Over two years of intense development went into the special flat membrane coax drivers used in the Definion 3. The result was Teufel's patented SCA (Sychronized Coaxial Acoustics) technology that operates as a near-perfect point sound source for reduced differences in propagation times between the mid and upper frequencies.
SCA technology fuses the tweeter and midrange driver into a single component ensuring that all frequencies reach the listener’s ear at the same time for playback so realistic, it resembles a live concert.
Experience the following benefits:
- All acoustic events are experienced as coming from individual sound sources for a highly realistic effect
- The even dispersion of sound means that everyone in the room share the same exceptional sound experience
- The flat membrane of the midrange driver is so constructed that it in no way impairs the functioning of the tweeter in front of it
- The coax driver unit propels the soundwaves outwards from the same place for a very even dispersion
- Since the frequencies do not interfere with each other, more precise playback is created
- A dedicated tweeter for the treble for a more natural ambience
Wok woofers are so named because they lack protective dust caps in their centers and so resemble stir fry pans. Carbon fibres give the wok woofer membranes in the Definion range a highly stable structure while keeping them very lightweight. The result is outstanding precision in the bass range. Each long-throw woofer is capable of producing high levels with minimal distortion.
The Definion series has a very linear frequency response. You won’t experience exaggerated bass or shrill highs. The signal is transduced into playback that represents exactly what the sound engineer mixed – without colouration or showy effects.
Natural playback across all genres of music and soundtracks with a focus on precision is the result.

"The Definion 3 quickly captivates listeners with a pleasantly warm foundational tone and holds them fast. The well-defined bass isn’t lacking power and, while relatively strongly represented, isn’t excessively pronounced. The loudspeaker is equally at home with an orchestra‘s well-defined upright bass as it is with funky slap bass a la Mark King. And instruments with strong transients like bass drums don’t need to fight against flatter sounds, but are able to separate themselves well.
A slight depression in the midbass range takes a bit of the thrust away from the sound; it does, however, ensure the good execution of the upper ranges. The tidy fundament is what gives the Definion its warm character. The midrange mostly plays in a linear fashion without drawing attention to itself. In this, the flat membrane does a good job and exhibits an impressively responsive character. Those who love piano and acoustic guitar will be as positively surprised as fans of heavy guitar riffs. The presence range and treble were also played back to our complete satisfaction. The Teufel doesn’t clamor for attention here, but rather successfully defends its claim to clarity and definition. Details were presented openly – each in its proper place.”

"Thanks to the identical coax tweeter/midrange driver, the Definion 3 makes a very good impression with an impressive 3-dimensionality and enthusiastic sound and thereby makes a place for itself in the successful Definion series. Teufel consistently adopted the coax driver technology from the flagship model and makes a good impression when it comes to the quality of construction and surprisingly few tradeoffs compared to its expensive sister model.”

"The lack of costly and exotic materials as well as complication crossovers did not in any way place Teufel’s Definion 3 at a disadvantage. The columns [...] sound very lively and well balanced. The 3-dimensionality is pronounced, the detail fidelity high making the listening experience very pleasant. So much image density and power is seldom found in this price class.”

"The new Portico album ‘Living Fields’ was scarcly on the turn table when astonishment filled the listening room. This might be because expectations tended towards spectacular bass playback and a lightly emphasized treble range for the sake of transparency. The Definion 3 allowed neither of which to be attributed to it. It plays with sensational neutrality from the very first moment and, with the title track, this meant brutally. With this performance, it doesn’t even remotely aim at the less discriminating, but clearly at serious music listeners.”
"[The] as-if-cast-from-a-single-mould playback should not be underemphasized as it is the precondition for being able to listen to music for a couple of hours without being completely exhausted afterwards. With the soundtrack to ‘Local Hero’ composed by Mark Knopfler, a solid impression of the sound was reinforced. In spite of its high degree of plasticity, the 'Wild Theme' positively sparkled. While all details from guitars and even electronic instruments were included, the Definion 3 didn’t lose track of the big picture – wonderful!”
“Due to the sum of its qualities, the Definion 3 clearly earned a i-fidelity.net ‘highlight’ distinction.”

