AV-Receiver 5.1 null Corestation Teufel
An utterly inconspicuous system

The CoreStation is the only AV receiver on the market today that can be completely hidden from view just about anywhere. Requiring an area no bigger than an A4 sheet of paper, the CoreStation can be placed within a drawer or even mounted directly behind a television or lowboard. No matter where you decide to put it – even out of the line of sight – the included remote will be able to control the system.

360-Watt Class-D Texas Instruments amplifier

The CoreStation uses a premium amplifier from Texas Instruments for the highest level of performance along with the least amount of noise. Thrilling dynamics and the finest details are played back along a with a linear frequency response ranging from 20 to 40,000 Hz. So equipped, the CoreStation has no problem playing comparable AV receivers in the 700 Euro range against the wall.

In addition to its incredble performance values, the CoreStation boasts an innovative fanless construction. Our engineers in Berlin designed the system wth heat sinks instead of fans. This makes the CoreStation not only nearly noiseless when in operation, the absence of a mechanical cooling system is what allows for the CoreStation's compact dimensions.

FM radio and Bluetooth are also including making it easy to tune in to all your favorite podcasts as well as connect to the best music streaming services. Stream music from Spotify or YouTube from your smartphone or tablet to the CoreStation for clear and powerful playback.

The Varion can be placed anywhere
Lowboard, stands, wall or television

An optional high-end TV and loudspeaker bracket (VESA compatible) makes it possible to wall mount the satellites along with your TV as a single unit. Integrated keyhole brackets allow the satellite speakers to be directly wall mounted as well. In addition, the speakers can be placed on stands or on a lowboard, making the Varion Complete "2.1 Set" one of the most flexible home cinema systems on the market today.

Heimkino Microlautsprecher Varion
Inconspicuous setup, imposing sound

In spite of slender dimensions measuring just 7 cm across, the Varion offers everything you would expect of a full-fledged surround sound system.

  • - A 2-way system: The incoming audio signal is divided and sent to the drivers best designed to play it back.
  • - Seven drivers per speaker: Each speakers produces a full, rich and power-packed sound with excellent speech intelligibility, even at low volumes.
  • - High excursion drivers: Powerful and agile driver units produce high distortion-free levels.
  • - 19 mm tweeter. A large, centrally positioned tweeter reproduces voices and effects with a silk, soft sound that is never aggressive or shrill.
  • - D’Appolito Array: Centering the tweeter between three midrange drivers on each side results in a better, more even dispersion of the treble range.
  • - Broad sound dispersion: The wide angle of sound dispersion makes it possible for everyone in the room to enjoy thrilling sound.

All of the Varion speakers are identically constructed, an essential requirement for a truly harmonious and realistic surround sound. Experience helicopters or thunder pass overhead without any gaps in the well structured soundstage.

Neutral tuning accompanied by deep but realistic and well-integrated bass is perfectly suited for movie sound tracks but also makes the most out of gaming sound and music.

Varion Complete Streaming "5.1-Set" review of lite-magazin
Varion Complete Streaming "5.1-Set" review of lite-magazin
"Teufel once again pulled a series from up its sleeve capable of transforming the occasional movie watcher to a home cinema enthusiast within a short period of time."
lite-magazin 28.06.2016
“It couldn’t be more complete”

"From zero to 60: With the Varion range, Teufel once again pulled a series from up its sleeve capable of transforming the occasional movie watcher to a home cinema enthusiast within a short period of time. With the Blu-ray complete system, the Varion Impaq Streaming, as the flagship combination, there’s a bundle that not only offers fun with movies, but also an easy introduction to the exciting world of multi-room streaming. Sound good? It is! But that’s not all…”

“Since we already tested the Impaq 8000 Blu-ray receiver with the Cubycon ensemble, we got our hands on the same Blu-ray action film we used then, “John Wick” [...].”

"… when it comes to movie sound, it’s not just about making a lot of noise, but rather the creation of a realistic soundstage.”

"This is unquestionably what we experience with the Varion ensemble [...] The short bits of dialogue are crystal clear and the individual sonic details are even more precisely placed. For example, a gun hit out of a hand in a somewhat quiet setting can be acoustically localized exactly there where one would expect it based on the path of flight. Very precise work from both the contract killer on the screen as from the Teufel development team.”

"The oft-employed concept of listening pleasure is not adequate to the agile and passionate way with which the Varion speakers go about their business. All about us, the wheels seem to screech, paint is being scratched and shots fired. Muffled crashes are intermixed with grating collisions that are always precisely embedded in the voluminous soundstage. At the very latest, it becomes clear with the onset of rain at the showdown that the slender Varion speakers have no problem simulating a storm and that only a sprinkler system is missing in order to complete the illusion.”

“When it comes to music, the Varion naturally also shows what it’s made of […].”

"Above all, the 3-dimensional presentation is immediately apparent. In spite of the fact that the speakers are placed relatively close together, the front speakers open up a broad stage right away and supply [...] a great deal of space for the sound to develop.”

Conclusion:

"Versatile, attractive and talented [...]. Teufel sets a high standard with these diverse Varion combinations and succeeds in applying merciless pressure on the competition.”

"It’s barely possible to fault the sound produced by the slender speakers."
Area DVD 29.06.2016
Music: "The Sun Always Shines on TV“

"The voices separated themselves well from the centre speaker and had clear contours. Once the song really got going, the clear, well-defined sound was impressive. The Varion set doesn’t produce a cheap “fun sound,” but rather plays in a manner that is serious and complete. The treble range has an impressive 3-dimensionality, comes across as truly free and transparent and is well-integrated with the midrange. The separation of voices and instruments also hardly offer any points for criticism. The synthesizer, the drums as well as the electric guitars are charismatically presented. Morten’s voice is successfully emphasized without pushing the instruments into the background. The US 2106/ delivers a precise and credible bass that isn’t artificially "pumped up.“

"The focus on the vocal elements is successfully achieved in a masterful manner and yet the instrumental sections are not subordinated. The spatial depth is convincing, the processing of details as well as the definition is excellent for such a set.”

Film: "Batman, The Dark Knight“ in Dolby TrueHD

"The shots in the bank’s spacious service area are very forceful, the echoes, conditioned by their environment, are convincingly produced. The opening of the door to the vault and the use of the special drill on the massive vault door are wonderfully accentuated.”

"The front-surround transitions are cleanly balanced, a very good 3-dimensional expansiveness and a precise localization of small as well as larger effects and effect combinations confirmed the following for us: The Varion 5.1 set can be recommended for challenging tasks like the highly differentiated playback of movie sound at high volumes.”

“Even in movie sequences in which suspense is built up but in which larger effects are missing, the test ensemble maintained a sensitive, atmospheric and well executed soundstage.”

2.1 Mode: "California Dreamin‘“ by Diana Krall:

"And we’ve concluded that the collaboration with the US 2016/1 works very well, even in 2.1 mode. We liked the well-rounded and at the same time clear and direct soundstage. The resolution is immaculate for such a set […].“

"It’s surprising how good the voices separated from the speakers and distributed themselves in the listening room. We really liked the Varion speakers’ and the active subwoofer’s free, unforced playback.”

Conclusion:

"Chic and powerful loudspeakers with flexible placement options, perfect for the present day. It’s barely possible to fault the sound produced by the slender speakers. With very good definition, excellent speech intelligibility and flawless power handling, it’s possible to enjoy music and movies even at high volumes at an astonishingly dynamic and cultivated level. The exceptionally good quality is not only evident in multi-channel playback, used as a 2.1 system, the presentation of stereo material is always comprehensive. That the Varion is offered in many sets, including complete, plug-&-play bundles, is to be praised as this makes it possible for everyone to find the perfect system. From a 2.1 set to 5.1 streaming ensembles with the Raumfeld Connector and Impaq Blu-ray receiver, everything is on offer. The prices are completely reasonable […].“

Note: The test report corresponds to the Varion 5.1 set.

"...extremely lively and complex"
lowbeats.de 28.06.2016
Television:

"The TV presenter Jens Riwa was perfectly understandable, and even documentaries with only limited Hi-Fi sound sounded extremely lively and complex."

Musik:

"It revealed fine details in recordings and reproduced the voice of Metallica frontman James Hetfield with just the right amount of grain. The Teufel set also had another positive feature when playing the Metallica tracks: the levels are really well balanced."

Conclusion:

"We didn't find any real flaws in the Teufel Varion."

"They were created to improve the quality of television sound for a good price. This is really impressive. The bright sound of the set is not ideal for classical music, but is absolutely ideal for the probable range of use. Thanks to its design, the system is also good for use not only in living rooms and bedrooms, but also in shops. The variability (2.1 or 5.1) is just as great as the practical and robust design. A range of matching accessories makes the Varion package even more flexible and attractive."

"With the Raumfeld Connector², the Berliners have a network audio player in their product portfolio […] that unites two worlds: The worlds of hi-fi systems and that of music from the internet.”

"Due to the use of a Cirrus Logic D/A converter chip, the quality of the analog output is very satisfactory. The bass that is delivered to the amplifier is rich and the treble thoroughly nuanced, the stereo image is detailed and is a lot of fun to listen to.”

Varion Complete Streaming "5.1-Set" review of The HB Project
Raumfeld Connector
Varion Complete Streaming "5.1-Set" review of The HB Project
"I really love the way all kinds of info and settings are accessible from the main screen."
The HB Project 09/2015
Setting up

"Setup is really easy: start up the Raumfeld app and follow the instructions on screen. When that routine is finished you add one or more network shares that hold your music. You just select from a list of (possible) sources. Shown are computers that hold shared volumes or DLNA services."

