"The mighty and powerful sound with rich bass and silky highs will really put you in a good mood and even the price won’t ruin it: € 450 is a bargain.”
Audio Video Foto Bild 02/2013
"The Ultima 40 is among the most-purchased loudspeakers in Germany – hip high, black, and everything other than inconspicuous. In other words, this is a floor-standing speaker that doesn’t hide. A listening test with the new Mk2 version is proof of the speaker’s success: Even with a small, 30 watt amplifier, the Ultimas delivered a full sound. The highs are silky, the sound stage is precise.“

Conclusion
"The Ultimas won’t be winning any beauty prizes, but the mighty and powerful sound with rich bass and silky highs will really put you in a good mood and even the price won’t ruin it:  € 450 is a bargain.”

"The 40 Mk2 gives you amazing natural sound, with more dynamics and emotion and with a deeper and tighter bass. "

"During the listening test it was clear that the Teufel Ultima 40 was already surprisingly good value and offered amazing sound but now the Ultima 40 Mk2 surpasses its forerunner on all counts. The slightly higher price is fully justified '

"...the monster loudspeakers from Teufel"
techtest.org 08.03.2017
Conclusion: "I'm really impressed with the Ultima 40 MK2. I expected them to be goodin the first place, but Teufel have really knocked my socks off. The best thing is that the Ultima 40 MK2 not only sounds very good, but are also well-processed and look very high-quality. This is a combination which is rare for 450 € and 225 € per piece! The Teufel Ultima 40 MK2 rock! " By: Michael Barton

"...absolute highlight in its price range..."
www.technic3d.com 29.11.2016
"If you buy the Teufel Ultima 40 MK2, you get an expanded standbox for approx. 500 €, which doesn't only look good, but sounds great. The design and processing are very good for this price class and the quality of the materials is impressive." "The sound character of the box is characterised by a neutral-homogeneous playing style with a shot of warmth in the overall soundscape. Despite this, the Ultima 40 MK2 has good dynamic abilities and makes vocal tuning expressive [...] Above all, however, the voluminous, deep bass with good structure is one of the special strengths of the Ultima 40 MK2." "With its sonic performance, the Ultima 40 MK2 sits in the upper-middle class and is an absolute must-have in the € 500 price league."

"... offer tremendous power and sound as well as good processing ..."
metal.de 13.03.2016
"The Teufel Ultima 40 Mk2 is more than purely fun speakers - the speakers deliver a natural, fairly linear and powerful sound with little distortion. Particularly when connected to the Yamaha amplifier, the loudspeakers sound very lively, especially with the powerful, deep and surprisingly precise bass, obviously the Teufel Ultima 40 Mk2 feels at home here. Fortunately, the overall sound characteristics have been pleasantly balanced, even though the bass is quite full. Therefore, the balanced mid-tones are very homogeneous, and voices can be clearly separated from the rest of the instruments, even if you turn up the volume. The high tones are also precise and airy, only with small distortions [...]. The three-dimensionality, complexity and dynamics of the sound are expected from more expensive speakers, so the Berliners have done very well. And even at high volumes, the sound of the transducers is still precise and stable [...]. " "The Teufel Ultima 40 Mk2 offers tremendous power and sound as well as good processing for a relatively low price. The loudspeakers, when driven by a sensible amplifier, are particularly impressive for playback of music with powerful bass. It would be hard to find better in this price bracket."

Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of dj broadcast
"Outstanding bass, beautiful sound"
dj broadcast 02/2013
"I have listened to various songs for this test because I know exactly how those tracks should sound. The first and perhaps most important thing that immediately stands out is the detail of the speakers. This was so precise that my ear didn’t experience any fatigue, which can’t be said for some class-A speakers from a higher price range. The tightness of the bass is striking. The layer was not messy or unclear, which also can affect higher frequencies in the spectrum. This excellent bass could be a consequence of the two bass reflex opening wide, which cause less compression at high volume hits. The two bass pipes feature a trumpet shaped end on both sides, which the air merely supported. If you consider that your speakers eight weeks you can try before you may still return, and given the favorable price and the beautiful, balanced sound, I would definitely bring my living room." furnishing."

