THX Speaker Bar
dts Digital Entertainment
The dream of every home cinema fan

An enormously powerful, dynamic THX set in a compact, space-saving design. As a THX home cinema trail blazer, Teufel mastered the technology of creating cinema quality sound in a range of easily integrated designs. We most recently pioneered the adaptation of this demanding standard to the elegant and versatile soundbar.

Surround yourself with sound, not speakers

The Cinebar 51 THX is more than an upgrade for your flatscreen sound – it takes you into the depths of a true cinema experience with the hassle free set-up and elegant look of a soundbar.

It doesn't matter whether you're watching a Blu-ray action movie, a drama with a lot of dialogue on DVD, a live concert on CD, or the latest dance tracks from a USB flash drive - the Cinebar 51 THX delivers breathtaking bass and goosebump-inducing sound with fantastic power reserves. Whatever the sound source, the result is a guaranteed adrenaline rush.

An enormous power output of 350 watts delivers more than enough sound for rooms up to 35 square meters; and thanks to Dolby Virtual Speaker technology, you’ll experience a rich and powerful dimensionality that will send your guests looking for where the other speakers are hidden.

All THX certified speaker bars fulfil the highest standards for audio construction so you know you’re getting the best technology out there. Our Cinebar 51 THX features two aluminium tweeters with 25 mm drivers and a total of four 100 mm midrange/bass drivers with very robust yet lightweight coated cellulose membranes capable of translating power from the efficient class D amplifier into high-impact, clear sound.

The soundbar is supported by an outstanding subwoofer with a 150 watt amplifier and a 250 mm bass driver. The use of THX Boundary Gain Compensation ensures that you perceive full, powerful, and precise bass no matter where you sit in the room.

The Cinebar 51 THX offers a wide range of connection possibilities including optical and coaxial digital inputs, two stereo cinch inputs as well as a USB port located directly beneath the display.

The Cinebar 51 THX has it all: power, THX certification, and an elegantly minimalist design.

"The THX licensing really makes its presence felt when it comes to dynamics."
Audio 03/2013
"Teufel recently added a soundbar to its colleciton that meets the THX standards for soundbars. The parameters for dispersion, linearity, and dynamics laid out therein can only be met by solid hardware. The Cinebar 51 is equipped with 6 drivers, two of which are tweeters. The four midbass drivers cover different frequency ranges which enables a precisely defined dispersion.”

"The soundbar supports both Dolby Digital and DTS. The intensity of the Dolby Virtual surround sound simulation can be set to two different levels. Bass and high frequencies are variable. There is even an equalizer with pre-defined settings. The bass makes use of a separate woofer that made a very good showing in our measurement laboratory with an authentic 37 Hertz and levels up to 109 decibels.

The THX licensing really makes its presence felt when it comes to dynamics. The soundbar / subwoofer combination processes even the most extreme eruptions with amazing ease and can keep up with a conventional speaker set in the same price class when it comes to bass and neutral tonality. The virtualizer works without dimensional excess and created a pleasant atmosphere. The Cinebar mastered even pure music with a fine timbre and good dynamics. All-in-all, the sound was very respectable. Listeners with space issues have no reason to hold back."

"Teufel’s soundbar offers more than the front-runer Canton in terms of sound at the same low price. This makes it an attractive alternative [...] and our price/performance winner."
video 06/2013
"Teufel’s Cinebar 51 THX is a front-runner in the sound championships, and is also the only soundbar in the test field that makes use of a classic 2.1 solution with a separate subwoofer. The duo sets itself apart from the competition with an impressive sound. With a price under  €750, it was also the least expensive device in the top 5.”

"The Teufel Cinebar 51 THX got the highest score for sound. The device can attribute this above all to its THX licensing, which Teufel offers as the first manufacturer in the area of soundbars. The 2.1 duo comprised of soundbar and subwoofer especially won us over with a broad sound stage and authentic dimensionality as well as stable levels even in the bass range along with good speech intelligibility. With this, Teufel pulled ahead of 2nd and 4th places and even surpassed the front-runner. [...] Teufel’s soundbar offers more than the front-runer Canton in  terms of sound at the same low price. This makes it an attractive alternative [...] and our price/performance winner. Audiophile home cinema fans who don’t want to set up an extensive speaker set in the living room will really enjoy the soundbar from Teufel.”