The app

"Pressing the play button next to her name starts playing all her albums but you can also select one album or one track. Along the top of this window you can choose for sorting on album, genres, favorites, composers, recently added, by folder and on track. Tapping the left top corner of the album art shows the playlist, tap the center and the technical data of the music file are showed. Under the transport functions music zones can be activated, grouped and deactivated. The volume knob in the lower right corner also has a fold out menu for tone and balance control. Other sources are selected in the top row, where TuneIn offers plenty internet radio stations and subscription services as Tidal, WIMP, Spotify and Napster by Rhapsody. You can select the line input on any Raumfeld device in your system and play it on the same or any other Raumfeld device. I once said that any remote app for music players works just as fine, you just have to get used to it. The Raumfeld app proved me wrong. I really love the way all kinds of info and settings are accessible from the main screen. And that's even more than I have described here. The app isn’t as solidly robust as that of Sonos or Bluesound, it for instance jumps back to the home screen after short connection losses that occur from time to time. That doesn’t stop me from calling it my personal favorite but please do notice the word personal, for judging user interfaces always is a personal matter."

To sum up

"Comparison with the Squeezebox might seem odd, but it’s still popular despite being out of production for years and there still is an active second hand market. Replacing it with the Connector 2 might be interesting if you have a large music collection or if you want to play 24 bit 192 kHz files. The Logitech Media Server that provides Logitech devices with music is rather slow with large music collections, which is not the case with the Connector. Compared to the Sonos Connect it offers far more memory for storing the music catalogue and 24 bit 192 kHz playback at half the price. So if you have a stereo at or below the quality of my Set 3, the Teufel Raumfeld Connector 2 offers decent quality at a very low price."

In addition, it has an optical digital output as well as an analog stereo cinch connection and a line input with a sensitivity that can be regulated per software (app), a LAN interface, and USB port. [...] The on and off switch is located in an easy-to-reach position on the top  [...].

Setup and operation of the Raumfeld Connector can be executed via an optional remote control (Raumfeld Controller) or free app for mobile operating systems Android and iOS.

[...] As soon  [...] as the setup assistant is finished, it’s easy to play music from USB storage devices and DLNA servers, accessible computers, and music services like TuneIn, Napster, Simfy, or Last.fm. The current firmware can even handle extremely large music libraries (150,000 files) on network drives and USB devices. As one would expect from a high-end network player, high resolution audio files and gapless playback is supported.

Conclusion
The Raumfeld Connector is the perfect partner for systems lacking their own network functionality. The setup is quickly mastered, operating the device is simple, and the sound impressive."

"Those who are not just looking at comfort when it comes to multiroom, but maximum sound quality as well should take a closer look at Raumfeld."
Smart Homes 06/2013
"Raumfeld - the name already sounds superior. [...] Three different stereo speaker systems, a one speaker solution and – last, but not least – the Raumfeld Connector for connecting an existing hi-fi system combine to create a product range that just about satisfies every requirement. All components communicate with each other via accessible WLAN through which they also have access to music libraries available in the network [...]. In addition, Raumfeld naturally has command of Internet radio and various streaming services [...].”

Conclusion

"Those who are not just looking at comfort when it comes to multiroom, but maximum sound quality as well should take a closer look at Raumfeld. The system plays nearly all file formats, including many lossless and high resolution varieties, and therefore guarantees maximum music enjoyment with minimum cabling effort.”

“It’s fast, easy to operate, sounds good, and is inexpensive to boot."
Hifi Digital 03/2013
“Teufel sells its miniature network player for a mere 200 Euros. In exchange, one gets an astonishing array of music possibilities as well as an alluring and extensive introduction into the world of Raumfeld. One namely has the ability to use the Connector 2 in combination with other network players from this manufacturer to build a multiroom connection [...] At first glance, the newcomer appears to be hardly different from its predecessor. The enclosure, however, is compacter. The reason for this is quickly ascertained: The WLAN antenna which was located on the back of the original Connector has been discreetly relocated in the interior of the enclosure. This change earns the new model high marks for style.”

“The basic structure of the network player hasn’t been changed by Teufel: The streamer plays music from UPnP or DLNA certified network servers along with NAS drives as well as the music library from any PC with Windows. It’s even capable of supporting sound formats [...] from USB storage devices connected to the back. Those who require more can tune in to tens of thousands of internet radio stations via the TuneIn service or can log in to his simfy or Napster account or make use of the analogue input. Should one possess more than one Raumfeld device, these signals can be streamed into other rooms. Unlike that first Connector, the new model can process a full 192 kilohertz.”

Conclusion

“It’s fast, easy to operate, sounds good and is inexpensive to boot. With the new Connector 2, Raumfeld gains ground on its main competitors.”

"Flexible to use and strong on sound – the ultra compact Connector2 delivers on all counts."
Area DVD 07.06.2013
"The Connector2 can be integrated into networks with or without a cable. The cable connection is very simple. One simply inserts the appropriate network cable into the corresponding interface on the device and the Connector will be connected to the home network. [...]
If the Connector is connected to the Wi-Fi, it must be added as a ‘new room.’ For the setup, an Ethernet cable must be attached to the Connector, following which the Raumfeld App can be added. The router password must also be entered. The automated configuration for the Wi-Fi will follow, after which the LAN cable can be disconnected and the Connector2 will be wirelessly connected to the network.”

"The Connector plays MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG and Apple Lossless. A 192 kHz sampling rate is supported which makes the Connector2 compatible with high-resolution audio files. [...] The Connector creates an impressive-sounding playback with 192 kHz FLAC pieces such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s violin concert (SL Recording) in D minor. The details, clarity, and dimensionality are highly pronounced. The violins as the primary carriers of the song sound brilliant without having too sharp a tone. Even the complex piece ‘La Mer’ by Claude Debussy was captured in a very multifaceted way, including the many small dynamic differences which were accurately produced. The 96 kHz FLAC piece ‘Stop This World’ by Diana Krall has a lively, emphatic quality with a taut bass that is well differentiated in the listening room. Dianas’ voice has a smokey undertone, giving it a charismatic quality.

Depending on how good the D/A converter in one’s amplifier/receiver is, it’s possible to access the digital connection if this is available. In any case, we recommend a listening test before deciding on an analog or digital connection. Especially with older or inexpensive amplifiers/receivers, the use of the Connector’s very good D/A converter can be the better option. Even when bitstreams are transmitted from Internet radio platforms (TuneIn), the Connector ensures a lively, dimensionally rich sound with a high degree of clarity. The reliability of the transmission is very high. It doesn’t matter whether it’s connected to a LAN or Wi-Fi – interruptions are almost never discerned. This is true for the reproduction of Internet music streams as well as sound files from PCs or servers.”

Conclusion

"All told, Teufel offers a highly polished solution that can make hifi systems and older surround receivers fit for the era of modern media. With the exception of Spotify, all relevant music services are integrated and it’s easy to add music resources from PCs, servers, and USB storage devices. Playlists are quickly set up and can then be easily accessed. A free app enables simple handling so that even less experienced users can quickly and easily figure it out. The Connector2 can be connected to the network either with a cable or wirelessly. No Wi-Fi antenna intrudes upon the compact enclosure. The sound that the very compact and therefore easily accommodated Connector makes available is excellent and corresponds with Raumfeld’s claim to offer first-class streaming quality.

Flexible to use and strong on sound – the ultra compact Connector2 delivers on all counts."

"The Raumfeld Connector 2 is so simple to set up and sounds so good that anyone can expect to derive immediate and long-lasting enjoyment from it.”
hifi-test.de 30.08.2013
“The streaming division of Teufel Audio has been around for just three years. Their product range extends from streaming loudspeakers and small routers to NAS systems and controllers – in other words, the whole streaming program. The new Connector 2 extends the existing hi-fi range to include smart streaming abilities.”

“The Berlin loudspeaker manufacturers and home cinema experts Teufel acquired a highly competent team with Raumfeld GmbH [...]. Since then, smart active speakers with integrated streaming and components that enable an expanded and user-friendly music network have been produced. One thing should be made clear: With respect to network stability, Raumfeld components are ahead of the pack.”

“While many still shy away from networks, IPs, or UPnP servers, there’s no talk of that here. It doesn’t matter what network structure you have at home or where your music is stored. This little box is like an additional player for your system and can be attached via cinch cable or digital Toslink. The network connection is made via LAN or Wi-Fi. [...] Set up is child’s play. All connectors, Raumfeld streaming speakers, and UPnP devices in the network can be configured via the app and then made available to existing music archives.”

“Thanks to the very best Cirrus Logic converter, the sound streamed by the connector is truly amazing. Every type of music is played clearly with fine resolution and solid, highly accurate dimensionality. Another device in this or an even higher price class has yet to reproduce this quality. One thing’s for sure: The Raumfeld system was and remains the most stable and flexible solution for network streaming out there.”

Conclusion
“Whoever’s considering streaming, but is afraid to commit no longer has an excuse. The Raumfeld Connector 2 is so simple to set up and sounds so good that anyone can expect to derive immediate and long-lasting enjoyment from it.”

Help regarding this product
Do I also have a 6.1/7.1 playback for a 5.1 recording?
Usually, all 6.1/7.1 AV Receivers can generate a 6.1/7.1 playback from a 5.1 recording. The procedure is comparable with the Dolby Pro Logic Decoder, which generates a matrix circuit from the stereo signal of a centre channel.

The AV Receivers thus generate a rear centre channel from the rear R/L channels of a 5.1 recording through the matrix circuit. The stronger the rear R/L effects on the DVD, the stronger the signal from the rear centre.
Can I connect the LT 4 directly to a DVD player or PC?
No.

