Overview of our technologies
Practical usability, quality sound and a designer appeal don't have to contract one another! Despite its multitude of functions, Motiv 5 is anything but a rustic all-in-one tool. It has all the refinement and sophistication you'd expect from a Teufel surround sound system.
Motiv® 5 appeals to multiple senses. Not only is it beyond sonorous, it's tactile and visual as well. Its sound is underpinned by a substantial subwoofer, which pulls together the entire system.
Motiv® 5 expands on the successes of its smaller stereo version, the Motiv 2. This 5.1 surround sound set has been meticulously tuned to work in perfect unison with its included A 500/6 SW subwoofer.
400 watt amplifier for 30 sqm
With this fully active system, you'll enjoy reserves of 400 watts of musical output. That's enough power for the bass driver and five satellites to fill spaces up to 30 sqm.
Plenty of connections
Motiv 5 can be connected to a Blu-ray or DVD player (analog outputs necessary!), a PC sound card or any other stereo source. It can also be connected to a home cinema receiver, or Teufel's ControlStation or Decoderstation.
Good looks, but powerful
Motiv 5 is both a gorgeous and particularly powerful system. It's designed for full multimedia compatibility and therefore geared with universal functionality for the future of audio. ?

Despite its compact dimensions, our many years of experience in subwoofer construction means that this smart, attractive woofer can make itself be heard – very loudly.
An infrared remote control is included for controlling the levels of the individual channels and, if necessary, the overall volume can be easily adjusted from the listening location.

The HiFi Test Magazin tested the Teufel System 4 against five other competing systems of the same price class in the July/August issue. This test victory made us so excited, we had to include a short excerpt out of the total test here for you:
"In the end, there can only be one winner and the winner this time is the Berlin-based direct seller Teufel. It's amazing what the designers were able to put together for a total price of € 800,-. The most powerful subwoofer in this test is able to lay a solid bass foundation beneath the balanced sound of the satellites even in large home theatre setups."
Overall rating: A / "very good"
"The homogenous, highly dynamic sound and detailed response of this system are very unusual in this price category. On top of this, the System 4 offers outstanding transparency in the high frequency range. Voices are always clear and highly intelligible. The very powerful active subwoofer blends harmoniously with the other speakers and has sufficient reserves to handle even the most thunderous special effects. At the same time, it is also sophisticated enough to handle demanding musical material smoothly. The two very compact dipole speakers are responsible for the lively, dense surround sound experience."
• Surprisingly detailed response
• Very clear separation of voices and instruments
• Full, atmospheric rear channel sound
• Outstanding SPL-handling capacity
• Active subwoofer with amazing depth
• Very good performance in stereo mode
Price/performance ratio: 10 / 10 stars

Everything about the system comes together perfectly. Its successful calibration in particular can't be praised enough. We recommend buying this set without reservation. We could have shortened our review by simply writing: "good, good, good and, again... good." Thanks, Teufel!"

Teufel has spared no effort to triumphantly ascend the PC speaker system throne with the Motiv 5. The doubt's gone even after a few moments of listening: all their efforts have been worthwhile.
No other sets offer such a free and natural tweeter as the Teufel sets do. They also manage to find the perfect mix of precise and audiophile moderation as well as pure joy in playing to really awaken the emotions. And listeners, which have favourite songs which you won’t miss anymore, at least not with the Motiv 5.
Design & Worksmanship
Teufel delivers with the Motiv 5 a perfectly finished product; a product with no flaws in its worksmanship. All loudspeakers including the subwoofer have a black mirror finish on the top and rounded corners, solidifying its impression as a very modern system. The mirror finish is a bit different than we expected, being relatively impervious to finger smudges, and is easily cleanable.
The playback of sound is, before all else, precise with the loudspeakers giving clear high tones, which sounds perfect, when in normal ranges as well as by high volumes. The subwoofer displays an excellent bass with regular volumes. If you let that Teufel woofer go, however, it bellows out and fills the entire room, scaring the neighbors too.
The design is quite posh and looks very modern, the worksmanship is absolutely perfect, the adapter and assembly of the loudspeakers is child's play (thanks to the excellent installation instructions), the remote control ensures your comfort when flipping and the most important point – the sound quality – totally astounded us.
Allround PC results:
• Very modern design
• Excellent worksmanship
• Elaborate operating instructions
• Clear highs
• High performance