"The expectations connected to the THX logo were wonderfully fulfilled"
Video Home Vision 01/2013
"The devil’s in the details – in a postive sense: Because the Berlin direct sellers are able to lay claim to THX expertise here in Germany like no one else, they spared no expense in making the Cinebar the first of its kind with this licensing procedure. The expectations connected to the THX logo were wonderfully fulfilled: The performance was searing, in no small part thanks to the subwoofer with a 25 cm driver and 150 watt amplifier. Those who sit directly in the middle of the system can enjoy Dolby Virtual Speaker – a broad sound stage and supple extensivity.

In terms of features, Teufel sticks to the basics [...] In exchange, it has stable levels and bass of the highest order.”

"In stereo as well as in surround mode, Teufel knows how to produce a pleasant and full sound image without exhibiting any disrupting excess."
Digital Fernsehen 01/2013
"The soundbar has an elegant black lacquer look and is equipped in the front with a small display and basic controls. The USB interface is also located here which facilitates the quick insertion of USB storage devices. Along with two stereo cinch inputs, there are two digital connections located in the back whereby a coaxial or optical cables per SPDIF can be used. Decoders for multichannel formals AC3 and DTS are integrated.“

"In stereo as well as in surround mode, Teufel knows how to produce a pleasant and full sound image without exhibiting any disrupting excess. The soundbar evinces a characteristic colouration in the midrange, which varies according to EQ settings.  [...] The subwoofer has a bass which becomes even stronger in the „wide“ mode. The surround effect, however, was only evident in the center of the listening position. Especially the high frequencies had a subtly localizable quality with virtual speaker technology in both modes. The dimensionality of a 5.1 set was not replicated, but compared to television sound, it represents a big acoustic improvement.”

"The THX logo means that the Lucas movie offshoot has tested the soundbar for sound quality and maximum sound pressure and found it to be good - ideally up to two meters listening distance."

"...the device fulfills the THX’s testing center’s highest quality standards; which, at the end of the day, is merely confirmation of the Teufel technicians' engineering skills.”
Digital Tested 05/2012
"In stereo mode as well as in surround, Teufel gets it right with a pleasant, full sound image without any obtrusively exaggerated effects. The soundbar evinces a characteristic colouration in the midrange that varies according to the EQ setting. This can be especially heard with speech. The subwoofer has a pleasant depth. In the the wide mode, it becomes even strong and at times localizable. The surround effect can only be set from a centered listening position. In both modes, the high range can be discretely localized from the position of the virtual loudspeakers. While the dimensionality of a 5.1 set is  not achieved, the system represents a large acoustic improvement compared to flatscreen tone.”

"But does THX licensing really make the soundbar sound better? Just last year, Teufel’s Cinebar 50 was a guest in our editorial department. In terms of hardware, there doesn’t seem to be a lot that’s changed according to the data sheet. The decisive difference is the THX seal of approval. In this case, this does not indicate that the already very good sound was improved. Instead, it gives the buyer an additional point of reference, because the device fulfills the THX’s testing center’s highest quality standards; which, at the end of the day, is merely confirmation of the Teufel technicians' engineering skills.”

Practical features such as the USB port and the pre-installed wall mounts perfectly round out this devilishly complete all-in-one set."

Cinebar 51 THX | "Continuous THX"
audiovision 06-07/2012
Conclusion:

The Teufel Cinebar 51 THX is no 5.1 speaker system and this system can't completely replace that - especially for the spatial impressions. But for those who want to have one set in only one spot, namely for the TV, this system is a successful compromise, enabling one to enjoy music and movie soundtracks.