The LT 4 is a partially active system that requires AV receiver operation. It has a built-in amplifier that only supplies bass tones in the subwoofer housing That is why an "AV Receiver", i.e. a combination of radio receiver and multichannel amplifier, is essential for using the LT 4.

The subwoofer is connected from the Line In R input to the AV receiver's sub out jack using a mono RCA cable, while the three front satellites are connected to the three speaker outputs of the AV Receiver using the speaker cable and are supplied with power from there.

Connect signal-emitting source appliances such as DVD player or PC etc. directly to the corresponding input jacks on the AV Receiver.
When would it be worth upgrading my 5.1 system to 6.1/7.1 sound?
Naturally 5.1 channel systems that play back all of the sound tracks contained on the DVDs already offer an excellent home cinema experience.

For the new 6.1 or 7.1 sound formats, a rear centre channel is controlled in addition to these channels. This channel, coded in the stereo effect channels, enables the better positioning of effects and music signals directly behind where you are sitting.

If using two speakers for the rear centre channel, the optimal seating position is not tailored to an individually specified position, i.e. you don't have to be seated in the exact centre.

In the following cases we would recommend upgrading to a 6.1 or 7.1 system:

• Your sitting position is not always dead centre, or you often have several viewers

• You have had a 5.1 system for a very long time and would like an improvement

• Your AV amplifier/receiver is designed as a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver and offers the corresponding connection possibilities

• You can also set up one and/or two rear centres. If you are currently building/renovating your house or flat, we would recommend you lay the cables for the additional rear centre channels in any case.

• Modern BluRay players usually issue a true 7.1 surround sound signal at all digital outputs and are thus optimally suitable - presuming the relevant AV Receiver - as a signal transmitter for a 7.1 channel home cinema system.
How do I upgrade my system to a 6.1 or 7.1 sound format?
The choice of speaker(s) depends on the AV Receiver/amplifier. This has an additional power amplifier for one rear centre (6.1) or its two (7.1). You can easily see this by the wattage (e.g. 6 x 100 watt or 7 x 100 watt). To the existing (side) rear speakers for right/left (5.1 technology), one or two additional rear centres are utilised in addition (6.1 or 7.1 technology).

• My AV amplifier/receiver has six connections/power amplifiers (6.1):

In this case we recommend connecting the same centre at the rear that you also used in the front area.

• My AV amplifier/receiver has 7 connections/power amplifiers (7.1):

If you already use dipoles or direct emitters for your 5.1 system, then you have a choice of either supplementing two more dipoles or two direct emitters. For wall assembly and a short distance from the seating location to the rear wall (less than 1.00 metres), we would recommend dipoles. As soon as you want to set up the speakers on bases or on a shelf, then direct emitters would be the better choice.

Information:
Even if the AV Receiver/amplifier only has the connection and power amplifier performance for one rear centre, it is still possible to connect two instead of just one speaker through series connection.

Exception:
• The AV amplifier/receiver has seven connections/power amplifiers, but I can only set up one rear centre. As the 7.1 AV amplifiers/receiver also offer the option of operating just one of the two outputs (usually can be set in the speaker set-up!), you can also only connect just one rear centre.

Here we recommend connecting the same centre to the rear that you also used in the front area. For short distances to the listening location (less than 1.00 metres), a dipole would be the better choice - especially if you are also using dipoles at the sides.
Is it a problem if the speakers are at different distances to where you are sitting?
Since the distance and volume of every individual speaker can be adjusted for the digital home cinema receivers, asymmetrical set-ups can be easily compensated.
How do I equalise my home cinema system with the help of a sound level meter?
Take the level meter with you to the listening position and point the measuring device directly towards the front centre speaker. Now start the sound generator of the receiver (or of the sound card or DVD player) and equalise all speakers in succession to the same level.

The position and alignment of the measuring device should not be changed during this procedure. For a Teufel sound level meter, proceed as detailed in the following:

1. Remove the protective tab from the battery.

2. Set the weighting to "A" - only the "A" position considers the full frequency range during measuring!

3. Set the response to Slow.

4. Set the Range to 70.

5. Start the test noise from your AV device.

6. Change the volume for every individual channel at the AV device so that the level meter shows 75 dB (meaning between +4 and +6).

7. Done!
What is the difference between the 5.1 and 7.1 configuration?
Compared with the 5.1 set, the 7.1 set has two extra speakers for the back rear centre channel.

The 5.1 channel set plays back all sound tracks on DVDs/Blu-rays and creates an excellent home cinema experience.

With the 7.1 sound format, a rear centre channel is also generated in addition to these channels and distributed to two further speakers (the "rear centre"). This channel, which is encoded in the stereo effects channels, allows better location of effects and music signals directly behind the sitting position.

If you use two speakers for the rear centre channel (i.e. installed 7.1 set), the optimum sitting position is not restricted to one specific place, so you don't have to be sitting exactly in the middle and several listeners can enjoy the best sound.
Where is the optimal place for the centre of my Lautsprecher Teufel Surround System in a 5.1/6.1/7.1 configuration?
Because the centre plays back spoken dialogue, this speaker must be positioned as centrally as possible under or over the TV/monitor or the screen.

If the centre is placed outside the area of 40 centimetres to 1.20 meter height, it should be slightly inclined or angled towards the listener.

My devices' wireless signal is permanently low or breaks down frequently
To gain an overview over the signal strength of each Raumfeld devices in your network, open Settings > Network > Network Analysis.

A Loss of WLAN Signal

The constant loss of a device's Wlan signal even at high signal strength is due to interferences with other wireless networks. By changing the Wlan channel, you eliminate this interference and can fix this issue. Should your system contain a Raumfeld Base simply try out different channels as described in the online manual (Modifying of the Channel Setting (Raumfeld Base)) and see if the signal strength becomes steady. Access points from other manufacturers usually offer an according configuration option in their administration interface.

Alternatively you may contact our service team, which is happy to assist you with the detection of the best channel available.

B Constant Low Signal Strength

If the signal strength of individual wireless devices is constantly beneath 50%, steps should be taken to upgrade the Wlan reception of the device and therewith the music playback reliability. In most cases it is sufficient to reduce the distance or the number of obstacles between your Raumfeld Base and your playback device. Simply check out if the reception increases when positioning the devices at different places.

In general, the less walls and ceilings between the devices, the better the reception is. Thick walls made from concrete or clay brick will especially abate the signal. Often a relocation of a few centimeters is enough to bypass any problems.

Mind the following advice that accounts for both, systems with Raumfeld Base or systems that are run with an access point from another manufacturer:

  • Position the Raumfeld Base or the third party access point you utilise rather high up, on a cupboard for example. Make sure there's some space towards the wall. Do not position the device on the floor or in a corner.
  • If you make use of a wireless phone there may be interferences with the wlan signal. Therefore, do not position the Base or the third party access point you utilise right next to the phone's base station.
  • Set up the devices in a way that ensures there are a minimum amount of obstacles inbetween your access point and the playback device. Avoid setting up the Raumfeld devices in alcoves or behind prominent corners.
  • Make sure there are no large-scale metal bodies between the access point and playback devices (e.g. radiators or fridges)
  • Large plants may also block the signal due to their moisture content and should not be between the access point and playback devices.
If the reception does not increase after a repositioning we suggest using a standard Wlan repeater or to connect single components of your Raumfeld system with your existing wireless access point (see Connecting of your Raumfeld devices with your personal access point in the online manual). Please contact our service team to find the perfect solution for you.
I’m only able to access the Raumfeld Zones under “available devices“ in my Spotify App. How can I control the individual rooms?
Deactivate the Multiroom Mode for Spotify in the Raumfeld App by switching to the "off“ setting. You will then be able to individually control each device in the Spotify App.
The individual titles of my compilations are each displayed as their own album
Compilations or soundtracks are normally composed of various artists. In order to display them as a complete album, the tracks of a compilation must be grouped.

There are many different methods of accomplishing this, assuming that the same album name, or Album Tag, is assigned to all tracks.
  • Assign the name of the compilation's producer to the tag Album Artist. Use "Various Artists" if the producer's name is unknown.
  • If you use iTunes, you may select for every song that they are Part of a Compilation under Get Info > Info.
  • As long as the album is stored locally on the Raumfeld Base, a network drive or USB storage, it is sufficient to simply save the music files in the same folder. Make sure, however, that only music files pertaining to the compilation are stored within this folder.
In order to edit your music collection's tags, we recommend the following programs:

Media Players
  • iTunes (Windows, Mac OS; only supports MP3, AAC, M4A, Apple Lossless)
  • Windows Media Player (Windows; only supports MP3, WMA)
  • Winamp (Windows; supports the same formats as Raumfeld except for WMA, WAV)
Special Tag-Editors
  • MP3-Tag (Windows; supports the same formats as Raumfeld except for WAV)
  • MusicBrainz Picard (Windows, Mac OS, Linux; supports the same formats as Raumfeld except for WAV)
Teufel Streaming (Raumfeld) basics
Would you like to get a comprehensive overview about the possibilities of Teufel Streaming systems? Our Teufel Streaming manual informs you about the basics, operation and integration of music resources. Find out more in the Teufel Streaming handbook: https://manual.teufel.de
I have no more access to the internet radio directory TuneIn in my Teufel Raumfeld app. What could be the reason?
For the further use of the radio service TuneIn, a software update may be required. The update is free of charge and only takes a few minutes. The software can easily be checked and updated:
  1. Start up all devices and opening the Teufel Raumfeld App.
  2. The main menu can now be called up on the app screen by briefly swiping to the right.
  3. First select "Settings" in the main menu, then menu item "System maintenance" and finally "Updates". By simply tapping on the "Check for updates" button, the device will automatically start to search for and download the latest version.
  4. After the download is complete, the update can be re-started by pressing the button again. This takes a maximum of about 3-5 minutes. Afterwards, TuneIn can be used again as usual.
I copied new music to a network share. Why isn't it displayed under My Music?
When you copy new music to a network share you have to manually initiate a rescan in order to see the music on your Controller or in the Raumfeld App, respectively.

