Image and sound
The Impaq 500 delivered well-defined and high-contrast images with natural colours. Using the various menu options, the display parameters can be adjusted to meet individual preferences and environmental conditions. The fantastic image quality is matched by the outstanding sound attributes. Extremely clean and dynamic, paired with deep sub-bass, the sound of this system was very convincing during the listening test.

Summary
Once again, we extend our congratulations to the Berlin based loudspeaker makers for coming up with a completely successful product at a price that is nothing but fair!

"New standards from Berlin - Benchmark!"
Area DVD 09/2008

New standards from Berlin: It would be difficult to find another all-in-one 2.1 DVD receiver system in the under € 1.000,- price category offering audio-visual performance as outstanding as the Teufel Impaq 500.

"A sensation!"
i-fidelity.net 09/2009

Teufel offers a complete 2.1 home theatre set with the Impaq 500 that is fantastic with the performance – and the price too! For this reason the Impaq 500 receives our rare i-fidelity.net award, the "Price Tipp." These loudspeakers are far above average in terms of quality, and there's nothing to sneeze at in the media centre, either.

The equipment is fantastic with enormous scope: UBS, HDMI, Upscaler, DSP-sound programmes and Dolby Virtual all there. And the bottom line is the performance; playing DVDs with powerful sound and excellent picture quality and really bringing it to life. This 2.1 system is almost less in neutrality and precision as fun. Almost.

For under € 1.000,- the Teufel Impaq 500 is a total sensation.

• Sound quality: excellent
• Picture quality: good
• Equipment: fantastic
• Worksmanship: good

Total results: excellent

Homogenous design
"With the Impaq 500 the company Teufel from Berlin is not only offering a sleek DVD system but also a high-quality solution for providing flat-screen TVs with impressive sound.
Teufel has long since recognised the sign of the times and has in recent years developed from a pure loudspeaker manufacturer into a provider of smart system solutions. The newest offshoot from this is the Impaq 500, a compact DVD music system consisting of a receiver, two narrow loudspeaker columns and a subwoofer. Ideal for joining together with a flat-screen television."

HDMI INCLUDED
"The pair of satellite speakers come in a high-quality metal housing and finish, which means that they nestle nicely alongside almost all modern flat-screen TV sets. Two eight-centimetre woofers per column reproduce the bass and mid-range tones, a titanium dome tweeter is responsible for the higher frequencies. The interaction between the subwoofer and the satellite speakers is achieved seamlessly and harmoniously; ideally the subwoofer should be positioned on the same level as the two satellites. In pure stereo operation the system sounds gentle, providing artists such as Marx, Rothschild and Tillermann ("Nightingales & Butterflies"/ZYX) with a very broad spectrum of timbres and an attractive elasticity in the vocal range.
In the virtual surround sound setting the sound gains freshness and vitality. The Teufel system adroitly reproduces Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations (Piotr Anderszwski/Virgin) and even enables the acoustic benefits of dts (with this recording) via the ability to practically switch between Dolby Digital and dts at the push of a button. The speaker trio is equally nimble when dealing with action-packed film sequences, building on a solid bass foundation and preserving a sense of detail even in complex passages."

Conclusion
"With the Impaq 500 Teufel presents a clever DVD system with a powerful sound at a fair price. Ideal as a compact music system and absolutely perfect to enable modern flat-screen TVs to reach new acoustic heights either in stereo or virtual surround sound."

"You can hear Teufel audio expertise oozing from the speakers."
trustedreviews.com 10/2008

"On to performance and the first thing we noticed after loading up Gladiator is how effortlessly powerful the system is. At just over half its maximum setting, it delivers a seriously meaty movie experience that easily fills a reasonably-sized room, giving you a bit of leeway should you wish to crank it up further and really wake the neighbours.

The sound quality is breathtaking throughout, best summed up by the movie's opening battle between the Romans and the Germanic hordes. Excellent treble reproduction makes arrows fizz loudly as they fly through the air, clanking weapons sound realistic and resonant but not tinny or bright, and Russell Crowe's barked orders to cut though the melee with ease. The system also blasts out punchy, muscular bass that lends a solid foundation to the frenetic action, plus the perfectly judged crossovers make the bottom end fuse seamlessly with the midrange.

Naturally our next port of call was the coliseum, and the Impaq 500 handles the fierce combat scenes with the sort of authority and drive that makes for a thrilling listen. But also remarkable is its ability to tease out subtleties in the soundtrack and reproduce them with almost surgical precision."

"The system is terrific with music, offering a crisp, punchy presentation of Dave Grusin's Mountain Dance CD. It keeps pace with the varying jazz-funk rhythms and makes the dancing piano notes sound warm and colourful – you can hear the Teufel audio expertise oozing from the speakers."