"Teufel 2.1 Cinebar 51 - THX sound from a Soundbar!"
Area DVD 05/2012
Teufel wants to redefine the word soundbar - no simple setup anymore, but rather a full on acoustically perfect technology in a new form. The Cinebar 51 has the THX speakerbar certificate, and truly shows how fabulous it can sound. The features are impressive: 350 watt performance, for rooms up to 35 sqm; a 250 mm woofer in the active subwoofer, a 150 watt amplifier which goes down to 35 Hz.

Drivers include two 25 mm aluminium tweeters and two 100 midrange drivers along with two 100 woofers with the lighter cellulose membrane (2.5 way system). The housing worksmanship also surprises and really emphasises the absolute class this kit has.

Conclusion
The Cinebar 51 delivers a spatial, strong and dynamic sound that sounds perfect even at high volumes. Music and film can be enjoyed - what you'd not necessarily expect from a soundbar system. The THX Speakerbar certificate guarantees enormous performance over the entire frequency range, and the Cinebar 51 does not disappoint.

Everything on this set has been thought through, from A to Z. So this, the Cinebar 51 THX, delivers a gorgeous exterior, flexible usage possibilities, easy as pie handling and usage, and a powerful, amazing surround sound. It's only logical that this system would be the first in Europe to receive a THX certification for Speakerbar.

"Teufel's great THX sound"
SFT 06/2012
The Teufel Cinebar 51 is the big sister to the Cinebar 21 (graded 1.7 A level by SFT). The new product is only slightly wider and higher than its cheaper predecessor, aside from the thicker subwoofer. But the Cinebar 51 brings more than double the power: a fantastic 100 watts per channel, and that with still compact dimensions - to get 150 watts from the bass.

You can't expect real surround sound, but there's no comparable quality model in this price range. The Cinebar 51 convinces in terms of sound quality in all disciplines, most especially with the strong bass and clear centre, but also powerful reserves for such a small compact system. For rooms up to 25 sqm you can't go wrong.

"Power player"
Video Home vision 07/2012
“The soundbar segment now has THX licensing and Teufel is the first to claim it. With it, the Berlin duo has achieved an impressive sound [In a comparison test of five soundbars]. This can especially be observed in action movies. A subwoofer with a 250 mm bass driver and 150 watt amplifier together with a soundbar containing four x 10 cm bass/midrange drivers and two aluminium tweeters deliver scintillating scenes. Dolby Virtual Speaker ensures great dimensionality as long as one has a central position in front of the Cinebar. The Boundary Gain Compensation (BGC) button helps listening positions closer to the wall avoid excess bass – a very practical feature.

In terms of connectivity, everything you need is on board: two digital and one analogue input, although there is no HDMI connection. The small remote containing all important features works somewhat hesitantly; yet when the film “The Dark Knight” plays in the wide mode, the soundbar radiates a broad cinematic sound image, has authentic dimensionality, level stability, and good bass and speech intelligibility. Even stereo sound profits from the wide mode which gives music a more balanced sound.”

Help regarding this product
Do I need a THX amplifier for the THX speakers?
Not necessarily!

The receiver/amplifier must have bass management where the frequencies are distributed for the THX front/centre speakers and the THX subwoofer (cut-off frequency 80 Hz).

Also, the amplifier should exhibit a minimum rating of 100 watt per channel and match the speakers for performance (amplifier sine wave output = approx. long-term load of speaker).
Are THX speakers suitable for listening to music?
Of course.

Since THX speakers are optimised to play back multi-channel signals (4 or 5.1 channels), the front speakers permit the precisely staggered and very true to detail spatial playback, while the surround speakers ensure realistic room characteristics.

Both are also ideal requirements for playing back music.
Is THX compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS?
Absolutely!

The objective of THX home cinema systems is to play back film soundtracks with as much authenticity and quality as the original mix from the sound studio.

In all studios used for film dubbing, the soundtracks are mixed in a 4-channel version (Dolby Surround) and in a 5.1 channel version. The acoustics, equalizer settings and speaker configurations are absolutely identical.