In order to do so, go to My Music > Recently Added and tap the button "Update music index" on bottom of the list. Alternatively, visit Settings > Music Resources and activate a scan for new music on the music resource you've copied the music to.

Under Settings > Music Resources there is also an option to make your Raumfeld System check for new music every day. A manual scan is then not necessarily required.
Can different music (Multicast) be played in different rooms?
Multicast (different music in different rooms) is possible with Spotify, but not simultaneously. Due to certain restrictions stipulated by the provider, simultaneous multicast is not possible at the present time.
I use a version 6.0 Android device and am trying to set up my Wi-Fi streaming system. The setup assistant, however, does not continue after the initial screen. How can I proceed?
Make sure that your smart device is signed in to your home WiFi – the same WiFi network you plan to use with your Wi-Fi streaming system. If you are already signed in to your WiFi network, deactivate your smart device’s access to mobile internet for the duration of the setup.
I use an Android device version 6.0 or higher. The music I stream directly from this device drops after a short time. What could be the reason for this?
One reason could be that your smart device is going into standby mode and dropping the connection.

Solution: Add the Teufel Raumfeld app to your standby exception list, also known as your device’s “whitelist.” To do this, go to “Settings” in your Android menu and then “Apps,” “Advanced,” “Battery optimization,” “All apps” and “Raumfeld.”
I can find settings for my subwoofer in the Teufel Raumfeld app. What are these for?
The menu items "subwoofer volume" and "subwoofer crossover frequency" are only stored in the app menu under "room settings" if a Teufel Streaming soundbar is operated over the same Wi-Fi connection. With a soundbar/subwoofer combination, the sound signal is "distributed" to the devices, i.e. the sounbar outputs the higher frequencies and the subwoofer, the lower ones. This signal distribution is defined under the menu item "subwoofer crossover frequency". Installation tips:
  • Leave the crossover frequency on the default setting if you are satisfied with the sound or if the Teufel Streaming subwoofer is located close to the soundbar (recommended).
  • If the subwoofer is placed at the side or at the back of the room, it is possible that the overall sound may no longer be harmonious. In this case, try changing the crossover frequency in the app until you are satisfied with the sound.
  • If, for example, the sound image of the soundbar is too thin, reduce the crossover frequency. If the bass sounds too flat, increase the crossover frequency.
  • You can also adjust the subwoofer volume separately.

Can I use my home cinema with the Teufel Streaming system?
In order to use your home cinema system with your Teufel Streaming system you require a Connector:
  • Connect the analogue or digital output of the Connector to an appropriate input of your home cinema amplifier
  • Connect an analogue output of your amplifier to the analogue input of the Connector
This will allow you:
  • to listen to music from your Teufel Streaming system via your home cinema system
  • to stream the audio signal of TV series or movies into other rooms of your house
Please note that there will be a short delay between video and audio signal when you stream it into other rooms. If you choose to play the audio signal via your home cinema system only, audio playback is of course in perfect sync with the video signal.

Do I need to be experienced with technology (Wi-Fi, SSID, WEP, computers, Internet, programming)?
Knowledge about wireless networks or computer technology is not necessary for setting up or using the Teufel Streaming systems. New devices are added to the system simply at the touch of a button.
I want to save a Chromecast stream on the direct selection keys (not applicable to all devices). How can I do this?
For technical reasons, it is not possible to store Chromecast streams on the direct selection keys.
Ich streame Musik direkt aus dem Chrome-Browser. Die Wiedergabe ist jedoch manchmal verzerrt oder setzt kurz aus. Was kann ich dagegen machen?
The most frequent cause of distortion and drops in playback is insufficiently fast data transfers from the PC to the WiFi speaker. Data transfer rates can be affected by the WiFi router and the internet connection. We recommend enhancing the performance by increasing the WiFi signal strength in the vicinity of your PC and speaker.
The Teufel Raumfeld app setup wizard does not find a device after pressing the setup key on the back of the device. The display shows "Searching for device..." or "No device found". What can I do?
There are many reasons why a Teufel Streaming device may not be found during setup, i.e. when the app displays the notifications "Searching for device“ or "Not found”. The following will cover the most likely causes as well as possible solutions.

1) It’s possible that your home Wi-Fi is unable to recognise the device due to certain settings on your Wi-Fi router.

Solution: You can enable your Wi-Fi to recognise the device by directly connecting the Teufel Streaming device to your router via Ethernet cable and repeating the setup process.

2) Other active network devices may prevent your Wi-Fi router from recognising the device. Solution: Deactivate all devices (such as smart TVs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, AV receivers, media servers) that use your LAN or Wi-Fi network for the duration of the Teufel Streaming setup process. Before beginning a new setup process, be sure to restart your Wi-Fi router and complete the setup using a single smartphone.

3) The use of switches, repeaters and additional access points within your home Wi-Fi network can hinder device recognition. Solution: Either restart all additional network devices or turn off these devices for the duration of the setup process.

4) If you use a cordless phone over a landline (DECT) and have this phone in the vicinity of your router or Teufel Streaming device, it may be disrupting your Wi-Fi signal. This is because both DECT and Wi-Fi use the same 2.4 GHz signal.

Solution: Relocate your DECT base station or switch off your DECT telephone for the duration of the setup process.
The Teufel Raumfeld app indicates an error after selecting the Wi-Fi and entering the network key (Wi-Fi password). What could be the reason for this?
If you're using a smart device with the Android operating system version 5.X (Lollipop), the problem could caused by two possible smart device settings:

1) The setting "Smart network change" switches the smart device to the mobile network whenever the WiFi signal becomes too weak. Since Teufel Streaming requires a continuous Wi-Fi connection, this setting cannot be used.

2) The "Auto IP Support" function determines when the home Wi-Fi network does not support DHCP (the automatic assignation of a network address). Although a very useful feature, Auto IP Support cannot be used with the Teufel Streaming system. This is because Teufel Streaming devices need to be assigned an IP from the router in order to independently communicate with the home network and internet.

Solution: The Android functions "Smart network change" and "Auto IP Support" should be deactivated. Next, ensure that your router allows for DHCP and then repeat the setup process.
Die Teufel Raumfeld App zeigt einen "Hoppla"-Hinweis unmittelbar nach der Raumnamen-Vergabe. Im Display steht "Gerät wird konfiguriert". Woran kann dies liegen?
Other devices in your WiFi network may be preventing the Setup Assistant from completing the setup process.

Solution: Deactivate all devices (such as smart TVs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, AV receivers, media servers) that use your LAN or WiFi network for the duration of the setup process. Before beginning a new setup process, be sure to restart your WiFi router and complete the setup using a single smartphone.

Please note that the processes carried out during the notification "Configuring device..." may take a few minutes to complete. We therefore ask for patience in order to ensure that the setup is indeed experiencing difficulty completing and that your smartphone does not go into standby mode.
Während der Einrichtung muss das WLAN-Passwort eingeben werden, damit Ihre Geräte im Heimnetzwerk angemeldet werden können. Was kann ich machen?
Check that the password you entered is still current. Make sure that you are not using the password for your SIM card, Google account, music service or other account. Teufel Streaming requires the password for your home WiFi. This is sometimes also called the "network key".

Tip I: You'll often find your WiFi password / network key on the back of your WiFi router. As long as this password has not been changed, it should still be valid.

Tip II: The auto correct function in your smart device may be changing the characters you enter. We therefore recommend switching off this auto correct function.
During setup, the Wi-Fi network via which the system is to be integrated in the future must be selected in the app. However, my home network is not listed in the selection list. What could be the reason?
The following are a few reasons why your Wi-Fi network may not appear in the list presented in the app:

1) If the signal strength of your Wi-Fi network is only 30% or less where you are holding your phone, it will not appear. Since the system requires a signal strength greater than 30% in order to function without drops in playback, only networks that offer this minimum signal strength will be displayed.

Solution: Increase the signal strength of your Wi-Fi signal and/or find a better place for your device.

2) It’s technically possible to hide a Wi-Fi network. This option is usually offered in a Wi-Fi router’s settings. If you’ve selected this setting option, your home network will not be displayed within the app.

Solution: Make sure that the Wi-Fi is set to "visible“.
Während der Einrichtung zeigt die App die Meldung "Router inkompatibel" an. Woran kann das liegen?
There can be many reasons for the notification "Wi-Fi router is incompatible”. The most common reasons for this notification have to do with router configurations affecting your home WiFi which can be changed. The following are the most common WiFi settings that may be the cause:

1) The function DHCP (the automatic assignment of a network address) is not switched on. This prevents the Raumefld device from registering with the home WiFi network.

Solution: Activate the DHCP function in your home WiFi router’s settings. Tip: Some manufacturers list DHCP as a feature with names like “Reject unknown devices”. Contact the manufacturer of your router if you are unsure what this feature is called.

2) A so-called Mac filter is switched on in your router. This filter prevents the registration of unknown devices which includes all devices not already using the WiFi network.

Solution: Deactivate the Mac filter for the duration of the setup process or add your device to the router’s list of known devices. Note: Some manufacturers refer to the Mac filter with names like "Only allow known devices.“ Contact the manufacturer of your router if you are unsure what this feature is called.

3) The router is blocking direct communication (the exchange of data) between two or more devices connected to the same WiFi network. Known as “client isolation,” this setting is often preconfigured, especially with guest network access.

