet listening environment or at a party, it won’t break a sweat and will reward you with thoroughly balanced sound.”
"The drivers with membranes made from fibreglass, kevlar, and fabric were subtly improved, and the crossover was completely redone.“
"More important than the new reference values is the acoustic experience, and this completely won us over. Greatly improved tuning has even made the Ultima suitable for classical music. Any concerns that the character of the first generation has been lost are unfounded. The impulsive electro pop track ‘My Dog Eats Beats’ shines so impressively forth from the Mk2 that fans of this genre won’t be able to wipe the smile off their faces. [...] The Teufel speakers even cut a good figure with the emotional Neil Diamond ballad 'I’m a Believer.‘ Inexpensive loudspeakers seldomly evince such versatility.”

Conclusion
"Regarding the previous model, I already said, ‘It doesn’t get much better for the price.‘ [...] I will improve upon my own words, because the Ultima 40 Mk2 has become in every respect much more mature, precise, sensitive, and dynamic so that it’s simply much more fun. To upgrade this classic speaker costs just 50 Euros more than the previous model and the same applies without restriction: Buy!”

The midrange drivers reproduce voices like soul legend Glady Knight with their full suppleness and power. The Ultime 40 Mk2 even manages to breathe life into even thin voices like that of Nelly Furtado. Respect!
The tweeters really shine in the upper ranges. The dome tweeter is a pleasure with a silky and detailed sound that is never intrusive or arch. In this way, it enriches music playback with a subtle and yet refreshing balance that allows the listener to completey forget that he or she is "only" listening to an inexpensive loudspeaker.”
Conclusion
"With the Ultima 40 Mk2, Teufel offers an all-around successfully designed loudspeaker. Sound quality, construction, and design are - considering the price - a minor sensation. Entrance to the world of high-end hifi has seldom been so affordable. Here at AV Magazine, that’s worthy of a ‘Highlight’ distinction.”

The subwoofer plays a far more important role for a home cinema than a pure stereo system. Not only are the base pulses of a DVD soundtrack much more intense and dynamic, but the bass sound effects even have their own so-called LFE channel ("Low Frequency Effects").
Our recommendations:

up to a room size of 150 m² > click here
The listed room size and thus the choice of subwoofer must be differentiated according to the following criteria:
• Own experience with bass playback (have I already had a subwoofer or very strong bass speakers?)
• Own preference (do I like intensive bass or listen to intensive bass music?)
• How large is the room to be filled with sound? Only the area between the couch and the TV/the projection plays an essential role here. Adjacent areas, such as the dining room or a hallway are not decisive.
• How sensitive are my neighbours? What's the use of the correct subwoofer for my room size if I can never use the subwoofer in its full performance because of my neighbours?