Verdict
"[...] the system's saving grace is its phenomenal sound quality, which is effortlessly powerful and wonderfully detailed."

"[...] the build quality and styling is also a cut above many 2.1 systems, making this a very promising start from a company that we hope to hear a lot more from in the future."

Help regarding this product
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
When can I use the rear speakers as direct speakers?
If you aren't able to position the speakers close to the wall as described above, you should use the them as direct speakers. For this purpose the rear switch should be tipped outwards. For use as direct speakers, the rear boxes should be set up to the left and right of the listening position - ideally at the same height, e.g. on a shelf or preferably on a base. If the speakers have to be set up so that they are much higher or lower, it may be advisable to align them to the listening point. For wall mounting it is best to use wall brackets that allow for vertical movement. When using the speakers in direct speaker mode, we recommend that the distance between the two rear speakers exceeds the listening position by 1m. But if you (have to) sit closer, please make sure that the front of the speaker is not pointing directly at you; instead, angle the speakers more into the room.
My subwoofer is humming. What can I do?
This hum can be caused by the connected devices or disruptions in your electricity current. Please do a test to see which it is.

1. Remove the RCA cable from the input on the subwoofer. If the hum is no longer heard, go to point B. Otherwise, follow point A.

A. Attach the net cable of the subwoofer to another electricity outlet (i.e. Kitchen/Bathroom/Bedroom). If the subwoofer still hums, get in contact with our Support team.

Should the hum no longer be there, the disruption was a problem in your power supply, which can, for instance, be caused by dimmers or chargers. To find out where the disruption is, unplug all your devices and work back from there. As soon as the hum is heard, you now know your source of the disruption.

B. In your case, the "ground hum" is responsible for the disruption. Please proceed as follows to discover your source.

  • Disconnect the cable or satellite port from the TV Receiver and check if the hum disappears or not. If it does, you can use a sheath current filter for the cable outlet to prevent this. For example, the sheath current filter AC 9022 ED. If you have a satellite connection, connect the Satellite Receiver to the optical cable playback source - Teufel Optical Digital Cable

  • If this reason can be excluded, separate all devices from the AV Receiver one at a time until the hum stops. The last connected device is then your hum source and should be separated from the others using a galvanic separation filter (found in a retail shop)

  • If this doesn't work, get in contact with us once again so that we can give an individual, helpful response.
The satellites "hiss"
In principle the Concept F is a very low-noise system. In the high range area, very high-resolution quality speaker systems can 'expose' the defective quality of a signal source (e.g. from MP3 files or analogue cassette recordings) that is hardly noticeable on lower quality speakers.
You can check the basic noise level by connecting a signal, via a cinch cable, from an external source that is guaranteed to be good quality – such as a music CD e.g. on a portable CD player – to the Aux L/R input on the subwoofer. If all of the satellites are now playing noise-free, it is because they weren't receiving the right signal before. Either the cinch cable is defective (try swapping them around) or the output of your source appliance is not producing an adequate signal.

However, if you continue to hear increased noise on this channel there is possibly a fault in the Concept F. Please check which satellites are affected by changing the satellites around and to find out whether the satellite or the subwoofer electronics are producing excessive noise. If the fault "moves" with the satellite the satellite is the problem. On the other hand, if the hissing remains on the same channel, the subwoofer amplifier electronics are the cause.
The satellites 'crackle'!
Please disconnect the Teufel speaker system from your PC or other connected devices by unplugging the cable and check whether the “crackling” stops. Try operating the set with a different power source/in a different room (just use an extension cable).

If you can still hear the crackling, please check which satellites are affected by swapping them around and to find out whether the satellite or the subwoofer electronics are generating the excessive crackling. If the "fault" moves with the satellites, the satellite is affected. The subwoofer amplifier electronics may be responsible if you can still hear the crackling.
I am getting interfering radio signals!
The interference of unwanted radio frequencies may occur and is caused by local conditions. If this happens, unplug all RCA cables from the product and test to see if the radio signals stop.

If the interference continues, try using a shorter high-end shielded and insulated RCA connector cable.
The satellite reproduction is distorted!
The Concept E Magnum is a set that provides highly distortion-free reproduction.

Please check whether the distortion is coming from the signal source, for example if the volume settings of the sound card software are too high (e.g. at 100%).
I can hear background noises that only occur at certain volumes!
If the noise keeps occuring at certain levels in steps of ten, the phenomenon that you have described is a characteristic of the Concept E Magnum that is due to its design, not a defect.

Because you have the option of selecting the volume using the volume setting options on your PC/DVD player, instead of using the remote control and the volume control on the subwoofer, this critical setting point can be avoided in everyday life.