It requires direct communication in order to receive information (such as when you press "play“) from your smartphone. The client isolation setting is often overlooked as it does not prevent a device from accessing the internet.

Solution: Do not use a guest WiFi access for your device; deactivate the client isolation feature.

Note: Some manufacturers refer to client isolation under different names. It may also be a preconfigured part of a security level you have chosen for your WiFi network. Contact the manufacturer of your router for more information.
My Bluetooth speaker produces a lesser quality sound with my Windows PC or laptop.
It could be that the speaker is connected as a device with speakerphone function. Please go to: settings menu > devices and printer > BOOMSTER (or other Bluetooth device). Right click on the device and remove the check mark next to the “speakerphone” option.
Can I order the Teufel speakers in different colours than those offered?
To realise the very reasonable sales prices usual for Teufel, it is not possible to offer the speakers in a multitude of housing designs.

This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.

A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
Which cables do I need to connect a Teufel speaker set to the AV Receiver?
A home cinema system needs speaker cables to connect the satellite speakers to the receivers, and an NF mono RCA cable to connect the active subwoofer to the sub out socket of the AV Receiver.
When can I use the rear speakers as direct speakers?
If you aren't able to position the speakers close to the wall as described above, you should use the them as direct speakers. For this purpose the rear switch should be tipped outwards. For use as direct speakers, the rear boxes should be set up to the left and right of the listening position - ideally at the same height, e.g. on a shelf or preferably on a base. If the speakers have to be set up so that they are much higher or lower, it may be advisable to align them to the listening point. For wall mounting it is best to use wall brackets that allow for vertical movement. When using the speakers in direct speaker mode, we recommend that the distance between the two rear speakers exceeds the listening position by 1m. But if you (have to) sit closer, please make sure that the front of the speaker is not pointing directly at you; instead, angle the speakers more into the room.
How can I install software updates?
All Raumfeld devices regularly connect to the Raumfeld update service to look for updated software versions. If updates are available you can easily install them at the push of a button.

Hence your components keep up to date and you can benefit from advancements in the latest software releases.

Since Raumfeld software version 1.3 it is also possible to install updates via a USB stick. This enables you to apply updates without an internet connection.

Of course we also provide continuous updates of the Raumfeld App for your smartphone. These updates are distributed via your smartphone's app store.
My USB storage is not recognised
Connected to the Raumfeld Base
When USB storage is attached to the Base your Raumfeld system will automatically begin to scan for new music. You can follow the scan progress under Settings > Music Resources. The following are possible causes as to why your USB storage may not be automatically found:

A) The file system of the disk may not be compatible. We support the following formats:

  • FAT16 / FAT32
  • NTFS
  • HFS / HFS+
  • EXT2 / EXT3 / EXT4

B) We seldomly have had reports of issues with USB 1.0 devices. We therefore recommend using devices that support USB 2.0.

Connected to a Raumfeld Speaker or Connector (System without Raumfeld Base)
USB storage that has been connected to a Raumfeld Speaker or Connector can only be used for playback in the Raumfeld system if the device is configured as the Raumfeld Host (see Network in the online manual).

Please also note that for first-generation Speakers and Connectors, apart from USB sticks only USB 2.0 storage with its own power supply or USB sticks are supported. These constraints do not apply to second-generation devices, e.g. Connector 2.
Can I control the Raumfeld System from an iPod Touch or iPhone?
The Raumfeld Controller App turns your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into a full controller for your Raumfeld multi room audio system. It is available free in the app store.
What is the difference between active and passive speakers?
An active speaker contains the amplifiers for the pair of speakers. You can easily recognise it as it also holds the power connector and the Wi-Fi antenna. The passive speaker is connected to the active speaker via a speaker cable.
Is it possible to combine several pairs of speakers in larger rooms?
If you want to provide a particularly large room with music, you can easily set up several Teufel Streaming speakers in one room. The Room Configuration settings allow you to assign multiple devices to a single room so that you can easily control music selection and volume.

Which Spotify subscription plan do I need in order to stream music (on a single device or in a multiroom setup) from Spotify to my Raumfeld device?
In order to listen to Spotify with your Raumfeld speakers, you need to subscribe to Spotify Premium. Due to certain restricitons stipulated by the provider, the free account is not sufficient to stream with the system. You can learn more about Spotify Premium here
I activated my iPhone/iPad as a resource in Raumfeld. However, it frequently is displayed as being “offline” even though it’s logged in to the Wi-Fi. What causes this to happen?
This can occur when multiple mobile devices are used with Raumfeld at the same time. The iPhone/iPad goes offline after 10 minutes if not in use. This conserves the battery on the iPhone/iPad.

Solution: If the resources are offline, simply open the Teufel Reumfeld app on the device from which you would like to stream digital content.
Welches Netzwerk-Protokoll (SMB) muss ich einstellen, wenn Teufel Streaming auf Musik, gespeichert auf Netzlaufwerken oder in Ordnerfreigaben zugreifen soll?
With network protocol SMB1 Teufel Streaming recognises music files on network drives or folder sharing the best. Set the SMB1 protocol in the properties of your computer or /NAS to listen to music via Teufel Streaming.
How must I set the impedance selector switch of my receiver for Teufel speakers?
Here is more detailed information from the AUDIOVISION trade magazine (Issue 4/03) on the subject of impedance settings of the AV Receiver:

Actually, it should be quite simple: Connect the speaker cable to the amplifier and speakers with the correct polarity and you're done. Unfortunately, many manufacturers of home cinema receivers put stumbling blocks out for the users in the form of specifications on the rear of the device and/or in the operating instructions. These usually look like the following (translations): Minimum connection impedance six ohm! Or, speaker impedance six to eight ohm. And what is the problem? There are hardly any six ohm and only a few eight ohm speakers available in Germany. Most of the speakers sold in Germany have a nominal impedance of four ohm. So theoretically, you shouldn't connect them to most of the receivers and amplifiers.

To explain why it is possible after all, we would like to briefly explain the electrical engineering principles: The impedance of a speaker is nothing other than its electrical resistance which it puts up against the flow of current.

• Low resistance = high current
• High resistance = low current

Important to know for operation with an amplifier is that the impedance is not the same for all frequencies but can, for example, change between 50 and 200 hertz by 50 percent. So it isn't entirely correct to speak of impedance for a speaker per se, rather one must always consider the behaviour across the entire range between 20 and 20,000 hertz. To still achieve a reasonable connection value for amplifiers (which, by the way, says nothing about the output impedance of the amplifier itself but rather only which impedances may be connected to it), the creators of the DIN Standard have applied the following stratagem: Only the minimum value of the impedance in the audible range is decisive for the nominal impedance value. This is where the most current flows and the amplifier is subjected to the highest load. Speakers with eight ohm nominal impedance may only exhibit a minimum of 6.4 ohm, and those with four ohm nominal impedance 3.2 ohm. Six ohm are not defined in the DIN (which is applied internationally), but one could use the above values to interpolate that they may exhibit a minimum of 4.8 ohm.

From the definition it is apparent that the nominal impedance is only a rough benchmark, because it says nothing about how the entire course of the impedance looks. No matter whether it only reaches less than 6.4 ohm at one point and is otherwise beyond that, or if the impedance moves close to 3.2 ohm across the entire range, but does not drop below that. The last speaker is surely much more stressful for the amplifier, but has just a nominal impedance of four ohm as the other higher ohm one.

Conventional speakers usually exhibit one to two minima in the bass range, and there is one frequently in the treble range. These minimum values are usually not especially broadband. Aside from the minima, the impedance is usually far higher than the nominal impedance. The amplifiers are really stressed in the bass range because firstly, this is where the most energy is for music and especially the home cinema sound, and secondly, they have to let the most current flow through the impedance minima here.

And lastly, the main reason why many manufacturers don't want four ohm speakers to be connected: In extreme cases - for deep frequencies of consistently 3.2 ohm - the amplifiers in multichannel operation become very hot. A lot of current also means a lot of power loss and thus at lot of waste heat. However, much has to come together before that happens - namely high performance for a longer period of time and setting up the device without sufficient ventilation.

But this extreme case is seldom met in practice. As mentioned above, most of the speakers are not as critical by far, and it is extremely rare to listen to an exorbitant volume for a longer period of time. That is why it is not a problem from a technical point of view to connect speakers with four ohm nominal impedance to all modern home cinema amplifiers and receivers.

However, there is one small catch: The question of warranty. Should a defect occur to the device - which doesn't even have to do anything with the speakers - and the manufacturer notices that four ohm speakers were connected despite the specifications to the contrary, he could refuse repairs due to improper use. As discussions with manufacturers and distributors have shown, this is highly unlikely because they are also aware of the problems.

And for purely legal reasons, Lautsprecher Teufel may not give you a warranty either that your amplifier or receiver will tolerate four ohm speakers. We can only pass along one experience: For several years, the listening tests of the trade magazines are done exclusively with four ohm speakers, and not a single defect has occurred as yet even though the devices are driven to their limits. Also, the performance of each device is usually measured at four and eight ohm irrespective of the specifications of the manufacturers, and the load here is also considerable. It has been a long time since measurement laboratories have seen failures due to to low load impedance.

There are still some special cases, which should be briefly mentioned: Amplifiers/receivers with impedance switches give cautious natures the possibility to stay on the safe side under all possible conditions, even with the warranty. The four ohm setting of the corresponding switch reduces the supply voltage of the power amplifiers so much that excessive heat cannot occur even under unfavourable circumstances. However, the maximum power is then reduced somewhat.