THX systems are thus always able to play back soundtracks produced in this way absolutely true to the original. Because of the high technical and tonal requirements, the THX standard can be compared with the TÜV (German Technical Control Board) for cinema sound.

As opposed to the THX quality standard, DTS and Dolby Digital are procedures for compressing sound data.
What is so special about a THX System?
THX systems are the ultimate home cinema components.

All THX-licensed devices and speakers must demonstrate certain technical properties so that they can play back movie soundtracks produced for cinemas and correspondingly powerful cinema sound systems absolutely true to the original for home cinemas as well. This is only possible up to a certain point with conventional hi-fi systems.

The most important requirements for excellent home cinema sound are:

• That despite the considerable size difference between cinemas and home cinemas, the movie soundtrack can be played back in comparably smaller rooms with the correct tonal balance and three-dimensionality.

• That all sound channels are played back very precisely despite the complexity of a multi-channel soundtrack to be able to precisely locate and allocate all noises and voices.

• That the subwoofer is perfectly coupled to the main speakers.

• That the front speakers are (by sound) identical - indispensable for harmonious sound playback.

THX systems satisfy these requirements perfectly, as they consider all running processes concerning playback while the movie soundtrack is being mixed.
What are the differences between THX Ultra 2, THX Select and THX Multimedia?
THX is a quality standard that guarantees the best possible playback for a specific room size. Since THX was originally developed for cinema theatres, the specifications apply to room sizes that far exceed the average living room size.

THX currently differentiates three standards for speakers: THX Ultra 2, THX Select and THX Multimedia.

THX Select 2 only applies to AV Receivers/amplifiers.
THX Ultra 2 corresponds to the earlier THX with the uncompromising design of the components.

Comparison of the three THX standards:

Front speaker
• THX Ultra 2: Angle of radiation and frequency response strictly limited requirement, D'Appolito arrangement of speaker systems prescribed.
• THX Select: More generous specifications for angle of radiation and frequency response.
• THX Multimedia: Radiation behaviour corresponds to THX Select.

Surround speaker
• THX Ultra 2: Dipoles are compulsory.
• THX Select: Dipoles recommended, but not compulsory.
• THX Multimedia: Direct emitters in every respect.

Subwoofer - transfer frequency

• THX Ultra 2: 80 Hz
• THX Select: 100 Hz
• THX Multimedia: 130 Hz

Volume level

• THX Ultra: Continuous load 105 dB (front) / 102 dB (surround).
• THX Select: Short term load 105 dB (front) / 102 dB (surround).
• THX Multimedia: 103 dB at the listening location/desk at approx. 50 cm distance.

Performance profile

• THX Ultra 2:
More output performance than normal AV Receivers. Complies with the strictest requirements for minor background noise and minor distortion. Is designed for performance needs of large listening rooms up to 150 m².
• THX Select:
Structure of AV Receiver is simpler and thus more reasonably priced. Less performance required, therefore suitable for smaller and medium-sized listening rooms up to approx. 50 m².
• THX Multimedia:
Pure PC and/or multimedia speakers for use at the computer.

Speaker set-up

• THX Ultra 2: Arrangement and set-up strictly regulated.
• THX Select: Set-up and arrangement simpler and more flexible.
• THX Multimedia: Set-up of front speakers on the desk, rear speakers to the side and behind where you are sitting.
How can I upgrade my THX system to a 7.1 sound format?
With the THX 7.1 amplifiers/receivers, there is always the option of connecting two rear centre speakers. We would also recommend using four rear speakers. Due to the elaborate development of our rear speakers, our models can be used very flexibly for any application. Here we have to differentiate as follows: - You have a THX Select/Ultra 2 device and want to connect two rear centre speakers: if you already use dipoles or direct radiators in your 5.1 system, you have the choice of adding either two more dipoles or two direct radiators as rear centres. For wall mounting and/or at a short distance from seat to rear wall (less than 1.00 m), we would recommend dipoles that are also operated in dipole mode (for System 4 THX, for example, order 2 x additional S 400 D). As soon as you want to place the speaker on stands or on a shelf, we would recommend direct radiators (for System 4 THX, e.g. order 2 x additional S 400 FCR). As soon as you already use direct radiators with your 5.1 system, we would recommend the same type of direct radiators for the upgrade. You have a THX Ultra 2 unit and want to connect two rear centres: a circuit especially developed for THX Ultra 2 devices allows you to use two more direct radiators or two more dipoles in addition to the dipoles used as rear effect loudspeakers.
What's behind THX Optimode?
THX Optimode is the latest development of the THX Digital Mastering Program consisting of a series of tests that enable every home cinema user to adjust his system exactly in picture and sound to the Optimode DVD currently in the DVD player.