"The Ultima 40 Mk2 is in every respect much more mature, precise, sensitive and dynamic, making it even more fun.”
Digital Home 01/2013
"With sophisticated Klippel analysis and intensive listening tests, Teufel fine tuned the parameters and membrane materials for the midrange and bass drivers.  The result is that two woofers with 130 mm membranes made from a fiberglass-cellulose composite are at work in the bass reflex enclosure. The bass reflex tuning was also improved and endows the Ultima 40 Mk2 with an even more palpable and precise deep bass than its predecessor. The Berliners were also able to substantially lower the low-pass frequency (approx. 400 Hz) of the two midrange drivers by using a super stable and light 130 mm kevlar membrane which positively affects the homogenous dispersion of voices and instruments.

Just about the smallest but acoustically most improved detail in the new Ultima 40 Mk2 is the completely new tweeter. The 25 mm fabric dome tweeter is able to markedly expand the Ultima’s dynamic range as well as reduce distortion in the upper range to an absolute minimum. In addition, the use of a horn waveguide endows the premium tweeter on the new Ultima with a much better omnidirectional sound distribution.”

Conclusion
"[T]he Ultima 40 Mk2 is in every respect much more mature, precise, sensitive and dynamic, making it even more fun.”

Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Raveline
Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Raveline
"the new 40 doesn’t sound like it belongs in the under € 500 price range"
Raveline 11/2012
"To describe the Ultima as a come-on product gives the wrong impression, yet this assessment describes what one gets in that the new 40 doesn’t sound like it belongs in the under 500 Euro price range and we’re talking about a pair price! For € 449.99, you get two full size floor standing speakers with double bass and a three-way system. 57 litres of volume ensures a substantial bass; a generously dimensioned high and midrange ensures worthy accompaniment in the upper ranges.”

"With the Ultima 40 Mk2, rooms up to 35 square metres can be easily filled with sound. Our editorial team’s test showed that even bigger spaces wouldn’t be a problem. The Ultima 40 Mk2 won’t run out of steam even in rooms that are substantially larger than 35 square metres - the sound remains exceptionally voluminous. The speakers have a 57 litre volume and both bass drivers go down to 40 Hz.”

"The speakers are able to handle club music without a problem with a tight bass and snappy transient response. The lower highs and upper mids are characterized by a clean sound in the stereo image and the midrange is able to keep up even at high volumes. The Ultima 40 Mk2 generally has a grown up sound – much more mature than its predecessor.”

"For home use, the Ultima 40 Mk2 flawlessly covers all areas at a price of just € 449.99 per pair. Whether in a discreet listening environment or at a party, it won’t break a sweat and will reward you with thoroughly balanced  sound.”

Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Audio
"Inexpensive loudspeakers seldomly evince such versatility."
Audio 12/2012
"The Ultima 40 from Teufel is a markedly full-fledge floor standing speaker that can be had for just € 450. Even the feel of the speakers is very high-end. The horizontal edges are generously rounded, the terminals have a non-slip texture, and the baffle has a glossy elegance. The fabric cover makes a truly exclusive impression. The supports are made from a plastic mesh which disrupts the lateral dispersion much less than the padded wooden frames used in the past.“

"The drivers with membranes made from fibreglass, kevlar, and fabric were subtly improved, and the crossover was completely redone.“

"More important than the new reference values is the acoustic experience, and this completely won us over. Greatly improved tuning has even made the Ultima suitable for classical music. Any concerns that the character of the first generation has been lost are unfounded. The impulsive electro pop track ‘My Dog Eats Beats’ shines so impressively forth from the Mk2 that fans of this genre won’t be able to wipe the smile off their faces.  [...] The Teufel speakers even cut a good figure with the emotional Neil Diamond ballad 'I’m a Believer.‘ Inexpensive loudspeakers seldomly evince such versatility.”

Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Hifi Test Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Hifi Test Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of Hifi Test
"In the listening test, the Ultima 40 Mk2 won us over with a staggeringly good performance."
Hifi Test 06/2012
"Our laboratory measurements already indicated that the Ultima 40 Mk2 is a formidable loudspeaker, with bass playback that reaches depths below 45 Hz along with a balanced high and mid-range. In terms of distortion, dynamics and impulse fidelity, the Ultima delivers equally first class values. In the listening test, the Ultima 40 Mk2 won us over with a staggeringly good performance. Its astonishingly airy, wide-ranging and dazzling upper frequency playback harmonizes perfectly with the neutral and yet engaging midrange. Chris Jones’ accoustic guitarre on 'No Sanctuary Here‘ was once again our listening reference. Teufel’s new Ultima had perfect control over all of the vocal tonalities and the upper range of the string instruments in this first class recording. The bass section contributed to the overall sound with a rich and dynamic performance that had great depth without seeming strained. Even at high volumes, the overall sound remained precise and stable with a great dimensionality and enthusiasm.”

Conclusion
"Regarding the previous model, I already said, ‘It doesn’t get much better for the price.‘ [...] I will improve upon my own words, because the Ultima 40 Mk2 has become in every respect much more mature, precise, sensitive, and dynamic so that it’s simply much more fun. To upgrade this classic speaker costs just 50 Euros more than the previous model and the same applies without restriction: Buy!”

Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of AV-Magazin
Ultima 40 Mk2 (2017) review of AV-Magazin
"Sound quality, construction, and design are - considering the price - a minor sensation."
AV-Magazin 10/2012
"One only needs to listen for a few minutes for the new Ultima to prove its acoustic prowess. The bass is powerful, full, and has great depth, allowing the heavy bass lines from the US rapper XZibit to really come into their own. Teufel is able to prove that less expensive standing loudspeakers can exhibit an all-around accurate and clean sound with even the fine dynamic range in Gsutav Holst’s ‘The Planets.‘

The midrange drivers reproduce voices like soul legend Glady Knight with their full suppleness and power. The Ultime 40 Mk2 even manages to breathe life into even thin voices like that of Nelly Furtado. Respect!

The tweeters really shine in the upper ranges. The dome tweeter is a pleasure with a silky and detailed sound that is never intrusive or arch. In this way, it enriches music playback with a subtle and yet refreshing balance that allows the listener to completey forget that he or she is "only" listening to an inexpensive loudspeaker.”

Conclusion
"With the Ultima 40 Mk2, Teufel offers an all-around successfully designed loudspeaker. Sound quality, construction, and design are - considering the price - a minor sensation. Entrance to the world of high-end hifi has seldom been so affordable. Here at AV Magazine, that’s worthy of a ‘Highlight’ distinction.”

Help regarding this product
Do I need the same cable length for all speakers?
In our experience, there is no acoustical difference for different cable lengths for lengths up to 15 metres.
The RAMPA insert at the bottom of the speaker sometimes is turned out with the tamping screw. What can I do about that?
Unscrew the tamping screw from the Rampa insert and screw the Rampa insert back into the bottom of the speaker.
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
What is the advantage of bi-amping/bi-wiring?
Bi-amping means that the speaker can be operated by two amplifiers at the same time, or by a bi-amping-capable AV receiver. This enables the different chassis (for the treble mid-tone and bass range) to be individually supplied with one signal. Among other things, this could increase the sound performance of a speaker.

Bi-wiring states that the corresponding speaker can be controlled at the same time with two different speaker cables, meaning via separated input sockets for the treble and mid-tone range on one hand, and for the bass range of the frequency switch on the other. This could improve the sound even more. Bi-wiring is the prerequisite for bi-amping.