During the listening tests of the trade magazine, these devices are always switched to the "eight ohm" setting to tease out the maximum performance reserves. A defect here has yet to occur. When choosing devices, take a close look because there are devices that only permit speakers with a minimum of six ohm despite the impedance selector switch, like the Pioneer VSX-D2011, for example. This is remarkable in another respect: It possesses a THXSelect license. This license is only issued if certain measured values are complied with that are determined at four ohm for at least the front and centre speakers.

If the THX laboratory had proceeded according to manufacturer's specifications, the VSX-D2011 would never have received a licence, as it would not have been permitted to perform the necessary measurements. By the way: this is also the case for other THX Select devices. But you needn't worry here: The THX logo not only offers additional security, but also a good lever should a manufacturer once refuse a warranty.

The AUDIOVISION TIP

Overheating is the main problem that can occur through the combination of four ohm speakers with power amplifiers that are not released for this.
Therefore, in case of doubt:

• Always set up the AV Receiver or amplifier in well ventilated places and never in a closed housing or close to the heater.

• Occasionally check the temperature of the device.

• Reroute the bass elements via set-up at the subwoofer, if possible.
Can I operate Teufel speakers with an amplifier with 6 ohm outputs?
Without problem!

The fact that some amplifier manufacturers give corresponding information is founded in the VDE standard. To comply with this standard, the devices may not become hotter than 40°C above room temperature so that no one is injured when touching the amplifier.

These 40°C are only reached in the threshold range, meaning for very great volumes for a longer period of time. There is no danger of overloading the amplifier during normal operation. The higher temperature that occurs when connecting 4 ohm speakers will not damage the device in any way. Therefore you can connect 4 ohm speakers without reservations.
I would like to connect the appliance to a record player, is that possible?
In principle, yes.

However, for a record player an additional phono preamplifier is required - these are available from specialist retailers for around €50.
What are the technical requirements for an AV receiver to function with RearStation 4?
The AV receiver must be able to send signals to the rear channels via a pair of cinch terminals. Generally these terminals will be identified as Side, Rear, or Left/Right. It is often also possible to "activate" channels on specific terminals by means of the AV receiver menu.
Can I also connect a 6.1 speaker system to a 7.1 AV Receiver?
No problem.

A 7.1 AV Receiver merely provides the possibility of utilising a 7.1 speaker system; it is not, however, a mandatory necessity.

That is why you can only use a 6.1 speaker system with the 7.1 AV Receiver. In the "Speaker Set-up" menu of the receiver, you frequently only need to specify which of the two channels will be addressed as rear centre.
Do I need the same cable length for all speakers?
In our experience, there is no acoustical difference for different cable lengths for lengths up to 15 metres.
No sound with high sample rates (Connector 2)
The Raumfeld Connector allows playback of music files with very high sample rates (up to 192 kBit). By connecting it to your stereo receiver you are able to enjoy high resoultion music files on your stereo set.

Unfortunately not all stereo receivers can process high sample rates on the optical input. If the Connector sends a signal with a higher sample rate than your stereo receiver is able to process it will not play the signal. Hence there is no sound.

In order to solve this problem the Connector offers the configuration option "Maximum sample rate on optical output". You will find it under Settings > Room Configuration > (Room name of Connector) > Connector.

This option allows you to set the maximum sample rate your stereo receiver is able to process. The Connector will then down-sample material with a higher sample rate to the denoted maximum sample rate.
I have a Connector connected to my system via a digital optical cable and sometimes experience drops in the music stream. What can I do to ensure even playback?
You can adjust the maximum sampling rate in the Connector’s configuration menu within the Raumfeld App. Try reducing this rate until your streams of music play without drops. If this does not help, activate the “fixed clock” option by checking the box. You’ll find the Connector’s configuration menu in the Raumfeld App under Settings>Room Configuration>Your Rooms(Select Connector) > Room Details(Select Connector again).
I have more than one Raumfeld device and would like to listen to Spotify in the multiroom mode. How does this work?
First check that you have a valid subscription for Spotify Premium. You will also need to have both the Raumfeld and Spotify apps installed on your smart device. Now, open the Raumfeld App and tap on the Spotify symbol under music services or on the home screen. Activate the multiroom mode for Spotify by sliding the switch to the “on” position. Once activated, you can select the rooms where you wish to stream music. These will appear in the Spotify App as Raumfeld Zones.
I want my Raumfeld speakers to use less energy when no stream is playing. Does Raumeld offer an automatic standby mode?
It’s possible to activate a standby mode with all Raumfeld speakers starting with generation 2. To activate this mode, go to the room settings in the app, then select the speaker you would like to configure and “automatically activate standby” from the dropdown menu. Here you will be able to activate “ON” or “Off.” The device’s energy usage in the standby mode will be even lower than the standards mandated by the EU.
Is it possible to reinstall the firmware of a Raumfeld device ("flashing")?
Should one of your Raumeld devices no longer react even after you've disconnected the power and restarted the device, you may reinstall the device's firmware and thereby reset it to factory defaults.

Please note that when reinstalling the firmware all device settings are lost.

Here you will find advice on reinstalling the firmware of the following devices:
Reinstalling the firmware in our online manual
Can I connect USB storage to the Raumfeld system?
Music that is stored on USB sticks or USB hard disks will be added to your Raumfeld music collection if the storage device is connected to the host of your Raumfeld system. In a system with a Raumfeld Base the Base is the host. In a system without a Raumfeld Base you may set the host device yourself under Settings > Network > Host Configuration.
USB storage devices that are connected to another Raumfeld device than the host can not be integrated as music resources. Please also note that apart from USB sticks, first-generation Speakers, Ones or Connectors support usb hard disks with their own power supply only. This constraint does not apply to second-generation devices, e.g. Connector 2.

Supported Formats
USB storage devices with the following formats are supported:
  • FAT16 / FAT32
  • NTFS
  • HFS / HFS +
  • EXT2 / EXT 3 / EXT 4
In a few cases problems with USB 1.0 storage has been reported. We therefore suggest to use USB 2.0.
Can I use my iTunes library with Raumfeld?
You may use your iTunes music and playlists in the Raumfeld system. There are several alternatives to do this:

All systems:

Sharing of the iTunes music and playlists on a network share

Your iTunes music and playlists remain on your computer and Raumfeld accesses the files via the network. Please note that they are only available if the computer is turned on.

Alternative methods for systems with a Raumfeld Base:

Copying of iTunes music and playlists onto the Raumfeld Base
Your iTunes music and playlists correspond to the status in iTunes at the time of copying onto the Raumfeld Base. However, you have the option to copy the data again at a later time in order to thereby update it.

Use of the Raumfeld Base as the iTunes Media folder location
Your music library is centrally stored on the Raumfeld Base and iTunes accesses it via the network. Provided that your computer is connected to the home network you will feel no difference to using your iTunes with a locally-stored media library. This method is therefore particularly suitable for desktop computers. Find out more: https://manual.teufel.de/en/online-manual-music-resources.html
Can I listen to the radio on my Raumfeld System?
Yes, via the online service "TuneIn".
Raumfeld offers an equalizer function but I can’t find it in the app. How can I access the equalizer?
The Raumfeld Equalizer has been given a different location within the app. You can now access the sound settings directly via the volume menu.
Does Raumfeld support gapless playback?
Since version 1.2 Raumfeld plays back music gaplessly. That means there is no audible pause between two titles what isn't included into the original recording.
What is special about Teufel Streaming (Raumfeld) compared other multi-room audio products?
Teufel Streaming offers outstanding sound quality. Thanks to roots in the professional audio sector, Teufel Streaming prioritises sound quality above all else. That becomes manifest in the whole audio processing chain - from the usage of high-class audio components to the point of the perfect adjustment of all components to each other.
Teufel Streaming is easy to use, thanks to the development by usability experts and constant consultation with users. Whatever function you want to use you will always reach your goal within a few steps.
Teufel Streaming is complete. Teufel Streaming is a complete multi-room audio system. Third party devices (speaker, data storage, computers) are not necessary in order to use Teufel Streaming.
Which music file formats are supported by Raumfeld?
Supported audio formats: MP3, WAV, Flac, Ogg Vorbis, ASF, WMA*, M4A containing AAC or Apple Lossless
Compatible playlist formats: WPL, M3U, PLS, iTunes playlists
Please note that there may be structural bottlenecks in the Wi-Fi transmission of lossless formats. If your music library consists mainly of very large FLAC, Apple Lossless or WAV files, we recommend connecting your Teufel Streaming host device via network cable or using the optional Raumfeld Expand.
*Currently only WMA files encoded with the regular WMA codec are supported. WMA Lossless, WMA Pro and WMA Voice are not supported.
Which speaker is on the left, which one on the right?
In order to allow you to position your speakers perfectly within your room, you can choose which of the two speakers you want to control with the left stereo signal, and which with the right. Find out more: https://manual.teufel.de/en/online-manual-setup-configuring-of-devices.html
How can I add album artwork to my music library?
There are different ways to add album artwork to your music library in order to see them on your Teufel Controller:
  • Embed the artwork within the music file
  • Save the artwork in the album's folder
Also, if your Teufel Streaming system is connected to the Internet, missing artwork will be added automatically (if they can be found on the online music service Last.fm).

Embedding the artwork in the music file

Most media players and special "tagging" applications can be used to embed album artwork in music files.

Saving the cover in the album's folder

If all tracks of an album are stored in their own folder you can simply move the artwork image file to that folder. The Teufel Streaming system will then associate the image file with the album.

Supported image formats, size and resolution

We recommend the usage of JPEG images (300x300 pixels, 72 dpi).