"The combination of vigor, depth and precision in the Teufel Definion 3’s bass range can’t be taken for granted in even this already quite discriminating price segment.“
“In addition, the tonal balance of the three frequency bands – bass, middle and treble – is very well executed.”
"With unbelievably precise tact, ‘Inhaler’ is reproduced and experiences absolutely no problem with big level jumps (loud – soft – loud). Utterly sudden ‘electronic thunderstorms’ are created with immediate jaggedness and threatening aspect [...].“
"The overall very balanced tuning with which the slender columns perform - exquisitely, nimbly and accompanied by powerful bass that is never overbearing in spite of the considerable membrane surface area - makes every style of music, but especially soulful blues and rock, a lot of fun to listen to.
In principle, the Teufel Definion 3 is a very temperamental speaker that – together with a suitable amplifier – plays back all precision sounds thrillingly and with passion. Although a decent efficiency level and good-natured impedance response doesn’t present a fundamental problem with any amp, the speakers reveal their true greatness with more powerful models. There is nothing to fear from their size: Even rooms just under 20 square meters won’t be acoustically trampled to the ground. Thanks to a ‘downfire’ bass reflex vent (it breathes down, not to the back or front), the ‘Definion 3’ is also easy to place. A technologically sophisticated and tonally persuasive statement [...].“

"With the 'Imperial March‘ (from Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra), the Definion 3 made full use of the advantages afforded by its point source driver: It opened up the orchestral stage far to the back as well as the corners behind the speakers and differentiated the [parts of the] orchestra with a wonderfully fine resolution in all three room dimensions. The Teufel drivers developed in a pleasant manner yet without deviating from their transparency and relaxed character. The increased volume […] in the bass could be felt […]”
"The live recording sounded atmospheric and dense with voices rendered almost ghostly by multiple layers in the […] treble range. In the final jazzy passage of Jacque Loussier's ‘Little Fugue,’ the speaker could pride itself in being a most audiophile and precise speaker that appeals more to discriminating listeners than fun junkies.”
"It scores points with the typical virtues of a point source driver: Exceptional soundstage, precise delineation of sounds along with effortless transparency and a finely chiseled tonality.”
The Definion 3 was the winner in the category sound in a comparison test (absolute top class – 58 points)
The [...] workmanship is also completely solid with rounded corners and very little wasted space. [...]
[T]he Definion 3 knows how to please with an atmospheric, dense and very powerful soundstage that instantly transports the listener to a concert hall. [...]
[A] clear, clean and detailed but pleasant upper range unites with a lively dynamic and utterly involving overall experience. Individual instruments are wonderfully differentiated. [...]
The 3-dimensionality is yet another outstanding aspect [...]. In combination with the clean separation of the sound from the loudspeakers, a very dense and immersive atmosphere is produced which transports [...] listeners to the dancefloor of a club.
The excellent, harmonious and pleasant sound of the Definion family is also to be found in the “3.” Even the performance in terms of power and agility in the bass range is excellent [...].
With the Definion 3, [...] Teufel Audio integrated a worthy extension of their high-end stereo arsenal. Design and form remain untouched. [...] We have no complaints […] when it comes to the acoustic performance. In this respect, a pleasant and harmonious performance is writ large, which, together with excellent extensivity, dynamics and power lead to an outstanding overall result.”

For Theater 2 and larger systems, we recommend the Teufel cable with 4 mm² cross-section for the front/centre speakers, and the 2.5 mm² cable up to a length of 15 metres for the effect speakers.
Choose a higher cross-section for even greater lengths.
Fully active set do not necessarily need an AV Receiver. The five to seven satellite speakers here are supplied with power by the amplifiers which are installed in the subwoofer in addition to the subwoofer power amplifier. This saves you the costs of a receiver, but it is usually only possible to connect one source to our fully active subwoofer.
Exceptions here are the Concept E2, the Concept E Magnum Digital, the Motiv 5 Digital, the Concept F, the LT2+R and the Concept S+R.
Naturally you can also equip the fully active systems with an AV Receiver at a later point. The connection is then equal to the partially active sets.
Modern AV Receivers offer numerous options for compensating electronically for any compromises in the set up. Generally speaking, the following rule always applies: you can always use our recommendations as a basis for experimenting with what works best for you, acoustically and optically. Let your ears (and eyes) decide!
This circumstance would drive up the production and storage costs, which would result in a significantly more expensive sales price.
A paint shop in your vicinity will surely be able to repaint the speaker housing to your preferred colour without loss of warranty - after expiry of the eight-week right of return.