The first DVD that supported the new feature was "Fight Club" in the Special Edition by 20th Century Fox (NTSC version). The offer has been continually expanded in the meantime.

The tests, which can be played on NTSC as well as PAL DVDs, consist of video tests that are helpful in optimally setting and configuring the TV or video projector, as well as audio tests that guarantee that the sound system is configured perfectly.

The special thing about these tests is the fact that the measuring signals are identical to the reference signals that were used during the final mixing of the relevant DVD. The home cinema system can therefore be co-ordinated accurately and individually to every single DVD with THX Optimode.

The goal of the entire procedure is that the sound and particularly the picture should appear in the home cinema exactly as the producer imagined. Let's assume the film producer wanted to create a certain mood in the film using specific colouring; this only works in the home cinema if the screen at home is just as co-ordinated as in the studio. Thanks to THX Optimode, that is guaranteed as far as possible.

Operating THX Optimode is just as easy: The software on the DVD includes all of the tests. Individually, these are video tests to set the contrast, brightness, colour, colouring, control of the correct ratio of picture length to picture width and the possibility to test the general qualities of the monitor.

In addition, there are audio tests for the phases of the speakers, connection of the speakers and the cut-off frequency of the LFE (subwoofer channel). Some tests will clearly show when it is necessary to consult a specialist for the settings.
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
Which cables do I need to connect a Teufel speaker set to the AV Receiver?
A home cinema system needs speaker cables to connect the satellite speakers to the receivers, and an NF mono RCA cable to connect the active subwoofer to the sub out socket of the AV Receiver.
What is the advantage of a THX certified soundbar?
The advantage lies in the heightened performance of the included components - that's why it's THX certified. It all works perfectly together - regardless if it's the amplifier performance, the room spatiality, or the speech intelligibility - with THX your sound experience is simply heightened.
How do I connect the Cinebar 51 to my flatscreen?
The connection is super easy - if your flatscreen has an optical or coaxial digital output, simply connect that to the Cinebar's digital input. Most TVs have an optical (most fall in this category) or coaxial (sometimes) digital output.
How do I connect the Cinebar's subwoofer?
This is where you use the mini RCA cable, connecting it to the subwoofer output on the back of the Cinebar to the RCA input on the subwoofer. This cable is included in the delivery oft he Cinebar 51 THX.
What does Dolby Virtual Speaker technology actually do?
The Dolby Virtual Speaker system is a virtual surround sound system that Dolby Laboratory in the USA has developed and patented. Algorithms and psychoacoustic effects create the effect of surround sound in the listening area. For playback of film sound, Dolby Virtual Surround is simply the best. There are two programs ("Reference" and "Wide") to expand your listening experience. For music playback we recommend to play the Cinebar 51 THX in a normal stereo mode.
Can the Cinebar 51 THX play music from USBs as well?
Yes, formats such as MP3, MP3 Pro and WMA can be played back in this system.
Why does the Cinebar 51 THX have no HDMI input?
The Cinebar 51 THX inputs data from the optical or coaxial digital inputs. This guarantees the highest audio quality and fantastic compatibility.
I have connected the Cinebar to my TV, but I don't hear any sound or the only sound coming out is from my flatscreen. Why is that?
It's not an automatic rule that every flatscreen automatically sends its sound to external speakers. Sometimes it's necessary to change the installation on your TV through its menu. To change your particular TV, please read through your operating instruction manual.