Of course, other image formats (PNG, GIF) and sizes are also supported.
How can I connect a CD or MP3 player?
Raumfeld playback devices come with an analogue audio input (cinch) for connecting your CD or MP3 player, iPhones, iPods etc. The input signal may be played back directly via the connected Raumfeld device, or you may stream the signal to other rooms.

Most MP3 players may additionally be connected to the Raumfeld Base via USB. Should your system not contain a Raumfeld Base you may connect the MP3 player via USB to your Speaker or Connector.

Please note: As the music library on iPods and iPhones is not directly accessible for third party manufacturers, iPods and iPhones can only be connected via their analogue audio output.
How can I delete imported playlists?
In order to delete imported playlists from the music database you have to delete the corresponding playlist file on the music resource:
  • Use your file management application to navigate to the folder that contains the playlists file (.wpl, .m3u, .pls oder iTunes Music Library.xml). It doesn't matter if it is stored on the Raumfeld Base, USB storage or a network share.
  • Delete the playlist file
If the playlist file was stored on your Raumfeld Base or an attached USB storage your music collection will be updated automatically within a few seconds. Hence, the playlist will no longer be displayed under Playlists > My Music.

If the playlist file was stored on a network share, you have to manually initiate a rescan of the network share in order to see the changes in Playlists > Imported. Find out more: https://manual.teufel.de/en/online-manual-scanning-of-music-resources.html.
How can I import my existing playlists into the Raumfeld system?
The following playlist formats are imported into the Raumfeld system and displayed under Playlists > Imported:
  • iTunes Playlists (iTunes Music Library.xml)
  • Windows Playlists (*.wpl)
  • M3U Playlists (*.m3u)
  • PLS Playlists (*.pls)
In order to import your existing playlists into the Raumfeld system, simply save the corresponding playlist files on a USB storage device, a shared folder or the Raumfeld Base (see also music resources).
How synchronous is the playback of multiple players?
When only Raumfeld devices are grouped in a music zone, they offer perfect synchronisation (less than 5-millisecond phase displacement).  This means that you can use multiple speakers in one room without hearing an echo or hall effect.

Third party UPnP/AV internet radios that are operated with Raumfeld may have less than perfect synchronisation. When positioned in different rooms, however, there is still no echo to be heard.
How do I tag my music collection? Which tagging formats are supported?
To get relevant title information such as the artist or album name of a title, the media server uses the metadata - or tags - of your music files. So in order to browse your music collection by artist, album, or genre, the music files must be tagged accordingly. You can find out more about how to do so at: https://manual.teufel.de/en/faq.html?produkt=1913#faq9
What is the maximum number of rooms that can be filled with sound?
This strongly depends on the Wi-Fi performance. If you have three or more speakers, you should connect the host to your router using an Ethernet cable.
One advantage of streaming with Chromecast is that you can continue to use your usual music app. How can I check if my apps already support Chromecast?
Chromecast built-in already supports 100+ apps, including many popular music services, and works with the Chrome browser. You’ll find an exact overview of all Cast-enabled apps here:

https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/chromecast/built-in/apps/

Tip: If you didn’t find your app on this list, you may want to contact the provider directly and ask when Chromecast will be integrated. In the meantime, you should have no trouble finding an alternative from the large selection of Chromecast-enabled apps.
Ich habe eine eigene Sammlung von Musik mit hoher Qualität und möchte diese über eine Chromecast unterstützende Musik-App abspielen. Wieso werden mir die Titel nicht anzeigt?
Chromecast built-in can stream CD-quality audio up to 48 kHz. If your collection has a higher sampling rate, you can stream it via the Teufel Raumfeld App.
I also want to use Chromecast's multi-room function and stream to multiple speakers at the same time. How can I do this?
Multi-room streaming is also possible with Chromecast. To do this, create a grouping of speakers within the free Google Home app which you will need to install on your smart device. You can name created groups on the app.

After you create and name your groups, they will appear alongside individual Cast-enabled speakers in your music app.

Google Home App (Play Store)

App Store iOS
I use the Spotify app to stream to my speakers. I don't see any or not all of my Chromecast speakers under "Available devices". What could be the reason?
In order to stream with Chromecast built-in, you’ll need the most recent version of the Spotify App. We recommend updating your app and trying again. Please note that you will also require a Spotify premium account in order to stream to your speakers.
I like watching YouTube videos. Can I now use Chromecast to wirelessly output the sound of YouTube videos while watching them?
The wireless transmission of audio content from YouTube is possible with the following:

1: A computer running on either the Windows 10/8.1/8/7 32 bit, Mac OS X 10.9 (or higher) or Linux operating systems.

2: A current version of the Chrome browser. You can download the most recent version here:
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/desktop/

3: The Chromecast built-in extension for the Chrome browser (if not already integrated)

4: A least one Teufel Streaming device with Chromecast built-in registered to the same Wi-Fi network as the computer using the Chrome browser

Begin a YouTube video. Select the “streaming” option from the “more” menu in the Chrome browser. This will call up a menu displaying all Teufel Streaming devices in the network that can play back the audio.

Restrictions:
  • The video displayed on your screen and audio from your speaker may not be in perfect sync.
  • It is not currently possible to directly cast audio from the YouTube app for iOS or Android.

Tip for Android users: You can stream audio from the YouTube app on Android devices using the Android mirroring function. To do so, simply complete the following steps:

Step 1: Install the “Google Home App” and open the menu on the left side.

Step 2: Tap on the option “Screen/Audio streaming” and select the Teufel Streaming device you wish to cast audio to. An active connection will be displayed in your smartphone’s status bar.

Unfortunately, this option is not currently available for smart devices operating on iOS systems.

Step 3: Switch back to the YouTube App and start a video as you normally would. The audio will play from the Teufel Streaming device you just selected.

Please note that the picture and audio may not be in perfect sync.
Ich verfüge über eine sehr große eigene Musiksammlung. Seit ich das Update mit Chromecast built-in durchgeführt habe, reagiert das System öfter nicht. Was kann ich dagegen unternehmen?
The processing of a large number of music files requires Teufel Streaming system resources. This is normal and comparable to a computer that has multiple programs running at the same time. For most music libraries, this does not pose a problem. For exceptionally large libraries, however, such as those in the terabyte range, the system might be strained to a point where normal streaming is compromised.

Solution: Restart all Teufel Streaming devices and deactivate Chromecast built-in.
Der Stream auf meine Teufel Streaming Geräte über Chromecast beginnt erst nach langer Wartezeit oder startet gar nicht. Woran kann das liegen?
There are many possible reasons why your music stream doesn’t start or only begins after a long delay. The following are the most common causes:

1) Chromecast built-in functionality can vary between providers. It’s therefore important to abide by the instructions given by the provider for using this technology. For instance, some request that users first cast and then start an audio stream while others recommend the reverse order of actions. If you are unsure whether you are casting correctly, please ask your app’s service team for assistance.

2) It can take around 20 seconds or even longer in some cases for a stream to be processed. Contact the provider of the music or audio service you use to learn more.
How can I tell if my Teufel Streaming/Raumfeld devices are compatible with Chromecast built-in?
Chromecast is supported by Teufel Streaming / Raumfeld devices which have a Raumfeld logo on the front panel and no external Wi-Fi antenna on the rear panel. Chromecast is also supported by the Raumfeld Soundbar / Sounddeck and the Teufel Sounddeck Streaming / Teufel Soundbar Streaming.
My subwoofer is humming. What can I do?
This hum can be caused by the connected devices or disruptions in your electricity current. Please do a test to see which it is.

1. Remove the RCA cable from the input on the subwoofer. If the hum is no longer heard, go to point B. Otherwise, follow point A.

A. Attach the net cable of the subwoofer to another electricity outlet (i.e. Kitchen/Bathroom/Bedroom). If the subwoofer still hums, get in contact with our Support team.

Should the hum no longer be there, the disruption was a problem in your power supply, which can, for instance, be caused by dimmers or chargers. To find out where the disruption is, unplug all your devices and work back from there. As soon as the hum is heard, you now know your source of the disruption.

B. In your case, the "ground hum" is responsible for the disruption. Please proceed as follows to discover your source.

  • Disconnect the cable or satellite port from the TV Receiver and check if the hum disappears or not. If it does, you can use a sheath current filter for the cable outlet to prevent this. For example, the sheath current filter AC 9022 ED. If you have a satellite connection, connect the Satellite Receiver to the optical cable playback source - Teufel Optical Digital Cable

  • If this reason can be excluded, separate all devices from the AV Receiver one at a time until the hum stops. The last connected device is then your hum source and should be separated from the others using a galvanic separation filter (found in a retail shop)

  • If this doesn't work, get in contact with us once again so that we can give an individual, helpful response.
Why is the Subwoofer CB 11 SW now called the T 6 Subwoofer?
This makes our subwoofer series easier to organize. There are now the T 6, T 8 and T 10 subwoofers. But don’t worry, only the name has changed, nothing else.
Will an active subwoofer only run in 5.1 mode or also in stereo mode?
Thanks to the speaker set-up/bass management integrated in the home cinema receivers/amplifiers, the subwoofer functions in stereo, Dolby Surround and digital mode.

The corresponding setting in the speaker set-up must be adjusted individually for each source for many receivers, however, e.g. for CD playback only front without woofer, and front speakers plus woofer for Dolby Surround video playback.
Why doesn't my active subwoofer switch on automatically?
Some AV Receivers/amplifiers issue the bass signals via the subwoofer pre-amplifier output so quietly that the subwoofer does not start automatically.