The subwoofer surprises with really powerful, hard bass and the satellites align the crystal clear sound picture throughout without perceptible distortion or shilly-shallying. The system works together precisely, consistent in play regardless of the application you set it to. Every individual channel is adjustable – from light and easy to bringing the walls down! For me, sound-wise, it's the best surround system in the PC area, as well as the best system I've heard to date!
The new Motiv 5 from Teufel definitely doesn't need to hide its light under a bushel! The new version of the Motiv 2 surround sound is a very posh and clear-sounding 5.1 system. The Motiv 5 surprises through clean worksmanship and extremely elegant lacquer. The Motiv 5 trounces the competition in the PC arena just from the technical data, but you can really see the pure power performance in play, as well. By high loud volumes and strong bass the Motiv 5 hits the highs and lows cleanly without straining in the slightest – and also plays beautifully when in a normal sized sitting room with a clear honest sound.
• Great visuals thanks to the lacquer finish
• Modern and pleasing design
• Clear sound picture through the satellites
• Extreme high performance subwoofer
• Excellent worksmanship
• Remote control included
• Long guarantee period

"Our conclusion: small speakers, big sound – the Motiv 5 from Teufel delivers the best results in every situation!"
After nearly two weeks of testing, we've made up our minds about the compact Motiv 5 loudspeaker system: Once again, Teufel has done a great job. The system's elegant subwoofer transforms into a howling monster within seconds, and the five satellite speakers score well with their high SPL capacities and harmonious sound reproduction. Even loudspeaker systems above and beyond the € 800 mark have a difficult time holding their own with this audio gem from the Berlin company. The Motiv 5 produces the right sound for every situation – regardless of whether you’re just gaming, listening to music, or watching an exciting movie.
Simply put, the Motiv 5 is wicked fun!

"When we did the test, we were astounded. The stereo sound speakers sound pleasantly round and handle the spatial structures of the room very well. The subwoofer plays a very nice role with regards to the bass sounds and properly dampens the lower regions which would limit the small speakers, otherwise.
The Teufel set also plays astonishingly well with multi-channel power. The subwoofer power amplifier connection ensures that loud scenes can be played using this compact set without a problem. For enjoying a film within your own four walls the Teufel set can be played in volume regions which far exceed a conventional PC Speaker system. Clear space and defined bass makes every film an experience. But only with the AV Receiver do the small satellites show what's in them. And these clearly win with their sharp dynamics and authority. Thanks to a compact form and closed design the speakers have a good pulse duration, which is noticeable especially with the loud action sequences.
Teufel offers the right accessories for those who either have no player at home with analogue outputs or no AV Receiver. You can replace the AV Receiver with the Decoderstation 3. This small box offers three analogue stereo inputs, two optical digital inputs and a coaxial input as well. Four DSP-Modi and an integrated Dolby-Digital or DTS Decoder competes the package. This additional model can be purchased alongside the Motiv 5. Given the compact structure and the integrated subwoofer it’s certainly worth your consideration."
"It's one small arrangement that really delivers. The Motiv 5 is tailoured and intended to work within the PC area. The integrated amplifier in the subwoofer invigorates multi-channel sound when gaming equally as well as in the home theatre.
Through the optional Decoderstation 3, the arrangement can be extended to a digital multi-channel system that only requires those who want to play along. The full size sound, powerful support of the subwoofer and the uncomplicated configuration should not only catapult computer enthusiasts into new worlds of sound but also home theatre enthusiasts who consider getting started in the multi-channel world."

"Just like its 2-channel sibling, the Motiv 5 immediately won us over with a very transparent and engaging sound. Every note was in place and reproduced with exacting precision.
This precision was never lost, even when the volume was raised. The system sounded just as relaxed, airy, and unobtrusive as before. In fact, the Motiv 5 is miles ahead of all the surround sound loudspeaker systems we've previously tested."
HardwareLUXX Excellent Hardware Award
"There is no doubt that the 5.1 version of the Teufel Motiv series is a good pick, and not only for people who want to 'pimp' their computer setup. These speakers are as much fun playing back music as they are reproducing full-bodied theatre sound, and it can get pretty loud too. Add a Teufel Decoderstation 3 to the Motiv system for another € 130, and you'll see how your TV's audio output – no matter how feeble – will turn into an awesome AV experience."

The new System 5 holds its own with ease and even sounds a touch smoother than previously. However, the high power consumption we noticed in stand-by mode reduces the overall score by two-hundredths of a point in comparison to the predecessor model.
This system has nothing to fear from the competition. Comparable loudspeaker sets suitable for both music and movie playback are generally larger or more expensive – or both.

