Useful tips to set up your home cinema to the TV

You have to be smart when selecting your sound system. To ensure you get the best of your home cinema follow our for the optimal sound in your living room and to make sure that your device is right for your TV system. You can select between different style designs and colours to make sure that your system fits your room perfectly. We also have micro speakers, that let themselves be discreetly integrated into your home. So pay close attention to find the best speakers for your room.

  • The order of the speakers

Most cinema systems like our Columa or LT series consist of five loudspeakers and a subwoofer (wireless subwoofer also possible), which ensure a powerful bass, and hi-fi sound just like at the movies. That's why they're called 5.1 systems. The speakers should be placed so that the listener is sat directly in the middle of them to achieve the best audio impact. There is also a chance to upgrade your home cinema system with the possible variants:

  • Find the right speaker for every room

You might think in order to achieve cinema sound at home that you'll need to make space for a big, boisterous speaker package, however, get smart and learn how that doesn't have to be the case. There is a wide range of different sized setups and integration methods that all allow you to experience great home entertainment. If you're looking to save space, perhaps a system with in-ceiling or wall-mounted speakers could help you save space or a compactor system that still produces room-filling, cinema sound, such as our Concept E all-in-one system. We also have a great range of state-of-the-art, home theatre soundbar that offers that great surround experience that we love but in a more compact version. This is achieved via virtual surround sound, so not the real thing, but if you're more worried about saying space, a soundbar system could be better for your home. You can easily place them under the TV or if you'd like to place the TV directly on the audio device, then take a look at sounddecks. These audio beasties, are a little more robust than a soundbar and can therefore take the weight of the TV. You can always look into extending this audio experience by adding a subwoofer for a little more thump and bump.

  • Find a sound that fits your room

Another factor to consider to get the best sound experience is the size of the room. For rooms, up to 25m², a home cinema with Dolby Surround quality should be enough. For larger rooms, THX system may be worthwhile to really make sure the sound pervades. And don't worry about cables becoming booby traps, bigger options are also available with wireless speakers so you can enjoy a bigger sound without the need to pick up skipping. And don't worry the wireless transmission is just as good as that of its cabled relative.

Listening to music with your home cinema device

Good news - the fun doesn't stop with just great movie sound! Home cinema sound systems are so state-of-art that the Dolby Surround sound can also produce amazing audio playback when it comes to listening to your favourite music. The sound of a home cinema set can easily be distinguished from a stereo set purely in terms of acoustics. Nevertheless, it is also possible to listen to music via a 5.1 sound system, except that the sound is then theoretically heard from every direction to the same extent. Like a concert watched on DVD or Blu-ray, however, this can have definite advantages, because the musical instruments and other sounds come exactly from the direction where they are played and the subwoofer provides crisp low tones.

Extending your 5.1 home cinema

What? 5.1 isn't big enough? Fine! Whoever is on the hunt for the bigger sound also has the option to get their greedy hands on a 6.1 or 7.1 system - it even goes all the way up to 9.2 sets. But be smart, if you're getting this, expect us over at movie nights. With a different speaker configuration, the surround sound experience becomes even more impressive and cinematic. But be prepared to make space for the bigger systems! You can also extend your system with either an AV receiver or Blu-ray player to take things up a notch.

Take a read of our blog article to get a better picture of what to expect from a 5.1 or 7.1 system.

Scared of getting your cables tied? If you haven't yet purchased speakers for your home cinema because you are worried about an endless tangle of cables, you also have the choice of purchasing a (Blu-ray) complete system in which the sound signals are transmitted wirelessly. You could use the Teufel Rear Station, for example, to connect the rear speakers wirelessly to the set. With the large Teufel range, there is nothing to stop you from setting up a home cinema.