To make sure the subwoofer switches on and off correctly in automatic mode, (to be selected on the corresponding switch of the subwoofer, such as "Auto / On / Off"), we recommend turning the level control on the subwoofer to 1/3 or perhaps to 1/2 and increasing the output level for the sub in the receiver's speaker set-up – sometimes up to the maximum (+10 dB or +12 dB). The subwoofer should then work perfectly.

The maximum position of the output level in the speaker set-up of the AV Receiver is obligatory for some of our models (e.g. the Concept S subwoofer).
How do I connect my fully active Teufel system to an AV Receiver?
Although designed to be fully active, the Teufel set is also partially active in conjunction with an AV Receiver.

You can connect it like a standard speaker system: the five satellites via speaker cable to the corresponding speaker outputs front R/L, rear R/L and centre of the AV Receiver/amplifier and the subwoofer from the front R input via a mono-RCA cable to the Sub Out output on the A/V Receiver/amplifier.

Please note:
The auto on/standby switch only responds when the front R input is being used! The subwoofer also receives the full subwoofer signal via this channel.

If the AV Receiver/amplifier has preamplifier outputs for all channels (front R/L, rear R/L, centre and subwoofer), the Teufel set can also be connected via three RCA cable pairs to the subwoofer and the satellites via speaker cables to the subwoofer. However, we recommend using the first version.
What is a ground hum?
The hum (50 Hz) comes from the 220 volt supply network and is caused by current power flows through the protective conductor. These so-called "ground hums" is caused when you connect two devices that are already grounded on the protective conductor (subwoofer) or the antennae cable (AV Receiver) to the subwoofer cable.

Solution:
Separate the direct connection by a grounding filter for the antennae cable that is created for it - for instance, the Teufel modell sheath current filter AC 9022 ED. Alternatively, you can use a galvanic separation filter that is looped into the connection between the subwoofer and AV Receiver.

The hum disappears if the antennae cable is separated from the Receiver/Tuner/TV. First try the grounding filter, otherwise the galvanic separation filter.
Where is the optimal place for the subwoofer of my Lautsprecher Teufel Surround System in a 5.1/6.1/7.1 configuration?
The location of a subwoofer with a recommended cut-off frequency of under/equal to 120 Hz can be freely selected and does not affect the other speakers.

Placement within the straight line between both front satellites is ideal - but not precisely in the corner of the room because certain frequency components could be unpleasantly excessive when played back.
How do I determine the right phase setting of the subwoofer?
By setting the phase, you can affect the point at which the membrane of the subwoofer bass speaker moves to the front. This setting makes it possible to optimally adjust the subwoofer to the satellites.

The membranes of the satellites should move to the front at the same time as the membrane of the subwoofer bass speaker, because all speakers of the system must vibrate in phase for optimal playback. This means that (provided the connection has the correct polarity) all drivers must move in one direction when the three front speakers receive a pulse (towards the outside or towards the inside).

If the subwoofer is in line with the front speakers, its bass speaker should have the same direction of movement (phase) - the controller on the woofer is set to "0". If the subwoofer is not between the front speakers, but is to the side of or even behind the listening location, its phase length will not match that of the front speakers. That is why the phase of the subwoofer must be changed in such cases.

So much for the theory. In practice, this means: Listen to a loud piece of music with heavy basses and ask a second person to change the phase during playback. The correct setting of the phase switch depends on where the subwoofer is positioned in the room. The position where the bass playback (above all the upper bass range) sounds the fullest is the correct position. Have fun trying it out!
What is the use of the on/off automatic switch ("Auto On/Off") of the active subwoofer?
The On/Off switch is a power-saving standby switch. The switch must be set to "On" or "1" to activate the standby. The subwoofer is activated as soon as it receives a strong bass signal. After approx. ten to twenty minutes of no signal, or only after receiving a very weak signal, it automatically switches to the standby function.

Even though the LED is still illuminated, the subwoofer is in standby mode. This function can be easily checked by slowly increasing the volume at the receiver/amplifier. You will hear a quiet popping noise when the subwoofer activates itself as of a certain level.
What happens to the power amplifiers of the subwoofer if I don't connect the satellites?
As soon as the satellites are connected to the subwoofer and not to the AV Receiver/amplifier, the performance of the 6 or 8-channel power amplifier is distributed to the subwoofer and to the satellites.

If the satellites are not connected directly to the subwoofer but to the AV Receiver/amplifier via speaker cable instead, the subwoofer performance will increase somewhat; the power amplifiers for the satellites have no function. This enables the subwoofer and satellites to play even more dynamically than if the subwoofer still had to provide the satellites with performance.

The technical background: The subwoofer has a large transformer with a specific wattage. This performance is either distributed to the five satellites and the subwoofer, or you receive a higher performance only for the subwoofer.
How can I connect an additional active subwoofer?
If your receiver has only one subwoofer output ("Sub Out"), you only need a monocinch cable, which is then connected from the receiver to the "Sub In" of the subwoofer. With two subwoofer outputs, you can order a so-called Y-adapter from the Teufel accessories page, which has a cinch plug on one side and two cinch (RCA) sockets on the other. Connect the plug to the subwoofer "Pre Out" on the AV receiver/amplifier and connect the mono cinch cable to the two subwoofers.

If the cabling method is easier for you, then you can alternatively connect one subwoofer to the other. You will need two mono cinch cables - one to connect the subwoofer "Pre Out" on the AV receiver/amplifier to the left line-in input of the first subwoofer, and the other to connect the left line-out output of the first subwoofer to the left line-in input of the second subwoofer.
What's the deal with the so-called bass traps or bass absorbers?
These are usually cubic wood housings (same MDF material as the speakers) with a bass reflex opening that have no membranes and are tuned to a certain frequency (e.g. 40 Hz as for a subwoofer). The frequency to be co-ordinated can be changed by the length and diametre of the bass reflex channel. If, for example, a room has a room resonance frequency of 28.3 Hz and this frequency is also played back in addition by a speaker/subwoofer, the room will begin to resonate at this frequency. This particular frequency is played back amplified.

This can be imagined as droning or booming, which occurs during heavy bass movie scenes such as explosions or certain types of music (Jazz, pizzicato bass). The bass absorber is then tuned exactly to this frequency so that only the speakers/subwoofer play back this frequency. The resonance frequency from the room, which would amplify this frequency, is swallowed by the bass absorber.

If you would like to damp more than one frequency (a room usually has three different frequencies: ceilings and floors, front and back and left and right, and its multiple), you will have to set up three absorbers accordingly.
How is the wattage of a subwoofer with respect to the sine wave and pulse/music performance?
Mono subwoofer:

The wattage (e.g. "360 W") printed on the rear of the subwoofer near the mains plug designates the ability of the power amplifier "to pull" a maximum power rating in the specified range at the moment of switching on (those 360 watt stated as an example).

Consequently, the wattage must correspond to at least the sine wave output of the amplifier, as this sine wave output must be permanently available which the power pack must provide as well.

The pulse/music performance of the amplifier, on the other hand, can exceed the wattage, because the short pulses are buffered additionally by the capacitors in the power pack and are not achieved solely through the performance of the power pack.

Multi-channel subwoofer:

The wattage for a multi-channel subwoofer can also be below the sine wave output, as the specified sine wave output is not requested from every channel at the same time.

For a 5 x 100 watt sinus power amplifier, for example, each of the five channels is able to implement 100 watt sine. However, not all five channels at the same time! This is also unnecessary, as the same signal is never transmitted across all five channels at the same time, thus requesting the same high sine wave output per channel.

That is why the wattage may be, e.g. 300 watt, even if the sine wave output exhibits 5 x 100 watt (= 500 watt).
What are the volume switches for?
The sound of the speaker always depends on the room where it is located.

The volume of the active subwoofer can be controlled so that you can adapt the relationship between the active bass and treble / mid tones to suit the room.

Use your own senses to judge which settings sound best in your room. This switch is especially useful in stereo mode. On the other hand, multichannel amplifiers often have technologies that adjust the subwoofer volume - so when using a multichannel amplifier the controller should first be set at 0dB.
Which subwoofer cables does Teufel recommend?
What is room resonance frequency?
Room resonance frequency (other terms: room modes, standing waves, resonance frequency) is the frequency at which the vibrations of a voice, a musical instrument or a signal played back over the hi-fi/home cinema system is amplified unnaturally, because the vibrations build up between the walls as well as the floor and ceiling.

It is calculated of the sound velocity divided by 2 and divided by the room length [ 340 m/s: 2 : 6 m = 28.3 Hz (=1/s) ] or, more simply: 170 divided by the room dimension (length, width or height). The greatest distance between two parallel walls is taken as first standard value. For a room of 4 x 6 metres, this would be 6 metres. Strictly speaking, you would have to calculate the room resonance frequency for further parallel walls (for the 4 metres and for the ceiling height).

Overlaying resonances are also possible if the room dimensions are very close to each other. (2.8 metres high, 3 metres wide and 5.6 metres long). The resonance at 2.8 metres is repeated as multiple (times 2) at 5.6 metres length, the resonance of the 3 metres width is close to the resonance of 2.8 metres. It would resonate strongly here at 30 Hz, 56 Hz, 60 Hz and 120/112 Hz.

Phenomena of resonance frequencies:

• For example, a man with a deep voice speaks in a very small room (2 by 2 metres, 85 Hz). The voice appears to have more emphasis than in another room or out of doors. As soon as a woman speaks, the voice will sound just the same as in another room.

• The voice of a woman or that of a small child will cause glass to shatter. The voice strikes exactly the tone that corresponds to the resonant frequency of the glass. The glass resonates so strongly that it shatters (refer to the movie "The Tin Drum").

• A group of soldiers march across a bridge in cadence. The equal movement causes the bridge to vibrate so much that it collapses. That is why no one marches across bridges in cadence.