If you're serious about audio in movies, then there's no getting around this full-blown, THX-certified loudspeaker system – the ideal basis for excellent cinematic sound. The design of the System 9 THX Ultra 2 comes across as rather subdued for its size, yet it provides an extraordinarily good sound quality and a stunning dynamic range. It's pretty much impossible to find better sound for the money. That's why the System 9 earns our "Highlight" rating – no contest!
• Sound: A+
• Testing: A+
• Operation: A
• Value for money: Excellent
Overall grade: A+
The listening test further demonstrated that Teufel can be proud of its System 9. The set's biggest strength is its extremely homogeneous spatial imaging. The sound seems to emanate from a single spot, much like from a set of coaxial loudspeakers. Speaker colouration is a foreign word for the Teufel team, as this system sounded completely harmonious and well-balanced. It didn't act like an audiophile diva that shows off its trademarks by performing a select few idiosyncratic works. In fact the Teufel system presented itself as a jack-of-all-trades that could handle a demanding music ensemble just as well as the wide dynamic range of an action-packed movie soundtrack.

In Luc Besson's "The Fifth Element", the alien diva gives such an impressive rendition of her aria that the viewer completely forgets about the loudspeakers and almost feels inclined to join in on the applause at the end of the performance.

The even response and wide dynamic range of the Teufel System 9 makes it a superb loudspeaker set and a review highlight. Designed for rooms sized up to 100 m², it delivers an impressive performance thanks to its uncritical radiating characteristics – even in mid-sized home theatres. The size and price of the system appear to be almost underrated in relation to its performance.

Teufel has crafted a delightful synthesis of products with its System 9, demonstrating that contrary to popular opinion, you can enjoy music on a THX system just as much as a movie soundtrack. No matter if it’s soft or loud, it's always a blast. And thanks to the good efficiency rating of the electronics, there are no performance issues whatsoever. Clearly a top pick at this price.

"We're excited about this! Thanks for your vote!
A lot helps – a lot. The M 9500 is the only THX-licensed device in the Ultra 2. Roughly a meter high towers pile up two 12 ers with a power amplifier that is hot hot hot. The devil does what he promises, bringing the highest of highs with the deepest of tones for the ultimate fun.
You’re guaranteed to be blown away with the M 9500 from Teufel. You have to hear what the two conservative 12-ers combined with a powerful, first-class amplifier can do. When it comes right down to it, the rest of the field just doesn’t compare (and that in the comparison test: 12 subwoofers from different manufacturers!)

Downloads & support
This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.
A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
1. Remove the RCA cable from the input on the subwoofer. If the hum is no longer heard, go to point B. Otherwise, follow point A.
A. Attach the net cable of the subwoofer to another electricity outlet (i.e. Kitchen/Bathroom/Bedroom). If the subwoofer still hums, get in contact with our Support team.
Should the hum no longer be there, the disruption was a problem in your power supply, which can, for instance, be caused by dimmers or chargers. To find out where the disruption is, unplug all your devices and work back from there. As soon as the hum is heard, you now know your source of the disruption.
B. In your case, the "ground hum" is responsible for the disruption. Please proceed as follows to discover your source.
- Disconnect the cable or satellite port from the TV Receiver and check if the hum disappears or not. If it does, you can use a sheath current filter for the cable outlet to prevent this. For example, the sheath current filter AC 9022 ED. If you have a satellite connection, connect the Satellite Receiver to the optical cable playback source - Teufel Optical Digital Cable
- If this reason can be excluded, separate all devices from the AV Receiver one at a time until the hum stops. The last connected device is then your hum source and should be separated from the others using a galvanic separation filter (found in a retail shop)
- If this doesn't work, get in contact with us once again so that we can give an individual, helpful response.
You can check the basic noise level by connecting a signal, via a cinch cable, from an external source that is guaranteed to be good quality – such as a music CD e.g. on a portable CD player – to the Aux L/R input on the subwoofer. If all of the satellites are now playing noise-free, it is because they weren't receiving the right signal before. Either the cinch cable is defective (try swapping them around) or the output of your source appliance is not producing an adequate signal.
However, if you continue to hear increased noise on this channel there is possibly a fault in the Concept F. Please check which satellites are affected by changing the satellites around and to find out whether the satellite or the subwoofer electronics are producing excessive noise. If the fault "moves" with the satellite the satellite is the problem. On the other hand, if the hissing remains on the same channel, the subwoofer amplifier electronics are the cause.
If you can still hear the crackling, please check which satellites are affected by swapping them around and to find out whether the satellite or the subwoofer electronics are generating the excessive crackling. If the "fault" moves with the satellites, the satellite is affected. The subwoofer amplifier electronics may be responsible if you can still hear the crackling.
If the interference continues, try using a shorter high-end shielded and insulated RCA connector cable.
However, we recommend the conventional connection method, see "How do I connect the Motiv 5 to an AV Receiver?"
