The dipoles
The trapezoidal dipole speakers are equipped with 8 drivers in order to deliver powerful sound over a wide frequency range including two bass drivers to take care of the low frequencies. "For the past few years, Teufel’s Theater 10 has been considered the best home cinema loudspeaker system in Europe. But the THX market leader now has some competition – from the same manufacturer. With the System 10 THx Ultra2, Teufel wants to, once again, set a new benchmark. Born out of Star Wars, no other acronym in the speciality segment of home cinema is ranked higher than THX. Contrary to what many film fans think, it’s not just a sound format, but rather a sort of cinema and home theatre quality seal dating back to 1982. Back then, a young, up-and-coming film director names George Lucas contributed to the meticulousness of a unifying a quality standard for cinema. In order to be certified, the products need to meet certain standards with regard to linearity, power performance, depth and dispersion characteristics, to name just a few of the criteria. THX presently offers different standards for different requirements, budgets, and room size of which the THX Ultra2 represents the ultimate certification. In general, the directivity of the FCRs is considerably more to the fore and less to the sides which creates a very good result. The flexibility in the dispersion characteristic of the surround dipoles is equally beneficial, because along with supporting a diffuse cinema atmosphere or a localisation dependent on directionality, they are well integrated into the sound system. The subwoofer seems to dispatch with an inexhaustible deep frequency performance in the room, and thereby provides a rock-solid foundation for the system. Its sealed construction supports an expecially concise and powerful sound-scape. The set is therefore to be recommended as an ideal solution for fervent home cinema fans.
Assessment:
The System 10 is not only a visual highlight, but makes a powerful sonic impression. Those who have the requisite room size at their disposal will have a lot of fun with this surround set for a long time.

The dynamic bass playback is utterly impressive: Monster films like "Cloverfield“ unfold especially thrillingly with deep bass attacks that suddenly engulf the audience. If one takes the bass to its performance threshold, a full 116 decibels can be physically felt. Yet the subwoofer behaves with great restraint: The sealed cabinet doesn’t drone or crack. Only a soft swooshing noise streams through the amplifier’s cooling vent. The low levels of distortion in combination with extreme level reserves across the entire frequency range lead one to strain both ears and amplifier - so be careful!
Stereo sound quality
Whether soft or lukewarm, the character of the sound barely changes. Neither faults nor compression comprise the sound with increasing volumes. The subwoofer and satellites complement each other well: Well mixed songs like “Me and Armini” sound balanced, the acoustic differentiation of the bass is exceptional. Snare drums or the fortissimo of a Steinway grand piano in the higher octaves ring forth with a relaxed and highly dynamic sound.

Die Basswiedergabe war unglaublich gut: Richtig auf- und eingestellt, faszinierte der Subwoofer bereits bei niedrigen Pegeln mit seiner unaufdringlichen Art, sich am Sound-Geschehen zu beteiligen. Mit Kinotypischen LFE-Effekten und ab einer gewissen Lautstärke zeigte der Woofer jedoch unüberhörbar, was Sache ist - wie der Autor, nun breit grinsend, an seinen flatternden Hosenbeinen bemerkte. Ihre wahren Trümpfe konnte die Teufel-Anlage bei actiongeladenen Filmen ausspielen. [...] Das System 10 reagierte in allen Situationen mit einer beedinruckenden Dynamik, ohne dabei aufdringlich zu wirken. Krawall mit Kontrolle: Was Surround-Sets aus Hifi-Boxen meist an den Rand ihrer Fähigkeiten bringt, scheint dem THX-Set regelrecht Spaß zu machen.

"Die Heimkino-Session zeigte, welches ungeheure Potenzial in dem Teufel-Set System 10 THX Ultra 2 wirklich steckt. Die dynamischen Fähigkeiten konnten die Teufel-Boxen mit dem Erdbeben-Weltuntergangs-Drama "2012" bestens unter Beweis stellen. Das Spektakel ging im Test richtig unter die Haut: Wenn Häuser in Erdspalten fallen und zahlreiche Fahrzeuge auf Kollision gehen, dann hinterlässt das beim Publikum dank authentischer audiovisueller Darstellung einen bedrückenden und bleibenden Eindruck- und das ist ganz im Sinne der Filmemacher."
